All...I missed this morning too, because, just in time for the holidays, the wife and I have been beating off cold symptoms for the last 3 or 4 days. Decided to stay indoors one more day, so I don't go to work 1/2 sick tomorrow and pick up something nasty in my ER travels. Gotta be healthy for family time later this week!
But, I do want to encourage folks not to ride in the cold when possible. A dry, sunny day, even if only in the 20s, I'll take any day over riding in the damp when it's in the 30s. Like they say in the summer, "it's not the heat, it's the humidity." Layers, good functioning zippers, an extra pair of gloves in case you sweat through your first pair. Ear covering at least, something to shield the face on descents (beards or gators for you girly men with buttery smooth skin), a hot bottle of water and you should be good to go on a day like today.
Thanks to JP and Josh and Patrick for being out there representing. For those of you new to the club, you can pretty much count on a Sunday group ride (at least) happening every week leaving the New Jersey side of the GWB around 9am through the winter. The colder it is, the less time folks wait. The route generally stays the same from week to week--although smaller groups allow for more improvising--and has plenty of turn around points for folks to customize their mileage and efforts for any given Sunday.
These rides are almost always open to all regardless of club affiliation and tend to be moderate in difficulty (meaning a cat 4 with fair fitness should be able to hang in there without too much trouble), punctuated with a few shorter hard efforts with regrouping after climbs and sprints and generally in the 2.5 hour range from bridge to bridge.
