Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

(Or we can Zwift it and not ride in 20deg temps and salty roads)
I guess.

I figure I've got more time on weekends, and riding Zwift M-F is enough.  NIce to have a break.  And I find that since it takes much longer to dress for the coldest days, I need to ride long to justify the dressing time.
Chilly morning out there.

I didn't see any fitness riders on the GWB either way.  I did see a few people heading out on Riverside Drive as I was heading back.

Should be a bit warmer tomorrow.
Today was much warmer (feeling) than yesterday.

Still, no one showed.

I got to Englewood Cliffs, felt empty, tooled around a bit and went home.  A bath and two naps later, I'm starting to feel a bit more rested.
Could get myself outdoors for Sunday ride.

I’m down for an early GWB on Saturday.  Need to be back in Hastings by 12pm which works out well for the rain. Lmk if an early meet up.
Sunday 9am, I expect to be at the GWB.

for those who are worried about rain, I get it.  At the same time, if you're going to have race or ride goals, it's good to train for terrible weather, just  in case your "A" event is hit with bad weather.  It's not so much to go out to Nyack on a cold, rainy, winter weekend day, but to get out in it.  Especially for those who live near and near-ish to Central or Prospect parks, resolve to ride in the crappy weather in the parks for as long as you can stand it to get more familiar with dealing with the elements. A 20-30 minute ride home from the parks when you're cold and waterlogged is much easier than riding back from Nyack when you're cold and waterlogged.
Still trying to figure out family schedules for the weekend but more than likely I'll be out on Sunday for what I hope to be long steady winter miles.
Going to be at the GWB tomorrow (Saturday)  at 9am for an easy ride to Nyack
I'll dust off the cobwebs & join tomorrow.
Well. Best laid plans often go awry!  Just woke up. I’ll plan on tomorrow at GWB 9am.  Will just target some miles on the Westchester side of the Hudson. Ciao.
Sunday 1/11 - GWB/NJ 9a, riding the z2 chillness to Nyack. Low roads, JP wormhole, river road, 9W, it's all good to me.
Good ride with Dave Yang, Ryan Collins, (and Marc Bertucco)

Mostly chill, with a few hard efforts up steeper hills, otherwise, mostly conversational pace

Colder than I expected, with the occasional sunny skies warming things up. Glad I brought the winter jacket (even though fishing food out of the stiff fabric pockets with winter gloves are my least favorite thing).

It was a reunion of CAAD10s: JP, Bertucco and I all had our circa 2010's frames out. Next to Ryan's sweet Fairlight with 32s (I think), our 25mm tires looked downright emaciated. It's been a while since my last outdoor ride on the CAAD10 and I was reminded just how fast and capable the bike is, carving through corners even on skinny rubber. It was a good shakeout ride on the barely serviced in 2 years shifters as the front derailleur simultaneously dropped and rubbed the chain. That's 2008 SRAM technology for you. Looks like the bike needs a tune up before LA.

Random things to note: Some road rager's started honking at another car, making us think it was for us (it wasn't). I sprinted mostly uncontested for low roads state line and Hudson Terrace (Bertucco made a half hearted effort). There were a lot of groups out which was nice to see (JP is like the mayor, getting shoutouts from riders on the other side of the road).

No coffee stop today, just a water top off in Nyack and we kepted rolling nicely. JP and Marc needed to recover from their hammer rides yesterday. Ryan looked like he could grind out some major watts despite his modesty. Lucky me, I've got negative fitness so the slower pace was a-ok by me. After JP took a forever pull and flicked his elbow, I went to the front next to Ryan and we put in a bit of an effort down 9W, and that was about all I had left in the tank.

Roads were still damp, kicking up grossness onto the bike. My outdoor hose is turned off for the winter so I brought out my CX bucket filled with warm water, brushes and car wash soap and cleaned the bike outside before taking it inside the shower for a rinse with clean water.

No photos, too much suffering, hanging off the back.

