I'll probably be on earlier but will let you know if its later.
We should do a “Meet Kissena” winter ride event on Zwift. We might pick up a few local riders that way.
Need help connecting my quarq power meter to Zwift. My computer not pick up the power meter.
Problem solved! Spoke with Ilya at RedBeard...I need an Ant + dongle. Ordered and will be here on Tuesday. Folks, I love the team at Redbeard. They make me feel like a pro and I have not won a race...yet 😬. Thanks team!
I’ve avoided getting back on the trainer but joined my first race with the Tour de Zwift today. While I promised myself I was just going to ride tempo, I found myself pushing harder and moving up groups.

It was way more fun than I expected. I’d like to complete the tour to get the nice jersey, but am torn between wanting to only ride endurance/tempo and not wanting to get dropped. #firstworldproblems
rode stage two today. 2,600+ riders.
FTP test day and my first time on the virtual Central Park look. It felt like the uncanny valley. Everything looked familiar...but strange. Also with the chaos of people riding/running backwards and crossing wheels all over the place, it felt like a scene from the old van dunk Spring Series when I lost some teeth and skin.  :#
nice little update to zwift today, that allows you to better pick which world you ride:

Loving the Alpe du Zwift course. Totally practicing "the look".
work hours didn't allow me to join the VEC rides today. But will jump online in about 10 mins at 6:30pm, for 40 virtual kilometers. Join me if you can.
jumping on these ride at 10am — C 2.5 in case anyone else wants to join in
Check out this event on Zwift!

Any lawyers out there care to opine about why Zwift's new terms of service include a class action wavier?
OK, this might be fun or completely frustrating but I'm looking forward to giving it a whirl:

best tweet!

Hey all- finally got a chance to set up my Kickr and I’m exploring the world of Zwift and I have a bunch of questions (most of which I think will he answered by just playing around).

Any and all help is much appreciated!

- it looks like all data has to be run through Zwift. Is this the case or is there a way to connect it to my element bolt?
- from the little I played around/general knowledge, I know the resistance changes based on whether you’re going up hill or down. Is there any special calibration for this/I didn’t see any indication of the grade?
- is there a way to get a heads up display of the profile of the route?
-for training purposes, is there a special route that’s best suited for good consistent training?
-on the cold winter days when no one wants to be outside do we have group Zwift rides (is that even a thing?)

I’m sure more will pop up but this will help me get up and running!
- not sure I understand the motivation for connecting to bolt, but Zwift let’s you upload your ride
- I did not calibrate but I almost never free ride
- imo, Zwift is best used as background to a structured workout. Either from training peaks or a program from Zwift itself. I usually use erg mode which makes it super easy to follow the workout
- there has been Zwift group rides talked about in the past, but it hasn’t been anything regular

hope this helps
Thanks @WilliamCheng, helped to clear a lot up!
In regards to real structured workouts, mess around with the workout builder or import stuff from trainingpeaks like Will said! This will remove all of the variables from the zwift world (climbs, descents, drafting, etc).

A workout I've been having a lot of "fun" with is doing 2x20ish up the big mountain (alp du zwift i think). If you're on the limit, the climb is like an hour long and pretty smooth gradient. It can be waaaay more fun than just doing 20 min intervals at a steady wattage.

1. All the data you need is in the game. That is, zwift is better than the the bolt.

2. The map in the top right of the screen has the gradient.

There's no special calibration, the game defaults to 50% resistance, this means that if the gradient in the game is 8% your trainer will simulate 4%, the avatar still deals with the 8% gradient, but this allows you easier gear selection. This can be changed under settings "Trainer Difficulty"

3. Again the map in the top right. You can click on it to change the zoom level.

There are also plenty of maps online that showcase most possible routes.

4. When in a workout, I believe the game defaults your trainer resistance to 3%, so the course wont matter much. If not on a workout, go find one of the many climbs, just like real life.

As some have mentioned, you can connect Training Peaks, or create your own workouts, or ride one of the workouts on the game.

5. Yes. We use to have a kissena ride that was scheduled, but it felt by the wayside. In any case, you can pick any zwift event, and just post here, and some of might join you.

For all of these companion app is super important and fun.

Also, worth note, Shane Miller's zwift tips are a super resource.

@eloy @RobertMullen thanks guys- super helpful. Now I just need to get away from my desk so I can start fiddling around and get my Zwift on!

Anyone ever suffered from TP workouts not appearing in Zwift successfully? Tried disconnecting / reconnecting the accounts a number of times without success...
Wanted to get a POV from Zwift users.  I’ve been doing my TP workouts using my elemnt + kickr in ERG mode.  Seems to be working fine, but wanted to see if there is any added benefits to doing these workouts through Zwift instead of just using an Elemnt to control the workout.  I get there are social aspects to Zwift, and it’s probably more entertaining than staring at a bike computer, but beyond that I’m wondering if there are training benefits that could justify paying a monthly subscription.  Thanks!
I'm a big fan of zwift for many reasons.

In the context of your question, the answer is yes, there will be some value, because not every ride you do inside will be a structured workout. Zwift is really great with workouts, so you'll be able to still do all your workouts, but where it shines for me is group riding, racing, and just riding around --- that is, for non structured ride/workouts.
Trainerroad FTW! Full structured only 😎 I watched good dinosaur while I did my Z2 today...
I unfortunately find myself doing a lot of indoor work during the week in the winter. I've used both zwift and TR and they both are great. Like eloy said, zwift is super interactive and can make indoor training (sort of) fun.

TR is strictly business, but it has a lot to offer for the price. Their calendar has totally replaced TP for me. You can find tons of structured and nearly custom training plans catered to your specific events. The plans are structured, but you can alter each workout to work for you. For example, there are + and - versions for every workout depending on how frisky you're feelin. The workout interface is super boring, by design.

SO i think if you have a plan already and like training peaks, Zwift can work super well. If you don't have a plan and want a better calendar feature and aren't concerned with being entertained, TR is awesome.
Development Tip #1
Overcoming the Pitfalls of Indoor Training

Happy New Year everyone! This is your Development Director...thought i'd start the year off with some helpful tips on how you can make the most of your indoor 'base-building' training.

Stack the odds of a successful winter/base indoor training in your favor by doing the following:
  • Sleep (Get good sleep)
  • Focus on whole foods (not foods that will hamper your performance, incorporate carb-centric meals before, during, after session)
  • Nail low volume plan before you move up
  • Cooling (run fans, open window night before, less humidity)
  • Entertainment (right kind for intensity, something you enjoy)
  • Eliminate obstacles to stop you from getting on the bike
  • Figure out how to properly use caffeine and other substances (legal ones) that you take in to increase performance
If you haven't done so already, I strongly recommend you head on over to Tim's KCC landing page and choose one of the available base plans: https://www.velociouscyclingadventures.com/kissena

If you need help choosing a plan do one of two things (or both):
  1. Reach out to me personally on slack
  2. Complete this survey https://forms.gle/i9mBY8mxZDr3pccL8

when zwift runs out of money, at least they'll be able to say: well, we had a lot of fun of spending it, haha
