I registered for the long one. It's limited to 75 participants, it sounds like a good number to keep enough distance.

I signed up too, looks fun.

I signed up for the Jersey Gravel. A friend from the NJ CX circuit (David Schwartz) runs it. Should be fun... and probably hard. Definitely hard. but fun

the long course? looks like the opened up more spots

I think they took spots from shorter courses to keep the overall number pdf participants the same

Oh man, I fell down the rabbit hole watching Ted King's videos and now super interested in gravel rides. Any local LI spots where I can test my skills/endurance?

I have been in search for such a thing for quite a while and I am yet to find one. I usually as far as exit 63 in Long Island where I ride Rocky Point. The single track connects with fire roads and you can ride for several hours. It is unfortunately hunting season and won't open til April. Southaven is my other secret gem where you can get sand roads, muddy trails and packed dirt for miles. It's not officially a biking park. I see a lot of runners but everybody seems to be okay with you riding there.

@David Yang Not sure how many real gravel rail trails or carriage roads you'll find on Long Island, although the ones that Jim, Mark and I found in Hither Hills were cool.

There may be some carriage roads that I am unaware of, but what I am familiar with are the single track trails that you can ridden with yourgravel or cross bike. CLIMB maintains a bunch of trails - many of which are very doable on cx bike. Remy mentioned Rocky Point which is flowy and has very few obstacles. You can ride it for 14 miles without ever covering the same section twice. 

Also good are Glacier Ridge (flowy - lots of ups and down), Cathedral Pines (lots of ups and down a little more technical), Edgewood (a mix of straight carriage trails and single track but sorta boring), and Stillwell woods (has some more technical sections). There are other trails in Bethpage State park which can connect to Stillwell.

Again these are fun but may differ from what you are imagining when thinking "gravel"

Also forgot to say the Shirly Chisholm state park is fun , at least 90 mins of gravel adventure , some hills and a with a little imagination you can dream your in Marin county

The sections in Hither Hills State Park were almost completely packed dirt and (sometimes loose) sand. There were a few other sandy sections around Camp Hero and the Lighthouse that were mostly ridable. The following week I went back to Hither Hills and found even more trails within that Park. It's worth the trip

I also liked the paths in Shadmoor SP. Not extensive but fun.

ha, we were chatting about this on sunday. When he got to the front, you could FEEL the announcers not wanting to talk about him. 

Myerson had a take on that too (he meant this as a criticism)   


Simmons had the flat, eventually he slid on one of the late corners finishing 40 something. He is 19, which doesn't excuse any behaviour, but hope it means he has potential to grow up. Will not be holding my breath.

It is an interesting mix, where I think the healthier brands market the lifestyle, rather than the performance, ironically in the past few years, Trek has been such a brand, oh well.

This tweet and the ensuing thread made me realize that it holds that Trek supplies many many police bicycles... Profits > Principles on all fronts.

Actually, Trek stopped selling bicycles to Police years ago.

You are correct, trek stopped selling the bikes in June 2020
