Gravel Grinders

A few more pics from D2R2:

45 min to start time it was raining. All the week prior and up until day before the weather apps were predicting rain during the day. I think we were resigned to that.

The day turned out clear, even sunny, though remained extremely humid. We reminded each other to eat and drink often, and I think we got it right with the help of 6 feed stations plus a couple of locals with water hoses.

So much fun riding with these boys.

Quite a bit of tarmac on the route (perhaps too much tarmac!) but both tarmac and gravel descents were long, winding, and fast. Gravel was grippy and perfect for speed because of the rain up to the night before. I ran open tubular Grifos with latex tubes on my CX bike and it was plush perfect. 11/32 x 36 was slightly aggressive but I was able to find tempo on all of the climbs.

Rode some KMs with Jeremy Powers.

We drove back that evening (thanks @RobertMullen!) to avoid the tropical storm weather.
Anybody interested in riding the 90 mile route at UnPaved in PA? https://www.unpavedpennsylvania.com/ It is on October 10, guessing that the usual suspects are going to be tied up at a cx race, but thought I'd check.  I have a car that can fit at least one additional bike.
Minnewaska gravel ride this Saturday - any interest?

It's very easy to get to from the Poughkeepsie train station.

Why should TBD have all the good gravel rides!
@James Reeder is this an "official" ride with registration, etc.?
no, i guess it's off topic. will post elsewhere.
No way man here is fine! Just checking to see if there is an official reg and if there is going to be a bunch of randos riding.

If it's just KCC I might be interested.
kcc gunks prestige ride™. randos not permitted.
Only caveat is that I'll need to start as early as I can get away with - hard to justify abandoning the fam for a big chunk of the day so starting off when they're still sleeping helps buy me a few more hours of riding time.
BIG SAME on timing!
Agreed. One option is the earliest 6:45 train from GC, which gets us there at 8:45. It's a $38.50 off peak round trip ticket.

Once in the park there is an $18 or 20 (cash) park use fee.

Obviously no bodegas in the park, but on the way through New Paltz there are plenty, plus a bike shop and cafes, all on the route.
Is it rideable on a road bike with - let's say, 25c - or do you need tire chonk with tread?

you need chonk/gravel tires. the surfaces range from some pavement on the way out, to flinty gravel to chunky granite stones and rocks
Assuming some work storm clouds pass, I'm in for the 6:45 option.
@James Reeder @SammuelAuld towed me along through a spectacular autumn day on gravel, up and down mountains, around waterfalls and across spectacular wooded vistas. It was truly the hotness and one of my favorite rides ever. Thanks homies.

the leaves even matched our kit!

Reg for Rooted Vermont on July 31 2022 opens tomorrow. It's a random selection registration process capped at 1000 total participants:

https://www.rootedvermont.com/registration

I'd be interested in the Sip of Sunshine (85mile) distance.
I'll throw my hat in the ring for that as well.
I am signing up for Rooted Vermont as an individual unless you tell me otherwise.

Ooh, just got in for Rasputitsa 2022 for 100k! Anyone else get moved from the waitlist?
sweet! really looking forward to Rasputitsa. I think when we signed up for it in 2020 it was to the 70k route. should be quite a few of us already in for 2022.
here's the list of who's registered for the 70k in 2022.

David if you are the only one at 100km YOU HAVE TO WIN!
LOL dang, I totally didn't realize you all were on the 70k list.

Well I guess I need to somehow win a race. Maybe I'll troll through the professional dopers thread to get some ideas. Or just buy an ebike.
@David Yang L-U-C-K-Y!
On the waitlist
Reg for D2R2 opens tomorrow morning (Dec 3, 5am). This was one of the highlights of 2021. I plan to sign up for the 180k again. https://www.bikereg.com/52978

I registered for Farmer's daughter. I am only deferring my last year entry.
