Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

Solo baby.
Full disclosure though - the 25 was broken into 5x5 with very little rest.
holy shit
Question. Why the 5x5? What kind of rest? How strong was the wind?
Inquiring minds want to know.
2x20 was prescribed, but I chickened out - the power is there (apparently) but I was daunted by 2x20 minutes over 310. Knowing accumulation is the name of the game I bargained myself into 25 minutes total, five minutes at a time. I know, I know, I'm weak minded.

The 30 was great though - no rest, just wail away.

The wind was bad. The back stretch was 27 mph of fun, coming around the corner into the headwind I was getting slaughtered; even full gas. 22 mph and it felt like going uphill in the big chain ring.

Meh; Owens had me begging for mercy at the back of the train 2 weeks ago. I shudder to think what he's going to do to the pack, pink bartape and all...
Joe, Ryan (and Harry for a bit) did a nice 75 miler, hitting the hills fairly hard (always forget that one last upturn to the watertower) but mostly tempo on the flats.

Mueller is a climbing laser. Up alpine I started with a decent lead and he came by. I could only finish a good 30 meters back and he wasn't even going full gas. If i ever lose that 10 lbs....
Pink bar tape makes you faster. Like white shoes.
@ Jules. I did 2x30 @ 292,294 watts with 15 minute recovery on the trainer last night.

I'm not sure who that makes tougher. I'm pretty sure its you since you dodged the RC Planes.

@ Owens / Joe - I'm almost tempted to cough up the $80 to ride for Joe at Battenkill if he is as buttery smooth as they are saying, I'd love to pretend I had something to do with him winning. But the fact is, my fat ass won't be able to get close to him when the roads tilt upward. Let's join weight watchers together, you know, for emotional support.

I would very much support you racing Battenkill. Would even drive you up there and find a place for you to stay.
@ Perlberg I think it's you. Trainer miles are like licking dead animal scrotum; salty, and more horrible by the minute.

I'll be there tomorrow. Have a few one minute maximums to work in if anybody wants a leadout :)
IL be at the bb at 8 tom

btw: i won't be joining you rascals tomorrow. baby cousin getting christened. must attend dreaded family get-together.
Joe is as strong as I've ever seen him. Go help him win Battenkill!!
Me,myself, and I went out for our 11:16:37.3 ride today. Cute dudes were a draw, but not enough. The plan was 1x3.5 hours and use the lumps to force us to work.

Gotta say, JP pulled like a monster on the flats. While JP set a tempo we all had trouble following on the hills. Coming into Tenafly for the double ascent of the Palisades, everyone was crying for mercy. No quarter was given. Names were taken. Asses handed over. There was a debate about whether power meters or muffin tops were more of a performance enhancer.

Somewhere out by Monsey, which we charged through after the turnaround in Albany, we thought we heard a Kiwi-accented voice call out Gymkata! Seemed faint at first, but then grew louder. Maybe it was the fumes talking, maybe the accumulated fatigue. Whatever it was, it scared the bejeezus out of us and we rode harder.

FAR OUT JP!! I TUMBLED YOUR RIDE ON STRAVA TODAY LOOKED LIKE A BLAST! CATCH YOU TODAY!?!
Ugh...bummed to have missed the Sunday ride. This is what happens when 42 of your last 72 hours were spent moving, non-stop, on your feet. Absolutely wiped out. I'll be the only guy riding solo on a Sunday. Jeez. Just as well, that 100-year-old record breaker would drop me on 9W today.

Marc, if you happen to be doing PP today I will maybe see you out there. I did a hard 90miler yesterday afternoon, so i also decided to skip today's morning bloodbath. I'll be out later in PP today doing an easy endurance hr or two.
Went out for a solo 60-miler over the bridge yesterday, as family duties meant I couldn't leave till noon-ish. Passed Ryan and Joe heading south on the West Side.

Set my PR on Alpine -- not in the ballpark for the best times here, but I was pretty friggin' psyched. Feeling stronger on the bike than I've ever felt before. Anyway, rode a nice hard tempo out to the Deli, the skies were turning dark and I didn't feel like riding home in a cold rain so I turned around there and rode another nice hard tempo back. Full tourist mode by the time I hit the Intrepid - noodled home just taking in the sights and trying to avoid pedestrians. Note to self: if you head out late, ALWAYS take the Manhattan Bridge back....

Bummed I missed this morning's group ride, but decided that I'd be better served by the rest. Will probably head out to PP this afternoon for a couple hours.

