Geraint Thomas raises £325,000 for NHS after 36 hours on the home trainer

That is awesome on a lot of levels.

I think its shameful that NHS needs the money, however. The british gov’t has a Budget of 775 billion and can issue bonds.
Lack of proper funding for the past decade...
I don't doubt they're underfunded. I take issue with the idea that people should pass a hat to make up the shortfall.

*** in no way does that detract from the crotch-annihilating-madness of three twelve hour trainer sessions ***
Yes you are right, a ninety year old RAF vet did a marathon in his garden and raised £6m...
i had a little gap in my work schedule yesterday around lunch, so picked a zwift ride that turned out to be Geraint Thomas last two hours. All virtual but literally 3000 people, including Tom Piddock, Ben Swift, Luke Rowe, etc... and texting with all of them.

My schedule allowed for about an hour, ended riding the two hours, 70+ virtual kms

Was awesome, and kinda emotional, and moving in all the good ways.

Stay safe! Stay awesome!

Interesting, although I think it goes back much earlier than that.
New Jersey finally got around to putting up signs detailing the closings.  this is the Edgewater entry to River Road.

Movie Theaters also have details on their marquees showing the same.

that is, in the parlance of our age, “some bullshit”
All non-essential events with city permits cancelled in June. Keep riding that Zwift.

In a few weeks, Switzerland will start reopening in waves. First to reopen? Hair salons, barbershops, and gardening stores. Priorities, right? A few weeks later, schools, and then in June, the universities. Though we’ve apparently had a lot of infections, the hospitals haven’t been overwhelmed. This, despite people flaunting the rules and going more than 5 to a park, and being too close to each other. Honestly, I’m surprised it hasn’t been worse here. I imagine there will a few waves of openings and closures over the next year or two. I hope things are improving for you guys in NYC. I’ve had a few friends there come down hard with it. Hang in there, guys. Hopefully we can go for a true group ride together when this is all over. And more importantly, be with our older family again.
I feel like COIVID and Zwift threads are converging. Not sure where this one belongs

I just placed an order for the ChampSys face masks. They come in a sharp Kissena navy blue  ;)
Anybody interested in a Zoom hang out tomorrow evening? I can schedule one through my work account which has no time limit.

MN just closed schools for the rest of the school year. Somehow day drinking and zwift have been very good to my form. If this continues I may be ready for the pro tour in the fall...

Mask suggestions? Using the KCC gator, but a bit tight.
a shockingly well curated list of masks on GQ of all places.

I was looking on Etsy, and boy oh boy that is a lot of noise. I am not sure a crocheted mask with giant holes isn't just performative nonsense. if you can see through the holes, then it is not stopping anything as small as Covid.

That is peak Etsy.
I've been riding with a basic mask I bought on eBay, with a gator pulled over it to keep it in place, but the mask is not going to hold up long-term because of the flimsy build.
I bought a nice cotton mask on Etsy that has a pocket for a filter, and came with a yard of polypropylene that I can cut to size.  Seems like a good backup plan for when my only N95 finally disintegrates.  And anything washable, like a cotton mask, seems a good bet for cycling.
I've also purchased a couple of dental masks.  Many masks don't have a filter for breath going out, only for air coming in, so I figured the dental mask would work well in conjunction with another mask so I can help protect people on the outside of the mask as much as I can protect myself.
Respro sells masks for cycling.

When I landed on their site finally, they were sold out of everything.  But, I bought a similar (exact?) mask on eBay for 13 bucks, picture below, that's being shipped from Hong Kong.  They have velcro on the back, allowing you to adjust the fit and stay tight on your face, they're washable, and have replaceable filters.
Amazon comes in and out of stock with them as well, but the sellers seem suspect.  I'll report back once I've tried it out.

Our stove died and I had to supervise the installation of a new one while wearing an N95 (similar to below) After 30 minutes I was yearning to claw the thing off my face. I have a new level of respect for people who have to work (and communicated) for hours on end in them.

My one lesson from riding with my Tiger King mask is there is about 90 minutes of riding with a cotton mask before your breath turns the cotton mask into a total swamp. The liner is cotton t-shirt fabric and as we all know cotton holds onto moisture. That may be the big problem with all of these cotton masks, and maybe the Champsys masks will be better because they're not all cotton.

Maybe the lesson is to bring more than one mask and swap it when it gets too wet. Maybe I am just a very moist breather.

Jules, while you're picking up the pace on day drinking, you may also want to get yourself an air fryer and start making frites at least twice a week. for the farmers.

Way ahead of you bud; Lisa’s colleagues have been transporting hogs to various places for slaughter & processing - the farms are starting to euthanize them as new ones grow.
Maybe you also need a smokehouse.

mmmmn.  bacon.
