Anyone interested in riding from the BB at 8 tomorrow up to the GW bridge, or is everyone racing?
Dale,
While I don't think I have time to do the double (aka race than ride), perhaps others are interested.
Ryan and I doing 8:30@ GW. I'll be sitting in, just like how I race. Probably a chill ride.
i'm in for 8am bb
I'll be at BB at 8 a.m.
i think that the first priority should be for riding the traditional time on Sunday 8/11/13.  But as I can't get out, I'm wondering if people are riding over the bridge at noon or later.

Well, we set out to ride long and slow. We got the slow part in. The long? Not quite. A tad under 60.

Nice ride though. Me, Owens, Suttle, Jeff W., and Konrad who we picked up along the way.
Sunday?
^ yes. Though I may try for earlier, like a 7 BB start.
I'm going out tomorrow. HAMMERFEST 2000
630a bb, slow ride up to Alpine or Piermont. I've been off the bike this whole week and fatted out on the beach all day today.
@yang I might be in for the fat man cruise tomorrow
@Owens's "prepare for death" rides are my favorite. Always begin at GWB with a frenzy of texting about how his extravagant social schedule has prevented his arrival for the depart...
Ha ha yeah Owens hammerfest = 50% chance of late night cancellation
@yang I'll probably meet you for the fat man ride.
Sweet, see you cats in the AM.
I'll try for the fat man.
I would also like to take this opportunity to recall the feel-good buddy dramedy from the '80s in which a wily DA enlists the help of a resourceful private detective to solve tough cases.

Jake & the Fat Man

Is it just me or does Jake look a little bit like Brendan?

i am often compared to The Fat Man of Jake & fame.  here is a picture of me:  image

more on topic: does anyone want to head out over the GWB sometime today?  i'm sitting here surrounded by boxes, but i have now successfully moved to 181st st.  prime GWB-crossing location.  or central park?

i don't know where to ride my bike in this new neighborhood.  highly disconcerting.  i'll just do track stands in my living room?  all i know is that road bikes pass my apartment with astonishing frequency.  i have seen freds of unimaginable freditude
gorgeous ride out to piermont today.  although yang sold it as a fat-man's ride, it was at times somewhat faster than advertised.

and comment of the day, spoken by wes as we're walking into gypsy donut: "let's go get fat".
"fat": i was filled with admiration and respect to see someone who was probably pushing 300 lbs (not muscle) pedaling up the hill outside of my apartment yesterday.  this is a hill that is steep when walking.  eventually he was forced to dismount (there will likely be days when i do the same).  but to be that overweight, wear spandex in public, and attempt such a climb make my most ferocious efforts look well within my comfort zone.  got to start somewhere.  respect.
btw that was not a comment on using the word fat.  it just reminded me of mr. millionspokes the other day (normal wheels can't bear the load).  i'm sure i would've laughed when wes said that.  before proceeding to fattify myself.  a rich, belly-shaking laugh
Yeah, it was more of a "fast man's ride." Something about the personnel today just found us hammering a lot.

At one point Clifford spun up to the front and non-rhotically requested, "Can we just all agree to go slower?" Yeah. That lasted about two minutes.

I went to Gypsy with the boys, ate my Girl Scout cookie doughnut, and then bailed at the top of Alpine on the way home to do my repeats. Ran into Konrad who did a couple with me, but then got "too hungry," and went off for his doughnut. Saw Malcolmson going the opposite direction, then got caught from behind somehow by Stokes, and we rode it in together.

Gorgeous day to be on a bike.
I was keeping it nice and chill on the greenway until Whitey decided to cut ahead of us Chatty Kathys and started hammering it.  What was I to do but follow suit after he pulled off?  And that was it, the floodgates were opened.  Climbs were done out of saddles, state lines were contested, Yang was jettisoned off the back.

True to word though WHOLE milk was used in our coffees during our doughnut break at the shop.

Mad props to Whitey who went off to do repeats.  Clifford is climbing like a boss.  And Wes, even when slacking off, is still friggin strong.

They were all Jakes.  I was the fat man.

Go where they're all going: Across the bridge where lights are few and shade is provided by trees, not concrete and glass skyscrapers.
I am so happy to be done with out of town races (at least for a month) so I can once again enjoy some weekend group rides. I can practically smell the bacon maple bacon donuts with bacon and maple bacon from here. Macon baple.

@Owens - just an FYI . . . you're no longer the only one to drop the "Fat Boy Special" on the way home

Rode with Vollbach and my pal Peter Horn yesterday . . . Dave towed us at a revolting pace all the way from the Scout Camp (don't ask) to the sprint at the Exxon sign.  Multiple freds jumped on our 3 man train only to get farted off by the unstoppable momentum of Vollbach's meatball legs.

Reminded me of the good old times before you got gout.
I hope to get out tomorrow. May be a game time decision, kinda depends how much work I can get done today and how tired I am later.

But, my hope is to get out for a 4-5 hour ride.

Anyone who wants to kick my head in going up a hill, now's your chance...I've been doing almost nothing for 3 weeks!
I'm trying wrangle some child care so I can do a social group ride on Sunday.
I'm looking to get another fat/slow ride in this Sunday.
