I'm out.  Both for the roam (gotta be home by 1pm or so) and for the regular Sunday ride.

I broke my hand this morning.
Damn. At Mengoni race? Heal up quick

Oh no, sorry to hear JP.
Anyone up for 9am GWB tomorrow? Looks like it’ll be rain jacket and knee warmers weather, but maybe it’ll clear up a bit.

I was thinking about a non-bear century via JP suburbs route to Piermont, Bradley Tweed, and a few lake loops, but happy to do something more relaxed.

Edit: Good thing nobody came! Had a mechanical after Bradley Tweed, and my shifters need to be replaced. Luckily, I was close to Piermont.
I’m not racing this weekend. I’ll be at the GWB at 9am Sunday
Hi All- the Board is trying out a new program where each week a different Board member will lead a ride of their choosing (some may be spicy road rides, some will be technical trail rides, and others as mellow and relaxed as humanly possible).

To kick things off, this week I'll be leading a cafe ride up to Piermont after the race sunday morning. We'll hit the normal route through NJ on the way north and rumble back down 9W on the way home. Right now the forecast doesn't look great but I'll keep an eye on it as we get closer.

Meet at the BB at 8:10 and GWB at 9:10 (keep an eye on slack in case those who are racing end up running a few minutes late).
Hi all, I'm leading the group ride this coming Saturday, April 9th. The default will be a chill cafe ride up to Piermont (GWB at 9:10a), but all suggestions welcome!

Alternative ideas:
- Ride out to Kissena Park Velodrome and practice tactics on road bikes (if there are no official events happening)
- Cunningham Park on gravel and cross bikes
- Light gravel routes in Westchester accessible by road bikes

count me in!
In the spirit of keeping this simple and predictable, we'll do the default chill cafe ride up to Piermont. Have mercy on me, I'm slow.

GWB, this Saturday, Apr 9th, we roll at 9:10a heading north on 9W.

Slack if you're running late.
I am in if no rain. Currently it shows rain. Have mercy on me as well, I haven't been riding properly for months.
BTW @StephenAschkenes gave a heads up that the roads around NY Presbyterian Columbia Hospital and leading up to the GWB are all torn up. Fair warning if you're coming up the west side - maybe cut over to Broadway or St Nicholas ave around 158th or ride under the GWB and circle around from the north (you also get to climb the 20% grade near the tennis courts at Ft Washington Park)

I'm most likely heading over from QBB up St Nicholas and Broadway.

See you all at 9a at GWB!
Today's chill ride included:
  • Matt, James, Mark, Jeff C., Andrew and me
  • Andrew's rear mech exploding just before the GWB. Sadly he had to take the subway home. Happily it didn't happen in NJ.
  • Matt's rear tire exploding because he ran over some construction shrapnel 50 meters leaving the NJ side of GWB. Happily it happened earlier on and we were still dry, warm and in good spirits.
  • Then it started drizzling.
  • Strictly's wasn't open and didn't have a floor pump handy to top the tire off so he was riding on supple, skinwall Vittorias that looked precariously low, but was actually probably at optimal rolling resistance. This was his plan all along and is the reason why he won all the sprints. He can not be trusted.
  • Then it started hailing and it hurt.
  • We took the low roads (I think I have that right) and had a chill pace up to Piermont.
  • At Piermont at a port-a-potty break, a man walking by asked Mark how old he was. It was confusing.
  • Also there was a grimy animal carrier cage, with the door open. It was confusing
  • We hit Piermont, had some coffees and pastries.
  • James had the good legs and suggested we do Bradley/Tweed. We were prepared to, but I was determined to keep it chill. Chill cafe ride.
  • Reality had different plans as it started drizzling again as we climbed onto 9W.
  • We ran into David Stokes who was riding solo and rotated in with us for part of the way.
  • Then it started hailing again, a lot, for a long time and it hurt.
  • Then it turned into a downpour and we started hustling. We lost Stokes somewhere during this time.
  • Wheelsucker alert. Sketchiness emanated from his being and started taking weird pseudo pulls but not really in the rotation, overlapped wheels and finally attacked on the final sprint uphill and almost took out Jeff.
  • Over the GWB - finally! Safe! And now the wind is blowing hard and it's cold.
  • Jeff and Matt go ahead - Mark, James and I fight the cursed wind and I part ways with them at 72nd and head back over the QBB.
  • Good times were had.

