Fellas, after 2 years of getting destroyed at this race I'm throwing in the towel. It's a great race, awesome comraderie and beautiful scenery but I also cannot justify $80 plus gas to get chewed up and spit out.

Okay, I've never done it. And I don't particularly want to. But something deep inside tells me its a race that needs to be done at some point. So I signed up.

you can't say you've raced in the Northeast without doing Battenkill at least once. It is like being a New Yorker and not having a rat story. You're not really a New Yorker unless you've got a rat story.

So I'm afraid I can't do battenkill. I will be going to france instead for an internship and racing over there when i can. is anyone looking to race as a cat4 that day? let me know.

is anyone planning on doing a pre-Battenkill course recon? I know they have an organized pre-ride in March. i'd be interested in trying to do that, or in setting up a Kissena ride....just need to carve out the family man "hall pass" in advance....

I don't know if it's worth the six hours of driving. Maybe others can weigh in.

We can probably do some replicating here with the dirt road that leads from Nyack to Haverstraw, the rail trail from Piermont to Nyack, the dirt paths in Tallman Mtn park, maybe some others.

I haven't been to Ringwood in a long time. Are the fire roads there smooth enough for road bikes with road tires?

It's a long ass trip out there. I always wished I'd been able to go; more for the landmarks than anything else. I'm terrible during a race for figuring out where I am re: the overall course.

Last year I (we) pre-rode the finishing 5-10km of the course 3 times, which is doable if you get there the day before.

Might be tough to get out there before hand for me but it's possible. Like the idea of replicating locally. BTW does anyone have accommodations yet? I wanted to start to look into places but didn't know if anyone had plans yet.

replicating locally would be good - it is, indeed, a long-ass trip up there. i rode some dirt paths in tallman last weekend with dan reiners and josh caesar - muddy hard pack for the most part. good for the off-road surface training, but not too many hills where we were.

as for race weekend accommodations, i will stay with my folks, who live just outside of Albany. it's about 90 minutes from there to Cambridge, so a 7 am wake-up call would put us in town about 2 hours before the 10:30 a.m. start time (for cat 4's). i will check with my parents to see if they are game to host a few of us.

i count 8 total Kissena folk registered for cat 4: jules, jorge, norm, ryan, patrick, jeff C., jeff W., david.

last year they made an effort to put teammates together, so if anyone registered and didn't include club affiliation, you will likely not be put into the same field. so, worth double-checking and then connecting with the organizers to make sure they have your club name before they start to sort the fields.
