Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

ok it looks like I'll be switching to the 10AM GWB ride. It looks like I will be up late, and this time of year sleep is just as important as riding.
Anyone showing up for the 8am ride will get a fresh "Alan Lim" rice cake. Sans EPO though. Key Foods was sold out.
I'm doing the 10 am ride.
Spoke too soon. Rice cakes will be on offer in Prospect, from 1-4pm. Gotta find me though. Orange kit, deranged squirrel-on-a-treadmill look... BYO-EPO
I am still going from the GWB at 9am. This last-minute change is not good for me.
I'm with JP on this one. I mean, I'm working, so I won't literally be there. But if you can, it would be nice if Kissenas made the "official" 9am Sunday ride. Winter rides are probably the best time to get to know your teammates, and if it splinters into guys going at different times, then you may never get to ride with certain guys. Because once racing starts up in just a few months, then you may never even see some of your teammates.

And for those of you who are newish to group riding, then you should know that JP is quite good to ride with, because he instinctively rides guys into the curb without even realizing he's doing it, which means you learn how to ride tight, close and smooth.

All that said, we're a chill club. So no biggy if you want to do your own thang on Sundays.

P.S.Traditionally, JP and I have done small group remix rides on Saturday, but stuck to the traditional group ride/route on Sundays in the winter.
I would also appreciate an agreed on time - mostly because I have to barter with the family for time.
Turns out my eldest was up all night barfing on me & everything I own so I was a wash anyway.
Next week!
From what I saw just after we climbed out of River Road there was a small peloton rolling by in the other direction on 9W, so hopefully the 9 AM Kissena ride was alive and well.

Just to be clear, I don't think anyone who left at 10 (me, Mike, Joe, Jeff O., and Jeff W. - and later we ran into Dave V) looked at it as a "time change" - Jeff, Joe and I had ridden hard the day before and when someone proposed the extra hour that sounded good. So for reasons most related to training needs, we elected not to do the Kissena ride and leave later.
I was not in any way trying to change the traditional ride time. 9AM @ GWB is alive and well and should stay. I will come to that as well.

That being said, for me to make it to the GWB by 9, I have to be up by 6:30 or 6:45 to have a proper bowel movement. So yeah, sometimes I like to sleep in an extra hour and not have to rush it.
WTMPI!
put the bowEl in the bowl!

Thanks Mr. Ragot! Fixed it.

@ Jules: Way to Much Poop Information?

Exactly. Just spent the last couple of hours face down in a tub of eyebleach...
The 9am ride was great. It was a classic mix of talents, which is what the Kissena Sunday ride is often about. Less experienced riders get a chance to learn from more experienced riders. We had JP, Reiners, Malcomson, Neil, Mehlenbeck, Nosson, Thierry, Joshua, myself. Most of us turned around at Piermont and worked on riding an efficient paceline coming home along 9W, which was obviously a learning experience for some. Despite the varied excuses, I was sorry to see a peleton of Kissenas steaming north at 11:00 am. Large controlled group rides in early Jan is what knits the club together. It requires patience from more experienced riders, but it is where most of us learned to ride. I think it is worth the effort to keep a regular ride at a predictable time. Plus, I doubt the later ride was home in time for the Giants game.
I had a lovely time riding with you guys this morning at 9AM, and thanks for all your patience!

Thierry
Wasn't able to make the morning ride this AM, as I initially wanted to. Stupid late work day Sat night. Ended up doing a solo ride late afternoon to Peirmont & back to BK. Saw the 10am Kissena group coming back on West Side Highway while I was coming uptown. Till next week.
I second David's comments about solidarity. But merely because I want to have a bigger posse than NY Velo... and a kind of a Hell's Angels type scenario where we swoop into Piermont revving our STI's, pillaging Cliff Bars and terrorizing the locals with the Kissena patch.

Also, yes, excellent idea Dan Reiners to run a paceline on the way back from Piermont. You can never have enough paceline.

P.S. Was it just me or was there some kind of lemming event happening with all the roadkill this weekend? There seemed to be an inordinate amount of squished and living too fast and furious squirrel.
...Also it rained toads.
i'm very excited to say that i will be in the city this weekend and up for rides both days

RYAN: can we get a thimble ride going on saturday?

sunday, i'm down for the tradish Kissena ride
sorry i missed you all on sunday morning. i blame the detroit lions (my hometown team) for making the playoffs for the first time since i could drink legally, and the bottle of small-batch bourbon that seemed to park itself in front of me at the bar until midnight as i sipped away the losing effort. oops. next time!
@William

I'm not sure if I'm ready for that kind of mad cap tomfoolery, but I am happy to show up at the bridge with that thing in my jersey pocket
Sunday 8am Brooklyn Bridge?
I have an as-yet-unused hall pass from the Mrs in my jersey pocket...
DINGDINGDING

it is official

after much skirting and ducking on his part, ryan is finally deigning to do another THIMBLE ride

saturday morning, time determined by His Delicacy, Mr. Johnston
Do we need to make sure our departure time is acceptable? ;-P I was trying to kill off the Kissena president and vice president in one swoop by having them isolated on the "alternate" Sunday ride and establish my self as supreme leader, rewriting the constitution in my name. Didn't happen. Yet...
you can't take control because as Treasurer, I will recruit my secretary and OPPOSE you! Kissena shall remain the oligarchy it is...

I'll have you know I won that thimble fair and square by pummeling an out-of-shape Joe up Alpine, Bradley, and every other incline that fine Saturday morning.

Now, I am the one out of shape and will most assuredly receive swift retribution from Joe and others.

That said: I want you to know, William, that after I hand off the thimble, you and me is gonna box.
$50 on WDC. Has the reach and fights dirty. Won't hesitate to go for the groin. I remember 2009, when I could climb...
Yeah, WDC loves the groin

I'll see you guys Sunday, this time not by accident! 9:00 at the GWB, no? Or are we sleepy Brooklynites going to cause another ruckus?
