Is there a BASECAMP group training happening again this year? If so, I’d love the deets. That was fun last year. (Also. My ftp is slipping away day by day w nary a ride on the horizon for the next week.)
Currently in full indoor training mode as it seems a lot of us are. While we're waiting for it to get warmer outside I wanted to share some links to help pass the time:

Looks like another indoor type of weekend - Zwift group ride Saturday and/or Sunday?
I can try to join for a bit! this achilles injury is nasty but slowly improving. could do saturday morning.
Eric, would love for you to join, but sometimes you gotta listen to your body. Keep resting that achilles and see how you feel tomorrow morning.
As before, I've setup a zwift ride for this Sunday, come join, will be fun!

Sunday Jan 19th 9:30 am
KCC Chill Sunday Ride
Shisa Shakedown Route (53.5 km)

Nice route! https://zwiftinsider.com/route/shisa-shakedown/
Haha, ideally we will all get the route badge and a bunch of additional XP points!

Not the full free plan from last year, but the Tuesday and Thursday Zwift rides are free for anyone to join
Has anyone tried the zwift cog on their indoor trainer (vs a regular cassette)? Is there less wear on the chain? Or is it just more hassle, with the buttons vs shifters?
Haven't tried it but with respect to chain wear, it shouldn't be any better or worse than keeping your chain in the middle of the cassette and using ERG.
I just got the Victory jetblack with Zwift cog and shift buttons. I'm coming from a wheel-on dumb trainer without any variable resistance so basically coming from the Stone Age to the Italian renaissance.

Zwift cog is great so far, chain line is super straight and seems less noisy than shifting through the cogs. The lack of a definitive shift point is a bit weird - sort of like a traditional car transmission vs a CVT with smooth transitions. Not sure if I like or hate it but it is functional.

The Zwift shift button is super seamless to set up, pairs quickly and without any additional effort after initial setup. Placement options is where it is lacking - it's a fairly clunky flat disc and at least on drop bars with a towel or cover over the stem and bars the options are pretty limited. I ended up strapping it on the inner part of my right hood where old school ergo campy down shift button/levers sit. Surprisingly the rubber bands used as straps over the hoods aren't bothersome under my palm.

The most attractive part of the Zwift cog in theory for me is the ability to swap between several bikes with different drivetrains and speeds. The limitation is swapping between different quick release standards (130 vs 135mm) and thru axel bikes - you'll need to swap in/out different adapters, but it's all relatively simple to do at least on the Jetblack. No adapters for 120mm track bikes though and single speed chain standards don't play well with road bike cogs, but really should be riding rollers for fixed gear anyway.

Will see if I actually swap bikes often in the next year and if not may try using a cassette just for fun and to get the "clunk" feel back into shifts.

Re: Coming from a dumb trainer I was basically in ERG mode the entire time. Because there was no variable trainer resistance the gear ratios created the resistance which was excellent for steady power - gradients and power ups and drafting had no bearing on power, I just picked a gear and cadence. I sort of miss that simplicity, but the variable trainer resistance certainly makes Zwift more interesting.

planning on joining this zwift ride 8 am today B group — come ride if you want

We have a week of rain forecast here, so even though I baked some rest in, I still needed to borrow some rollers. Got on them in earnest today for the first time in like a decade. Noticed some things:
  1. Gravel wheels are loud as HELL
  2. I can't stand (yet?) so it's a lot harder on my taint than I remembered
  3. I guess it really is like riding a bicycle :) I was pleasantly surprised that I could still do it
  4. No idea what constitutes a good pictures or it didn't happen shot beyond a puddle of sweat or maybe an empty mini-can of coke
One more day indoor tomorrow and then I can get back on the road.

Fun fact: parts of New Zealand have triple the annual rainfall of the Amazon Rainforest.

In my annual subscription cull I ended my Zwift subscription, mostly because Training Peaks now offer their own for free if you have a TP subscription (which i kept).

It's not as slick as Zwift but I spend my indoor time watching shows/movies sports anyway so no biggie.

Just noticed they do allow you to upload your kit for use in the app and they provide a template. @PatrickGrehan is this something you have saved somewhere that you previously provided to Zwift, that you can share?

Cool, I'll try set one up for next Sunday, probably around 9am.

For those without an indoor trainer, there are some good sales on at the moment: https://us.zwift.com/collections/sale

Come join the indoor fun!
I'm in.
I'm in for this.
Sorry never got round to scheduling this. I’ve had a lingering cold for around 4 weeks and struggling to get back into it. That plus a crazy work schedule and no sleep 😑.
