Indoor Training, and Virtual Racing (ZWIFT)

It was a platform-wide issue. I bailed on that race and joined a later one. It had the same issue, different race organizers even. I also knew it wasn’t just me as everyone in both events were complaining.

The app had updated when I first opened it today... something got broken.
Woof, that's a bad bug. Zwift racing before race mode was... not great.
The lack of a leader board would have been fine if the course had been closed. Seeing all the other riders out on the road made it really hard to know what was going on. I could tell that I was in the main pack, but it was impossible to track breaks.

I'm hoping that this was just an anomaly and that things are back to normal for the race next week.
Hey Zwift Racing League is starting up again and they've made a pretty major change in identifying team members, details below, TL;DR right here:

  1. Sign up to race using the Kissena specific link
  2. Only 6 riders per team can cross the start line at a race or the team will be disqualified
  3. You will need a WTRL profile.

NEW TEAM IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM

Team Tags will NOT be used in SEASON 2

Season 2 will see the launch of TEAM-SPECIFIC-PER-EVENT racer sign-on links and no further use of Team Tags

When a rider clicks these links, they are taken through the WTRL website where you may be asked to login. The website will identify who you are (by your stored Zwift ID number in your WTRL profile) and what team you are in from data encoded in the link. Our race database then updates accordingly. You will then be forwarded on to the Companion App or Zwift.com event sign-on page automatically where all you have to do is select the correct pen.ALL ZRL riders will need a WTRL profile.
  • ANYONE clicking the link becomes associated with your teamThis cannot be undone
  • If the link is used, you are ASSOCIATED with your team. You only become PART of your team when you cross the start line. You can send 40 Kissena Cycling Club riders into the pen using that one team link - if more than 6 leave the pen on race-day - the team would be disqualified.
  • If a rider CHANGES teams, they will be required to click on the correct link for their new team which in turn updates the race database.
  • If you DO NOT do the above, you will NOT be identified as part of your new team.
  • Athlete Support Crew entering the pens must NOT leave RACE DESIGNATED PEN under any circumstances. If you do, you will be placed in the race with your team. The E pen is NOT a RACE DESIGNATED PEN
  • Any rider with an incorrect Zwift ID number stored with WTRL is advised to update this.
  • Team captains/managers can view who has clicked on a teams link using the TEAM MANAGEMENT page where they can see exactly who has signed up for each team.
Anyone attempting to bypass the WTRL links and attempting to join an with a zwift.com event link will not be associated with their team and will be immediately disqualified.

Everyone got that? Cool. Season 2, Race 1 starts tomorrow!

RACE 1 INFORMATION

First up is a Points Race on Zwift's Richmond UCI Reverse course. 34km with plenty of flat and some climbs

Season 2 is even bigger than Season 1 with some 400 more teams (800 new). Plenty of rule changes as well as changes to the way riders are identified in their team. Plenty of information on both our website and our vibrant Facebook page.
  • 1,841 team
  • 127 Divisions
  • 54 Zwift Events
  • 12 Leagues
  • 3 Regions
  • Approximately 10,000 riders every Tuesday
PLEASE NOTE - with new race rules and scoring in place, we will take some time to validate results BEFORE publishing. There is a big difference between test subject data and real race data.

As captain of Kissena Cycling Club please ensure you distribute the link below to your racers in the team. Your team should be at least 4 and no more than 6 riders for Community Divisions.
  • Racers must sign in to the designated pen in the specified event. Failure to do will result in no result or team points.
  • Team Managers and camera cars should sign in to the E pen

Yes! Not sure if I can make it too, but signed up. Will post up a call in regardless tomorrow before the race.

I also haven't been on the bike much recently because of work/family so this will be a rude wakeup call.

This is a tough course btw. Two sharp ~90-120sec climbs and one longer climb through the finish line. I did the TdZ on it yesterday and I think this was one of the first WTRL courses earlier in the "season".
FYI I set up a meeting through Google Meets, but feel free to run your own:

If I can wrap up work & dinner soon I'll at least be at the start line with you all.