Let's do it again!
Planning to do a Bear Mt. Classic recon ride in Harriman Park this weekend.

Sunday 17 April, leaving from BK 7am, either driving or train to Tarrytown.

Any interest?
L&C race this Sunday.

I'll most likely be volunteering for the race - KOM included. Depending on when I can bounce, I can hit the road and head up to Harriman as soon as the last KOM lap ends.
I'd love to do that Bear Mt recon, but I'm away this weekend and all my weekends leading up to the race are tied up. I'm thinking of siging up for the masters 55+, but a little wary of doing it without a recon ride...
OK will figure out a different day for a recon ride.
I’ll be at the GWB Saturday morning at 9am. Planning on heading to Clausland and/or Rockland Lake
I plan to do River Rd tomorrow post race. We can leave from wherever the coffee hang is. Just a chill easter cafe ride.
@James Reeder @David Yang  will join you guys and whoever else is going for a Sunday spin. Text me when you're heading for coffee?
Come on out Sunday!

I am leading a group ride from the GWB at 9am on Sunday the 24th. Heading towards Piermont (and possibly farther) via River Road. We will have the option for extra climbs for mountain goats, and flat roads for those wanting a more chill ride. Plan on meeting back up for the ride back.

The weather looks promising and it would be great to get a good sized group. This is a great time for newer riders to work on pack riding and paceline line skills. We will be stopping for coffee and and taking photos!

Post here or on Slack if you intend on joining
Tomorrow June 24
8am brooklyn bridge
9am GWB where we’ll meet Patrick
Can someone post how to get on the Kissena Slack workspace?
@Jeff Condon I just sent you an invite to your yahoo email address. Let me know if you have any problems

a couple of pics here from the sunday group ride:

Had a blast! Thanks for leading the ride Patrick, and thank you everyone for your patience as I tried (and mostly failed) to get into a pace-line rhythm.
fun times!

A great ride today that was not as "chill" as some would have liked. My "Magical Mystery Tour" promised something a little different. Essentially we skipped the low road for Alpine and and some other NJ roads.

Stephen, Tom, Adam, Mark, Jeff, Eloy, John, Rich, James and I started on River Road towards Alpine. John made the first strong effort up one of the river road climbs which got the group's competitive juices flowing. Overall, we generally stayed together with several hard efforts up climbs in which we regrouped. James set a torrid pace up the Alpine Climb which to his dismay I maintained to the ranger station.

After Alpine we headed back South and descended Closter Dock Road and rode through Harrington and Rivervale before heading back North on Old Tappan road. Lots of pretty homes and well paved roads but the lack of shoulder meant we were single file through a lot of this area. John and Jeff acted like locomotives - often pulling the group along into a headwind. Once we arrived in Sparkill we had the option to chill out at the bike shop or climb over Clausland mountain. Eloy kept saying he wanted a chill ride but was quick to head over Bradley/Tweed. Stephen showed off his fitness. Adam has lost weight and was flying up the climbs.  Rich is learning to manage that super steep descent off Tweed onto 9W like a pro. We regrouped at the Piermont Bike Shop where Mark was bursting at the seems not to tell us who won Liege. John's "Kiwi" Apple Pay money was not good enough for a coffee at the shop.

On the way out of Piermont, Rich told us he had no climbing legs at which point he rocketed up Rockland Road over Tallman just to mock us and our tired legs. We regrouped on 9W and ironed out the kinks in a rotating paceline. Tom (who is heading to California next month) said he had not ridden much lately but looked strong on the climbs and in the paceline.

John provided an awesome leadout for the gas station sprint and still had enough in the legs to motor and then sprint like a boss at the Hudson Terrace sprint before the bridge. Chapeau

Great to see a nice turnout. Let's do this more often now that the weather is improving

Thanks to Patrick for leading this. It was a nice switch-up.
