Daniella,
Doubling up on the insanity. You're a trouper.
Ok. Leave without me.

Coming up west side bike path I see a woman on the ground in pain. Turns out it's Daniella and she's been left hooked by a runner who turned into her without looking.

Ambulance came. I'm waiting on BF to come get bike.

Maybe I'll see you in piermont!
Oh no!!! I hope she's OK.
Uuuugh. Hope it's not bad D!
Erased

Dag keep us updated.
Heading out for some very very casual laps at PP in about 30 mins. Doughnuts and/or pie after...

Hope you're Ok @Daniella That sucks. I had second thoughts about being in the city at all today with the Marathon going on.

Just fyi, the marathon is next weekend.
Ahhh. My Instagram feed was full of shots of some Central Park running event from a bunch of folks this AM, so I just assumed it was the Marathon :P

Yeah today was a 5-mile "marathon kickoff" in Central Park. I ran it. Did better than I expected, given the butt-kicking I was given on Saturday's ride.

That's horrible to hear about @Daniella. Sending out good thoughts & positive energy!
Did the runner stop?

Related, A year or so back, I nearly had a run in with a runner who did a quick u-turn at the New Jersey side of the GWB, just past the security booth, where you have to do a quick left/right combo to go towards NYC. So the runner was doing intervals or somesuch, but was running towards Jersey, did a u-turn, my vision blocked by the cable anchor block thingy, I nearly collided with this runner.

Which reinforced my already strong feelings that zipping over the bridge, racing, tempoing, TT-ing, whatever is dangerous and should never be done.

Anyone who has ever been with me at the end or beginning of a ride knows that I ride very slowly across the bridge. Now you know why.
I've had runners do this to me on the west side path. No warning - random milestone. I've been very nearly taken out more than once, and not because I was being inattentive or going super fast.

The offending runners are clueless and unapologetic.
Doesn't matter if you're going 12. It's all timing and you can get hurt even going 10. But I agree: I go very slow on the GWB and bike path. It's just more about courtesy than anything else. Your random person isn't used to riding/being buzzed as closely as a racer.

Yes, the runner stopped and was apologetic. I got her info. She said she looked. Uh, apparently not!

Anyway, I was rather disappointed with the Stan's No Tubes girl who was on the scene before me and was just gawking. I asked if anyone had called the ambulance? Uh, no. And then as soon as I started dialing 911 she took off. I guess her GWB meet up and intervals were more important.

Ok, self righteous rant over. I'm just saying she might be an actual witness, and regardless, you see a fellow cyclist (whether they are in a racer kit or not), or human for that matter, on the ground in pain, freakin take 1 minute and see if you can help.

99% certain Erica Tricarico (http://www.strava.com/athletes/166016) was the Stan's No Tubes woman in question in case a witness is needed.
hi all!!

My left wrist is stable now but in pieces. looks like they'll have to set it properly, surgically. i have to follow up with the doctor tomorrow. after its set, it will be the 6-8 week recovery.

the runner went down too. but luckily not injured. she was awesome. stayed to help me. i did tell her she has to look before turning because even if i was going super slow, my response time is so narrow.  claimed she did look. i didn't see her making that movement. anyhow, she  left her info with jeff, and now i have it,  so i'll check in on her. or sue her. any feedback or advice on that would be helpful.

thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you jeff!!!!! You were my savior. thanks for calling an ambulance and waiting with my bike until Kam arrived.
jeff today demonstrated the attitude of helpfulness I see runs strong among this team. happy to be associated with you.

my brain is a bit sluggish from pain killers so my wording is probably wonky...

i also have thoughts about riding on path. near misses for me too, except for today. i will now use a louder bell or horn and be diligent to call out that i'm passing (on left). in this incident she was running all the way to the right in at a nice pace and there were no reasons  she would suddenly turn off. there was no street or point of interest. i also usually try not to go too fast and am super careful and try not to ever assume people know im there, etc...

thank you all for all your wishes and notes of concern!!! it was so nice getting a stream of emails.
makes me feel awesome getting so much compassion.
Heal up fast @Daniella...  im sorry to hear about your accident.
Ugh! This makes me so angry and frustrated that I don't know what to say (I'm the guy with the ticket for 'not riding in the bike lane', which I got one week after crashing into an errant pedestrian). So I'll just day Ugh.

Ouch at @Erica. Sorry to hear.
