Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

I plan on parking near lake welsch on road towards gate hill road.

I made rice cakes tonight. Yum!
Fragmenters be damned. I'm up for the 8am GW to Bear per Sebastians route.
I'll be at the BB at 7, following Sebastians route and having zero shame if I don't go up Perkins.
woke up w a bad sore throat and a cough. sorry guys, I'm out. Have a great ride.
Running 10 late to gw
Bummed I felt crappy this morning and couldn't join. Felt decent enough to do a shortish ride mid morning. River rd is fully open again.
I woke up at 5:30 a.m. to a sphincter puckering thunderstorm and a terrified shih-tzu agitating for bed access. Thinking the ride was a no-go I ignored my alarm. Woke with a jolt at 6:55 to the sound of lots of birds, and ... no rain. Checked the phone, Brian texted saying he was going. Fuuuuuuuuu.

Kitted up, stuffed my pockets with random foods, keys, scrilla, phone, tore out of the apartment. No coffee, no breakfast, no flat kit, no thinky thinky. Hit BB at 7:15, which according to the (kinda judgy) texts on my phone was five minutes after the group rolled out.

14 West-side Strava segment PRs later, I finished off my first planned 20:00 interval and caught onto the group by Grant's Tomb. I announced my arrival with an interpretation of a wild turkey's death gobble. No wonder it was so hard to catch on -- Brian and Christina were riding at a more than honest clip. How have I not ridden with Christina before? She's fit.

Sucked wheel to the bridge, waited FOREVER for Malcolmson to finally show (late people suck), ate ... a protein bar? (I really should have chosen my food better.) And we rolled.

Since I did my first 20:00 interval catching the Brooklyn crew, I figured 9W would be a good road to do my second interval by towing the Bear riders to State Line at a nice clip. But well before we even got to 9W, John Late-People-Don't-Care-About-Anything Malcolmson ordered me to the front to work. A little earlier than I wanted, but whatever. My turn ended when the State Line sprint commenced (chutzpa points to the Bear crew for contesting such an early sprint, though they jumped very early).

The band finally broke up at Piermont where Brian, Ben, and I stopped for a quick piss and Gatorade refills. The way back home was a fog of Brian and me going back and forth on 9W doing many over-unders. Ben just went straight home. A pity, as he would have been a nice tug-boat through the block headwind riding back down Manhattan.
I'll be at GWB at 9
great ride yesterday, good seeing so many people. I had forgotten what is was like to ride in warm weather.

I invited a member of my fiance's running team (Greg) to ride with us yesterday. I think most of you met him. He's an experienced racer who just moved to the city from Rochester. I think we charmed him enough because he said he'd like to join. He impressively kept pace despite not having ridden since last year.

@BenFinoRadin if I message you his contact information do you think you can send him an invite?

NY/NJ State Line Sprint -> Kissena be dominating
A valiant effort but to be fair, we have not retaken the all-time KOM, which used to be held by a Kissena. Malcomson wrangled the effort together and gave a long monster lead-out and I threw a long-bomb sprint with Greg on my heels but we came up 2 seconds short. Next time, we just need a third man to light it up earlier so we hit that gas station with even more speed and a fresh lead-out man or two can take over.

And thus ends my local cycling club forum post about plans for re-taking a semi-popular (or semi-obscure?) strava segment... #GOALSAREIMPORTANT! #FRED
FYI - I'm leading a ride this Saturday for Redbeard leaving the shop at 8:30. You can check out Redbeard's Strava group for the details but it's geared towards active cyclists that want to get in a longer ride with a few climbs mixed in - pretty close to the average Kissena weekend ride. Depending on who shows up, it'll likely be strict endurance pace to keep everyone together with a few select climbs to get in hard efforts. Would be good to have one or two other Kissena's join if not racing Bear. Of course, weather could force a re-schedule but it's still on for now.
@Brian Miele Where are you leading to - 9W or other - and how long of a ride? I live across the street from RB so I may join.
brian, 9:30 GWB?
@EricSteffen IME the weekend ride is out-and-back to Piermont. Should be around 60 miles round trip from Redbeard, depending on the route.
@Brian Miele, I posted on Strava as well; but if it doesn't pour I'll be there no longer racing Bear cuz rain.
@Brendan Rigby - yes 8:30 Redbeard, 9:30 GWB

@EricSteffen - it'll end up being around 70 miles from Booklyn. All the details are on the Strava page. I'd copy here but can't right now. If anyone knows any non-Kissena people that want to get in a group ride, feel free to pass info along. I believe they should RSVP to Kasia or can do it via Strava.

@ChristinaWoolston - I'll keep checking the weather and coordinate with Kasia if we have to cancel the ride and post here / Strava thread, but we'll reschedule for another weekend if it comes down to that.

This is geared to be a ride for Redbeard customers who want a little bit more challenging of a group ride than their usual rides, but a good chance for a few Kissena's to show up in support. That said, it's also not a true Kissena weekend group ride per se. I'll be more picky than usual about making sure the pace is good for all on the ride.
Brian
i will show up , although forecast isn't great
I'm also a possibility but if the rain is supposed to start in the morning I may do an earlier ride.
i'll be there at gwb 930-for RBB ride. if ride is cancelled i will still do 930.  can do 9 if that's what others prefer.  wind and rain are good, i'm getting some new rain gear tonight at RBB and tomorrow's forecast is a perfect test ride!
