Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

haha yea, good ride! Jeff, I can give you back those aerobars whenever is convenient for u.
just back from the late a.m. ride --Konrad, Gideon, and I rode with Marc leading a somewhat familiar backroad tour coming up near Piermont. The pace was nice and easy. In fact, I wish I had brought my tweed kit and brooks saddle! Truly though, it was perfect spinning for me and I concentrated on high cadence throughout the ride. This workout was good for me, since I had some pugnacious leg soreness from my Thursday workout. But, that workout wasn't *that* hard, so maybe I haven't been eating enough raw Bison on my paleo diet to fully ignite protein synthesis. Anyhow, there near Piermont, Gideon and I departed company from Konrad and Marc since they were going up to Rockland Lake. I trust they had an enjoyable adventure up there and back. Meanwhile, I had a hard time keeping up with Gideon as he peppered the pace enough to put my little legs on the ropes. He looked comfy and later called that portion (coming back down 9w) a nice recovery ride. Gideon's definition of recovery ride must be only 3 or 4 notches below Stephane's definition of the same (Stephane's recovery ride = race tempo, except you have to talk a lot during the ride). Anyhow it was lovely day for a ride. I am pretty tired and happy to have a full jar of cashew butter focus on while doing a little post-ride stretching.

Thanks again Marc for leading. And to Gideon for pulling me along so admirably (sorry I couldn't trade those pulls very well... I owe you!).

Cheers,
Norm
p.s. just in case anyone's concerned that I'm not replenishing my carbs --don't worry-- I'll eat a hefty portion of sweet potatoes, some chocolate, and I just had one of these new Lara "UBER" bars... Bananas Foster flavor... pretty yummy and better texture than the poo-like standard Laras.
Yeah, we had a real crew today - Perlberg, Malcolmson, Whitey, Joe, JeffO, Aly, D. Stokes, Jules and lil' Tito (did I forget anyone?) Greg was like the Don Corleone of Piermont, posted up in the choice corner window spot in Bunbury when the rest of us rolled in. Keith joined us for the way back on 9W, sighing and shaking his head at our pathetic rotating paceline.

Some great climbs (thanks all for letting me take Alpine and Bradley - my ego has been gently and thoroughly massaged back to life).

Best part - cresting Bradley just as the sun was breaking through the clouds.
Nice work Tito... I believe I can speak for everyone when I say there wasn't much "letting" out there today—you were tearing it up.
I am getting cramps trying to stretch.
Awesome ride today - led early on by our two superheroes http://pic.twitter.com/Tdz4n50T Jeff & "Wrong Way"

Tito broke all our hearts at every uphill chance he had and Owens did a fine job of kvetching about his "massive" weight gain whilst leaving all of us gasping after his wheel on the same hills...

Between Titi shredding us and Owens mocking us with his pink barape from it was a thoroughly fun ride.

I think my final tally was something like 245 watts for 4.5 hours (normalized) and close to 3000 kj...

I'll be spinning gently with a harp or tambourine or something in the park tomorrow...
Yeah Tito, Joe was on cruise control, but you hammered good boy! I was "feeling it" on those two climbs. I don't think the Hudson guys knew what hit them.
For those of you who don't tend to ride the Brooklyn Bridge early in the morning, this is a nice shot.
sounds like fun --early morning crew. I would say that I'm sorry to have missed it, but I would have crying on those hills. I can feel the tears coming just thinking about trying to squish out that heavy wattage. Glad you fellas had such a nice day though...
I didn't get going as early as I wanted today and missed the 11am-GWB people (sorry guys), but surprisingly ran into Nathaniel on the way to Brooklyn Bridge a little later. Ended up doing a very nice Piermont ride with him & a few of his non-Kissena buddies. Still somehow clocked 70+ miles total when I got home. It was a crime not riding outside today. Such amazing weather (few & far in between lately).

Posted By: normanzoThis workout was good for me, since I had some pugnacious leg soreness from my Thursday workout.