Power meter: Kaput. Need to replace the battery.

HRM: Fresh battery. I was mostly in z3 and 4 today. Looks like my fitness needs a tune up before LA.
Sorry I missed the start of group glory by 20 minutes. Last minute dead shifter battery tire troubles kept me from joining. : (
Nice little group on Saturday, Bertucco did not have a hammer ride ,He Lied to you
Kevin insisted on a coffee stop ,i did not beat the Rain,

Sunday Solo , with a late start

Sorry @Mark Taylor, that's not just bc of the coffee stop, it's also the fact you all had to wait for me 2-3 times!
Great to be back out!
Looks like it will be wet Saturday.

But Sunday, that's another story.  Last week, we made it to Nyack Beach.  I might want to continue north over MountainView to stretch out the ride a bit.   (we've got SBSC to prepare for, after all)

I'll be sticking inside this weekend through next weekend while we move apartments.
Snowing heavier than expected, and salt trucks have been rumbling around. I think this is a trainer weekend for me. Anyone up for a long Zwift in the morn?

Trails today for me ,weather turned earlier than expected , tons of fun

I'm regretting not going out this morning.  I think I could have ridden from 9-11.  Alas.

for a change of pace, I did 30 minutes on my track bike on rollers, then 45 on the Kickr with my road bike.

I'm going to get up tomorrow with the hope of riding outside.  But the GWB is currently closed to bikes and peds, and I'm guessing that unless it warms up a bit and dries out, the bridge will also be closed tomorrow.

This might be a nudge to figure out gravel riding in The Bronx.
ok, so I'm trying to get back into the outdoor miles thing.  Was hoping to get in the SB Century this weekend, but I htink my body needs a little more acclimitization to the outdoor riding thing.

I'm planning/hoping to be at the GWB at 9am both days.  3-4.5 hours each day.

Saturday might be a bit trickier, as it appears there's a chance of overnight snow.

Sunday will probably be fine.

I may be up for a 9am ride from GWB 🤞
FWIW, just found out I have to be back at the GWB by 11:25.  No one has to return with me; happy to start off with the group and then turn back on my own.
Met up with JP at the GWB (he reports that the bike path on the bridge is significantly better than on Saturday). We rode north on the low roads which were mostly dry. The snow on the road side has not melted, but the roads were clear. I opted for a Garmin Varia instead of a fender and did not regret the decision. After 4 hours my bike had a mild to moderate amount of road salt on it. I've had worse on dry cross races.

JP turned back in Sparkill and I decided to take advantage of the first outdoor ride since the Blizzard of 2026 and headed to the Conklin Orchards.

Note: If you head up that way be mindful of the potholes on the climb to the orchards. The edge of the road was collapsing in a few areas. It would be possible for a rider trying to hug the shoulder in order to let a car pass to lose their front wheel in a ditch.

Once on 9W in Jersey I met an intrepid Brit from Cornwall. Thirty five degrees with grey skies was glorious as far as he was concerned.

Overall, I did see a couple dozen riders. Not as many as usual, but cyclists are definitely getting sick of their trainers.

What about you, dear club/team mates? Sick of Zwift yet? Don't be afraid of heading over the bridge. The riding is "glorious"

I was all set to have a Sunday ride out to Rockland Lake with the gang, but it looks like the weather isn't planning on cooperating.  Seems like there's a 60% chance of snow showers Sunday morning.

I'll be at the GWB Saturday at 9am, planning on a fast-ish ride out to the Orchard (inspired by Patrick).
FWIW, the ride averaged 18mph door-to-door.

Probably should call that fast for this time of year.
If the weather holds up this Sunday (Daylight Savings Time begins... "spring" forward an hour!) I'm planning to head out for a simple ride up to Nyack and back.

Not to put you late to work for a week but it Springs forward on the 8th.

FML you should have let me cook as the kids say.

Well I guess we're still dealing with regular hours! I'm cool with 8 or 9a GWB depending on participation.
