SPEED TEAM (Time Trials)

Hey Folks,

Is anyone interested is doing a 4-man team time trial on June 15 in Stockton, NJ? @AndrewJohnson and I are most likely going. I think it would be fun to try something different.

Greetings,

To clarify, I’m interested (and possibly Rob too) in doing the individual TT on non TT bike category, and then doing the team TT. Team TT is awesome if you get the right rhythm going and everyone is in sync.

Andrew
What are the distances?
Looks like:

8:00AM Men Non TT Bike B (Cat 5) 10 miles.
8:00AM Men Non TT Bike A (Cat 1,2,3,4) 10 miles.

9:00AM Open Team TT 10 miles. (Team of 3 or 4, timed on the second rider.)

@RichFreeman I think you can last for 10 miles... well, maybe
If we did both it would be tight. Aka individual then Team. 20 miles total, but I'd be warmed up for the team TT. Lol
I've contacted the Race Director to see if doubling up will be feasible.
"Last year we had 2 teams do the team TT.  We sent those 6 guys off 1st and
that gave them enough time to ride back to the start at a leisurely pace.

FWIW .. they had a lot of fun and we gave the team a 6 pack of beer for
their efforts."
Beer? That should entice a few people in this club.

might want to consider a merge (hint)
^ Done!
If it wasn’t so far away I’d LOVE to do it. Back in Texas, TT was my jam in stage races. I’d finish in the pack on the road race and crit, but was always top 10 in the TT. It’s the only discipline I’m any good at.
I am in. Team and/or ITT sounds like a good time. I am limited to Merckx style however.
@RobertPeras and I have aero road frames but in a Team TT the fun is in the team aspect. The event states that the Team TT is comprised of a group of 3 to 4 riders, time taken on the second rider. I would be stoked if we could get one more to join in on the fun? P.S. I can offer to carpool if we can meet in a somewhat convenient location. I have room for 4 bikes on the roof and a roomy interior. Please note the non TT Bike segment means no Aero Bars, or extension disc or tri-spoke wheels etc...

There's no way you should do more than one TT in a day.  If you're not falling over at the end of your TT, you haven't gone hard enough.

my $0.02

That written, TTT's can be a blast.  Aero gear is worth a good bit, but a coordinated team can make up for much of that.
I don't like to comment on events I'm not doing..., but JP is right, more over a TTT is typically way harder, but arguably more satisfying, than an individual TT. I do recommend you all consider a practice run in PP, CP, or FBF.

FBF. Don't try that shit in a park with other people.
Thanks for all the advice guys. @AndrewJohnson and I spoke a bit about this and if there are only a couple other teams there, we make just do the team event for kicks. We still have plenty of time.
CRCA used to run a team time trial at FBF in June. Can't remember if it's open or not.
Has anyone ever done the Somerset Circuit Time Trial? I'm interested in racing it on May 18th in the non-tt bike category and wondering if anyone has had any experiences there (positive or negative).
I haven't done it, but I think I might give it a go if you're thinking of signing up!
I’m like 90% sure I’m going to sign up!
I just looked up the course and it looks like pretty fast and fun course- only a few turns where you'll need to hit the brakes and a couple of rollers/false flat sections
I raced Somerset with Vlad a few years back. It’s a fast and fun course. Can’t make it this year, but definitely has a good mix of power sections, rollers, and some winding sections leading to a bridge. Finishing mile is on a false flat
All signed up for Somerset- anyone want to join?

No back = no time trial for me. Good luck.
I forgot I signed up to do exam prep on saturdays, so I'm out unfortunately.
Race Report for Somerset Time Trial:

I've never done a TT, but i signed up for the non-tt bike category and figured why not give it a shot. I wasn't feeling great going into the race at all. My fiance's birthday party was the night before (poor scheduling on my part) so I was working on very little sleep, had a couple drinks the night before and could feel that despite pushing hard during my warm up my heart rate was spiking and the power just wasn't there. The start kinda threw me off a bit. I've seen it on TV hundreds of times, the coach/marshal/whoever holding your bike while you're clipped in, but it felt really unnatural to me so it took me a bit to clip in and I really didn't get set. Then when i was sent, the marshal wouldn't let go of my bike so despite me pushing the pedals, I wasn't really going anywhere. This cost me some time, which was frustrating, but once I was off and going, I quickly got up to speed and started really pushing hard.

About a minute or two in, I caught the rider in front of me and was feeling pretty good. I was as tucked on my drops as I could and was carry a good bit of speed (think I was averaging like 28-30mph for this section). Then I made the first turn and woah boy were the hills and rollers a bit more then I expected/saw when I had looked the course up previously. I pushed over these, caught another ride, but my HR was nearing max, so I tried to settle in on the flattish section. While I was settling in, another rider blew by me like I was standing still (I think this was the eventual winner), but I tried to just ride my race and keep pushing.

The last bit of the course are three risers into the finishing straight. By this point my tank was nearing empty, but I had just enough to put in a bit of a sprint to make it over the line. My goal was to finish the course in 25 minutes, and I came in at 27:20- a bit off from my goal, but there is plenty of places here and there that I know I could have saved a few seconds. Had I had a good night sleep and was fresh, not bobbled the beginning, paced myself going into the hills a bit better and taken better lines through the corners I think I could knock off a significant amount of time. All in all, would love to keep doing TTs, get a power meter and really drill down into some TT specific training.

(this is a picture of me absolutely scraping the bottom of my tank)

Thinking of doing the Eddy NJ State Time Trial Championships in NJ on July 13- anyone interested? (Not sure if the fact it’s a state championship affects the ability to register for out of staters- I know it’s doesn't for cat 5s)
News trickling in today...
