The Kissena Early Season Day at the Velodrome (Track on road bikes)

280 comments · 2251 views
This is another annual Kissena Tradition.

We go out to our velodrome, and work on group riding skills and race scenarios. This is straight-line riding, pacelining, attacking, chasing, sprints, and leadouts. We do it early in the year so we can get some focused training polishing/mastering skills and drills that are hard to work on anyplace else. This is great practice for racing and another great opportunity to get to know your fellow Kissenas better.

I propose Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 9:30am. This is the week before Grant's Tomb.

This ride is for road bikes. Keep the track bikes at home.
35+ is at 8:05. It's a 45-minute race. Done at 8:50. You can be at Kissena before 10am.

QED
sounds cool.
i'm really looking forward to this

we did it a few years ago and it was a blast/very useful
we did it last year too. between riding to central, out to the velodrome, back over and around, almost rode a century. going to have to miss it this year with work, bummer.
I'm tentatively in - it's a long way to go, and will probably kill a good portion of the day for me, but I've heard nothing but good things about this tradition.
JP, 9:30 @ the velodrome? Who's heading over from the Prospect Park area?

We will gather a group that is riding from GAP. Probably look to leave around 8:30 like previous years.
Remember,it's next Saturday, not this.
people should be looking forward to this, next saturday. The last day before the first Open race of the season.
Gotta work, hoping to fit in Branchbrook earlier that morning though.
i'm excited about our velodrome outing

i'll leave branchbrook for another time - get some more reports about the quality of the gravel on teh course (i.e. let other people crash/sweep it away)

standing order on saturday: NO TICKETS!
Unless people are giving out tickets for being AWESOME...in which case I'll take three.
Riding to the velodrome with William is like being in a "Goofus and Gallant" cartoon from Highlights.

Never been quite so thankful that I have to work saturday afternoon.
Marc, Tito, William, other mid and upper manhattanites,

Meet at 59th and Fifth, on the southwest corner at 8:45? Ride en masse to the 'drome?
see you there

are we meeting up with our brooklyn/queens clubmates before we get to the velodrome?

also - this is an EXCELLENT opportunity to eat in Flushing CHinatown, so bring a chain if you can

i am definitely doing this

so i assume not

now that i think of it, the directions from mid-brooklyn and from manhattan are quite different

The Yipin restaurant on Union had paradigm-changing noodles. Couldn't find it last time I went through. Regardless, fast dumplings can be awesome.
this interactive map of chinese food in flushing (from the NY Times) is pretty awesome:

let's pick something (or a few places!) from here
I should be there, meeting the gang at GAP at 8:30. And Chinese afterwards sounds great - just not sure about locking up the race bike. Maybe they deliver to velodromes. Maybe we can order Japanese and have the delivery guy join us in a keirin race.
I'll see the manhattanities at 8:45. We roll at 8:50. Brooklynites, come from GAP at 8:30.

See y'all at the velodrome at 9:30.
i'll see the b'klyn crew tomorrow @ gap
don't leave GAP without me!
Does someone meeting at GAP know how to get to the velodrome? I certainly don't!
Okay, Im gonna be the Idiot who asks.... The "GAP"?
GAP= grand army plazza, the top or north end of prospect park
