Lol - let's, like, meet at The Gap! There's a sale on mock-turtlenecks!

Posted By: Nathaniel MillerDoes someone meeting at GAP know how to get to the velodrome? I certainly don't!
Not by memory, but supposedly the googles does

No idea how legit this is but I took Myrtle Ave last time to get out that way and it worked out.
Sorry to miss out on the fun...I somehow missed out on the location of the Manhattan meet-up and went to the wrong place.
knucklehead!

we were waiting right there!
today was a lot of fun, and i think very useful.

JP had us doing a lot of pacelining as a big group and then broke us up into two smaller groups for a long pursuit-style exercise.

after that, we rode in a line with JP 10 seconds up the track and everyone got a chance to bridge the gap. this exercise was really useful in that it gave people a chance to gauge their fitness, fine-tune their attacking technique and get a feel for the intensity required to bridge.

to cap it off, we did three man leadout drills, in which everyone got the chance to ride in every position.

very windy out there today!

it was nice meeting a few new faces and watching some people improve quite a bit during the course of the 2 hours.

afterwards, JP, Gideon and I got dumplings in Flushing Chinatown. I want to move there!

I got really useful advice from a longtime Connecticut crit racer, who told me, "Rule of thumb is that most people might be able to bridge a 10-15 second gap in a crit by themselves, but any more and they're going to need some help getting across."
Today was a good time. If you can, get out to these sessions, you will learn a lot in a short period of time.
Bummed that I missed it. Got home from work at 2am, and, knowing that I'd be working super-late again tonight and getting up early again, there was no way I was getting up at 8 this morning.
Lots of fun today bridging, attacking, leading, sprinting and pacelining @ the velodrome. Big thanks to JP, William & David Stokes for the great advice.

Now let's go out there and rip their legs off!
Yes. Thanks to JP, William, and Dave Stokes for the shepherding around the track today. Quite a worthwhile morning. I've attached one lousy cell phone photo of the festivities.
Whoops. Here's the shot....
It's time for this.

I want to do our annual early season road bike day on the Velodrome Saturday March 3.

Here's what I wrote last year:

This is another annual Kissena Tradition.

We go out to our velodrome, and work on group riding skills and race scenarios. This is straight-line riding, pacelining, attacking, chasing, sprints, and leadouts. We do it early in the year so we can get some focused training polishing/mastering skills and drills that are hard to work on anyplace else. This is great practice for racing and another great opportunity to get to know your fellow Kissenas better.

I'm thinking 10 or 10:30 for a start time. Early enough to have a day after, but late enough the some of the Branchbrook folks can do the double.
I cannot recommend this event enough. It's crazy fun and a great workout.
JP - 10:30 start time ?
Gives everyone trying to do the Branchbrook double header (with the exception of the 9am 1-2-3 race) just enough time to get over to the Velodrome.
jeff, you should come back and do it again. experienced hands will be a huge help. Great place to practice leadouts.
I've got to work on this day. Count me out.
What about Charlie's race?

What if we did the clinic the weekend before? I have missed the last couple of years but Jeff is right: crazy fun and killer workout.
I can't make it, either. My excuse: I'm getting married the day before.
woopwoop!

truly, the easiest way to swiss citizenship! (although i'm sure you'll still have to jump through some hoops)

<giant smile>

congrats
There's something about marriage on this thread. SHouldn't WDC move it to its own category.

It's cool and all, but with it's own thread we can insert the proper jocularity by tying going 99 to titanium or the lack thereof, hipsters and fixies, powermeters, muffintops, meals consumed when sweaty, and obscure movie references.

Nathaniel, she's making an honest man of you. Thought that would never happen. Are we talking about a beverage here, man?
WOOT!
Thanks, guys! I'm all for a beverage. Maybe we can combine that with an early-season happy hour.
we are long overdue for early season happy hour

as for you, JP, well . . . you can sit on it!
They knew it was love

Nathaniel

Congrats! I'm very happy for both you and Ana. Awesome.

I forgot about Charlies race at FBF. Sorry about that.

All the same, there are many, many FBF races for the year and the first, unless you're in great shape, is sure to be a brutal slog.

I love brutal slogs, but the velodrome day is more important. This is working on skills that are hard to work on other places in an environment that is excellent for learning and fun.

Besides, it's a week before Grant's Tomb. So people have a chance to directly work on skills they can use then. FBF is not hte place to work on those things.
Mark your calendars. Come on out.

Fun, speed, coordination, leadouts.
sadly, i wont make this - doing the branchbrook 9am race

if you can, do this - great practice and lots of fun
