Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

Tomorrow, Sat Feb 6th, will be in Prospect Park 10 am GAP. Will ride around 90~120 minutes. Join me if you want.
I'll be at GAP at 10 as well.

So JP and I managed to get rolling around 1pm this afternoon. Me with my new Stages Power Meter installed to a torque-correct 40 lbs with new click-type torque wrench I got for Christmas, and JP with his shiny new 11-speed shifters and wheel.

We're talking like 30 degrees. A little more traffic than we would have liked (isn't there always?), and the combination of rooster tail and narrower roads due to snow build up. Kept things either single file with me out of harms way 3 bike-lengths back, or side by side.

We traveled out to Saddle River, NJ, but JP kept things interesting by throwing in a handful of new turns and roads. Conversational pace, with some harder pushes on a couple of the climbs, but in general a very civilized 52 or so miles in 3 hours. Just what the coach ordered, not too easy (no ride with JP is ever 'too easy' but also not too hard. If I kill myself on weekend rides, that effects what kind of effort I can do during the week.)

Somewhat bummed to miss what I'm sure will be a fun ride tomorrow, but I'll be singing along with The Ardvaarks at a children's concert with my wife and son. That will be fun too!

Pro tip: Bring a fender to keep your ass dry tomorrow.
I'll be there tomorrow.

Haven ave is really messy.  As is the Bridge.  I'm pretty certain it will be open tomorrow morning, but if not, I'm happy to meet the gang at the GWB and then head to Westchester.
Planning to be out as well, 8 am BB. 9 am GWB.

Looking for a bit over 3 hours, but could go longer.
I'll be out tmrw, GW @ 9

Craig, Jake, did y'all get out today (Saturday)? How was the ride?
i be there tomorrow GW9

I should be at bb at 8, assuming sleep doesn't win.
nice ride today.

Marc-
We did. And Craig killed me for 4:30 hours. We did notch up some Belgian hard-man points by riding through some decently heavy snow for a few hours.

Jake's being generous. He put in some early digs in the hills by Dominican College that had me gasping. I totaled about 5 hrs for the whole thing or about 75 miles.

I went solo Sunday for 4 hrs and would have liked to go longer but my feet kept going numb. Looking forward to March and some warmer weather!
Craig,
looking for you Sunday.  We did the same route as last week, but according to my numbers, we actually rode a good bit harder.  Maybe it was the warm weather.

For those keeping score at home, the crew was: Jeff C, Adam F, Sean M, Brendan, Patrick R, myself, and Eloy.  Eloy turned back at Palisades, NY, and the rest of us went over the hills, around Rockland Lake, and back.

And the ride kicks Kickr's ass.

Has it been the triangle ride or are you soloing it like Rocky B.?
BTW, here's a video of what  rotating paceline looks like from inside the paceline.

We should be doing this every group ride down 9W at this time of the year.

Esp if pace lining  like that means we discover a portal that transports us from 9W to the PCH and has the first(best) Queens of the Stone Age record soundtracking the ride

much envy

Next time I'm out on a group ride (not this weekend, but the weekend after next), I want to specifically work with folks in practicing the back of the pack surf. It's a great way to take a breather, without disrupting the flow of the group and after a missed turn or two, you are often ready to get back into the flow. I did it myself a few weeks ago when I was getting extra tired.

One thing I don't love about this video is that on the "drift back" side a few times you saw guys having to get out of the saddle to keep up with the guy in front of him. You want to keep it nice and tight forward and back, and if someone is getting out of the saddle to keep up on either sides, chances are someone's going a touch too hard.

But I'm nitpicking...that's a fine paceline.

Solo....getting too old to wake up early for a training ride....I prefer to sleep in, watch some tv, have a big breakfast...loiter...stall and then get going around 11:00 amimage

I'm most likely fully moved to eastern Queens by March so looking to tag along with you guys out in LI.  Need to get familiar with the training routes since heading out to GWB will be a bit more of a PITA...
How far east?

Bayside.  I think it is close to the triangle ride start?
Yes...u are in Triangle territory.  Little Neck Parkway exit off the Expressway.  When the ride turns North and they start hitting the hills...shit gets real and you will be a long way from the Shire Frodo

I for one am looking forward to Craig & Jacob aka the Twin Pins of Pain leaving a trail of broken dreams in their wake this spring.

Where is my popcorn?

welcome to Queens
Provided the roads are clear and it's 15F or warmer, I'll be out Sunday morning.  If the GWB is open, I'll be on the Jersey side by 9:05.  I closed, I can meet up at 178th and Haven and lead a ride to westchester.

I had a lovely three-hour spin out to Pearl River today.  Two of which were in the snow.  The trickiest part was the GWB, where there was snow on top of small sections of ice all the way across the path.
You're a tough cookie JP.
I'll be gettin cozy with my computrainer...but this guy might wanna ride with you

Today the wifey and dog and I did some XC skiing here in the Mad River Valley (close to the GMSR ITT course, fwiw) for 4 hours. It was cold, from 5-12 degrees, but we eventually warmed up enough to enjoy the experience.
