Not so hot but par for the course as far as how I've been riding theses this year. Dale and Patrick put in solid efforts, though nothing spectacular podium wise.

Bummer, sorry to hear. TTs are brutal. I am particularly terrible at them. When I'm "forced" to do them, I often get beat by Cat 4 women.

But good on you and Patrick and Dale for taking on this especially difficult challenge! Keep at it, you'll be ripping it up soon enough.

Okay, we didn't come home with a podiums, but I liked the course and am pleased with my effort. I ended up 4th in the Cat 4 group and 20th among the 58 racers who tackled the 40K TT. I did manage to break an hour with a time of 58:47 and have some fitness going into CX season. For me, that isn't too shabby for the State Champs. Dale, who only had a borrowed TT bike for a week was 30 seconds faster than I was but he was more disappointed with his result having hoped to be another 4 minutes faster. (results here)

Of course I would have liked a better result. I needed to be 33 seconds faster to be on the Cat 4 podium and 64 seconds faster to be Cat 4 state champ. Ironically had I raced the Master 45-49 field I would have been in 3rd. On road-results the 45+ group was supposed to be harder than the Cat 4 field. Go figure. 

The course was mostly rolling with the exception of a short climb that we had to go over at the start and then again at finish of the race. Aside from that climb the rest of the course consisted of an out and back loop that was mostly a false flat on the way out which meant it was really fast on the way back. Other highlights include the fact that we started on a start ramp and the volunteers and police were well organized. 

TTs demand a lot of equipment and I want to give props to Ian Ellis for lending me his disc and 75mm front wheel. On the way back I stopped at the Ommegang brewery for a bite and brew. I'll have to come back for the full tour and tastings. Too bad they don't hold a CX race there anymore.

Getting under the hour is a great achievement. TT hurts like hell the whole time, and concentrating and motivating yourself for an hour is no joke. 

The road results assumption was correct. You only had to go 1m faster to be champ in your category. You would have had to be 5 mins faster to beat Andreas and be 45-49 champ.

Which probably isn't achievable as Andreas is just a beast and rides his TT rig a couple of days a week all year round.

Also he (and of course Kyle) are both proponents of Powercranks. Andreas does 4-5 hour rides on them once a week. You should have kept yours   

Anyhow. Congratulations to you, Dale and Vlad who made the long journey all the way up there and represented Kissena. Way to go.

Despite the best efforts of Redbeard, Jules, Patrick, Ian, Ros, and even the Zipp rep, (Over the course of the last week Ilya and these guys wrangled up a Parlee TT, DI2 with Zipp Disc and deep dish for me to ride, and a extra slick Kissena speed suit and Catlike helmet for me,) I took a good ole fashion whooping in the 1,2,3s.  I think my expectations and my legs were in different places.  
Although my ego is a little bruised, it did give me some appreciation for how hard the fast guys were really going.  There is always next year...And now cross.  
It was great to see my old friend Kevin Bouchard Hall, who I hadn't seen in 13yrs, and who took second, loosing by only 3 secs.  
Nice job to Patrick and Vlad on a solid run on a tricky course.  

Dale, don't go telling those dudes you beat that you only had a TT bike for a week, and this was your first race on that set up. They will just want to kick you in the nuts.

Great work guys - and don't knock that 40km effort - it's no joke!

You know, I brought KCC shoe covers to GMSR, but I feel like I remember JP saying something about shoe covers not being more aero, unless they were a very specific type of cover. Which I'm sure these are not.

They also sell shin socks with a "trip-line", proven tech banned in speed skating and used (legally?) by the British London Olympics squad. Just this year the British 10 mile TT champ used socks on his winning ride.

Saturday I skipped the Castelli Cup to represent Kissena at the Somerset TT. This is one of the NJ cup series of TTs - but the first I have been able to get to. Also planning on going to Upper Freehold next weekend. 

This was a cool 10 mile circuit of a course. Beautiful but technical winding rural/suburban roads. A number of little climbs over narrow roads with several sharp corners that were hairy on a TT bike on wet roads. It had rained overnight but the sky was clear for the race. There were well over a 100 racers. 

I lined up in the Master's 45+ group. Wow, I had some serious competition. In the end Andreas Runggatscher from Finkraft crushed my field including teammate Roger Aspholm. The only guy to take the course faster than he did was Baris Aytan in the 123 field. I was happy to feel like I raced as hard as I could. maintained an even pace throughout and beat my race-results prediction. 

I was also happy to only get passed my the guy who started 30 seconds behind me. I passed a handful of racers but some were from different fields. I have some work to do to up my game. 

The NJ races have a nice vibe as a number of the racers contest the whole series. I think Vlad is gonna make it for next week's race which is near Six Flags. Would love to see other Kissenas coming out to rip it up!

Nice day out at NYS TT champs today. Vlad and I both took silver medals in our respective age categories; me in 45-49 and Vlad in 40-44. 

A hot day with some crosswinds. Mostly flat with some grinders. Amazing that an out and back 25 mile course had no real intersections to speak of. We are in Tioga Center NY which is just outside of Binghamton. The local cycle club has several 40k TT courses to choose from. What a differentcethan anywhere near NYC - even in LI where I live.
