@Wump make a good point.
I would add to it that the things you want/need to learn can be broken down into manageable chunks that you can chip away at all year long.
I caught my share of heckling this year because of my slightly zaney antics but I've been working on things like
Skidding (on purpose)
Skidding (on purpose)
Jumping
Leaning
Cornering
Riding no-hands
Bumping
In short you can take these skills at your own pace and still improve on them; skills development doesn't have to be a white-knuckle affair.