@RichFreeman getting 6th!!!
Thanks, pleased to have made the break & having a DS to talk through the rest of the race!
"Go faster than everyone else! Great job! Do more of that!"

I finally got on the podium in an A race!

(BRT Wednesday Night Crit City Race)
Oh hellllll yeah!
that is Legit!
Saved myself some money and upgraded the pain cave a bit.
Fellow Wahoo Kickr Core users: does your flywheel ever get uncomfortably hot to the touch/have a slight burn-y smell?
Team Time Trial tonight! We need 4 riders to get points. I am truly not in any shape to contribute, but I'll be there to fill out the roster and take pulls when I can. Takers?

Remember, you have to click on the race reg link below (for the B race) to count towards Kissena's time/points.

RACE 2 INFORMATION
Its Team Time Trial time and this is a fast one! Taking its name from the French High Speed rail network, Route à Grande Vitesse (high speed road), this TTT is fast and furious! Blast through the picturesque, relaxing French countryside with your team mates and aim to bring your fourth rider home in the fastest possible time!

This is a Team Time Trial event and rules are very different to the usual racing you may be familiar with on Zwift. Below you will find both your teams Race Pass and your Start Delay.

IMPORTANT: when the banner drops your team must not leave the pen. Start a stopwatch and once your allotted start delay has elapsed, your team can race out of the pen. Teams are set to leave at 30 second (0.5 minute) intervals for the most part. Do not leave the pen early or your team will incur a time penalty.

As captain of Kissena Cycling Club please ensure you distribute ONLY the RACE PASS link below to the racers in your team. Your team should be at least 4 and no more than 6 riders for Community Divisions.
  • Racers must sign in to the designated pen in the specified event. Failure to do will result in no result or team points.

in!

Would love to see some other folks join! I know it is late in the evening, but these are a lot of fun and the closest to a big group ride we've got at the moment.
i'm up this one!

registered everywhere last season but haven't joined you all yet
In. One more for us to count!
Awesome, think that makes 4! Any other rider would be welcome, I'm not in great shape and in very real danger of getting dropped. So a 5th teammate would be nice insurance to have!
some quick questions: TT bikes? black and yellow kit? connect on google meet?
TT Bikes? - NO - you will NOT get a draft from your teammates so get on the most aero road bike you have in your stable

Black and yellow kit? - Anything will do, but we can do bumblebee look to look like a cohesive unit!

Google meet?  - Yes! https://meet.google.com/tzs-sutt-pdh

I'm literally wrapping up work now, getting a bite and will assuredly be as cold as a gravestone at the startline.
cool, thanks!
Good times riding the TTT - Today's crew was Robert, James, Richard and me. We hatched a quick plan to start off at around 400w on the flat opening and synced up relatively well considering some power drop issues (note: the trick here is that you just keep pedaling and Zwift will "catch you" back up when power sync comes back). Talking throughout the race with each other over Google Meets was really helpful in staying smooth and coordinated. Hills are always the trickiest because w/kg comes into play, but we stayed together and kept the smooth, consistent pace.

And all that smoothness came with results! While we weren't the fastest at 5th place we were a 4 rider squad beat out by teams with the max 6 riders and beat out teams with 5 and 6 riders. We came in 6 seconds slower than the 4th place team ahead of us and they had 2 extra riders!

These TTTs are really fun and looking forward to our next virtual race!

(Kissena is under Men's/Mixed AMERICAS E DIVISION B-4)

Week 3, this Tuesday-Tuesday-Tuesday...

I did *not* realize this, but teams need to be at least 4 riders and no more than 6 riders. This means that even though Rich reached the top 10 in week 1 he did not get points for the team!   :'(

It's not clear whether we need to start or finish with the 4 riders minimum, but if it would be great to get 4 riders confirmed for this week. So far we've got...
  1. Dave Y
  2. Rob M
  3. Rich F
  4. James R