I'm having muscle soreness after today's ride, which I find a little bizarre, since the cycling muscles ought to be rather accustomed to being used. I'm trying a heating pad, which feels nice.
David -- you must have done something different today... or, like me, it's a case of delayed onset muscle-soreness. In my case, I had dropped my training significantly due to work and an injury week before last. Thursday was my first pretty intense workout, so I guess my muscles quickly adjusted to the easy life and got upset when I pushed them hard Thursday. But I guess I'm a bit surprised too --I've been riding a lot this winter, slowly increasing volume and intensity, so I was surprised by the soreness today. Maybe I'll start another thread on recovery management.
@Ros. Sorry to have missed you. We actually left closer to 11:15, as I was super-tardy to my own ride. Yikes, sorry fellas. I had fun playing games on the hills like, "what is the least amount of watts required to get me up the hill without tipping over?" Of course when Konrad zoomed away without breathing hard (that dude can climb, some of you Cat 4s who travel to out of town races should grab a hold of this guys bleach-blond locks and take him with you), I had to up the amperage before he crossed into the next time zone.

Highlight of the ride was taking "the low road" through Rockland Lake area where there was the Knickerbocker Ice Festival going on and Konrad and I witnessed a swift breeze blow the head off a large, icey squid.

Briefly stopped at the Runcible Spoon for a cliff bar/bathroom break and got to ogle some pricey machines including Trek's Speed Concept TT machine complete with seat tube fairing that apparently required some clear packing tape. Also a Bento box on the top-tube. Because what's a $7000 bike without a Bento box?
Another glorious day for two wheels!
post to the forum or email any pictures you'd like to brag about to kissenacycling@gmail.com
I'm headed to PP for an hour or two. Be there in 20 minutes. Ride backwards or text me (917-817-1362) if you're interested in a social pace
Alyosha and I did a few soft laps in the waning hours of the day - met up with Norm "The Caveman" as well.

Oh, and we did see this guy before the ride...!
ZOMG

does alyosha have a walking cat?
No, he has a RIDING cat. He gets on the cat and RIDES around the park. And yeah, that furry little fucker can climb.
Tito, hope this helps dull the pain...

From Saturday :)
lol yes, its a cool cat!
ps: btw, i can't play the video, it says its private. how can i watch it?
Whoops! I needed to make the link public. It's fixed now. Be sure to turn the sound up!
Nice camera work by Jules "Right Stuff" Roazen.
OMG Jules that is awesome. Who cares about some stolen bike parts when you have LIFT OFF??!???!?

Thanks for that.

p.s. Love Owens' wave-off in slo-mo...it's like just shy of the classic "wanking" gesture.
@Tito: glad it cheered you up...

I love that Jeff's wave happens at exactly the right countdown time - would love to take credit for it but it was pure coincidence...

PS if anyone knows of an app that I can do less (slower) than 50% slowmo pls let me know. I did this in iMovie
Great ride on Sunday with Harry B, Theirry, Ben Reid, David Stokes, JP, David V and myself. Chilly start, JP turned around early since he wasn't feeling 100%. Good steady riding by a great group of guys. Split going out of Piermont, and glad I went with the short group, since the headwind all the way back down really took it's toll.

Even if you're not up for Kieth's Superbowl Slugfest MMXII come out on Sunday and meet us at 9AM at GWB for a Kissena ride. There will be folks going for EPIC (Trademark pending Rapha LTD UK), and folks going for something a little less leg breaking.
Sounds great, wish I could have been there. My legs were in tatters after Tito put the hurt on me. About 90 minutes in Prospect was all I could manage.
In case someone is not paying attention, there will be a group ride on Sunday. See the Annual Superbowl Ride thread for all the dirt. But basically, you can meet 8am BB or 9am GWB. See you there.
What Dan said come everyone and start together...

...because Sunday's group ride will have a wide variety of turn-around points. We'll probably all take the same route to Sparkill/Piermont, then split up. The second split could be after a back-side ascent of Clausland Mtn. The third split could be at or around Rockland Lake. Fourth split could happen at the Apple Orchard. After that, you are pretty much all-in for the full monty. Although Mattie showed me and few guys some cool roads that could be another split point before Bear Mountain. I don't know the route well enough to describe it, but depending on how I feel, the "Mattie Northern Extension" may be my ride choice for the day.
Im up for this epic ride sounds like fun!!!
"Mattie Northen Extension" I love it... i might have to join you on that!