I think Neil Ross and I are heading over the Bridge again tomorrow (President's Day Family Men w/o Families Ride) if anyone's interested.

@datearns As a family man without a family tonorrow I'd be interested in joining. I may end up doing some hill repeats on Alpine but would love to to accompany on the way out. What time are you leaving?
Nice ride today. Big group, couldn't name them all.

Went to Rockleigh and did some crit stuff. Got aggressive fast, I think next week we'll have to set some ground rules so everyone has a chance to practice cornering, pack riding etc. before the group blows up. and we need prizes. anybody?

But what I did love was that dudes who got dropped just cut across the course and jumped back in. sweet. good workout.

After that, we split up. Most went to Piermont for muffins and coffee. JP, Patrick and I went towards Rockland Lake and returned via 9W. Nice riding, nothing too hard, but honest pace. Lonely ride back to Brooklyn for me. Finished the day with close to 90 miles.

See everyone next Sunday for the BIG SUPER GIGANTIC LAST SUNDAY IN FEB. ALL CAPS LOCK GROUP RIDE.
Good times!

Few photos up here https://twitter.com/#!/KissenaCycling sadly the battery on the Saddle-Cam died early in the ride.

JP was beyond gentlemanly in showing us the Rockleigh (sp?) Criterium secrets, and the usual hardmen made it look easy. Last gasp for me ahead of the LA camp, it was great to see some new faces.

Malcolmson slapped me like a banjo at a hoedown on the final sprint.

I did put up some nice NormP though:

5 minute 375
10 minute 351 (average is 292 so huge VI)
20 minute 313

Now it's time for some ReST, and a steak.
Well since we're throwing #s up on here I'll jump in

Flogged myself on the trainer this afternoon. Started out thinking I felt like crap and maybe ought to just take the day off, but a threshold workout was scheduled, so, gotta do it because I'm maladjusted like every mildly successful cat 4 cyclist in his mind 30s

Ended up doing my best numbers on the trainer ever with 10 min @ 291 and then 20 min @ 283

weight 145

Then did 8 x 20 sec all out, 2 min RI. Ughhh puke

Now its time to go observe presidents day. Here's to the great emancipator. Off to Best Buy!
I did a paltry 50 min on the trainer when I realized my legs were dead. Something about double the volume and intensity from any week since... you get the idea. I'm saving it for Sunday's BIG BLOW OUT CAPS RIDE!!!

Rock on indeed!

I'm 158 these days looking for 155 by bkill
Sorry I missed the group rides this weekend fellas... I was toast yesterday after pretty hard training Wednesday and Thursday nights, so I moved my 4 hr ride to Piermont and back this afternoon. Saw Mike, and then David G. returning over the BB... saw Mattie at Bunbury's. My ride was uneventful but quite pleasant with the lovely weather (the Hudson was like glass when I crossed back over the GWB). For the first time ever, I listened to music on my ride --in one ear, well partially in the ear, I'm paranoid about not hearing something coming up on me. What did I listen to? The soundtrack to The Artist --ah, lush orchestral strings, really swell for riding! It's a great movie... highly recommended! I got home and ate a half jar of almond butter with baking chocolate and a little buckwheat honey. For some reason, I just don't feel very well right now.

I'm thinkin' of trundling out to Floyd tomorrow for a 3-hour tour, a 3-hour tour...
fun2 ride w/a flock of kissenas 2day!

& the 'adventure/diversion' out to Rockleigh Criteruim course(thnx JP), coffee from good Josh&learning from Jules 4pace line on 9w return...avoided 'junk' miles of bk&ncy less a sprint down Broadway from 168th to 12th st for a totally civilized sunday brunch in Kissena Kit. ah, also saw JP @bagle shop 168&brdwy, &road out a bit w/a 'cool' post Kissena female (?) w/rectangular black&white glasses(she was also @Tour of Catskills)...her comment was "speed it up" as i slowly rolled up hill south bound on broadway, we hung together up to Columbia Univ.

so, i do hope/expect that the kcc 'California Troop' will return w/epic stories &images/video, not often a club team experiences so fine a trip(kudos ryan et al).

my numbers...well, actually have no idea, 38.5mi gwb to gwb, w/ 19.5mph avg, (guessing, just guessing)145watt average for 1:48(wow!); still had fun sprinting home a couple loops on crit course& climbing back on to tail end of mt goats climbs up leMont dordy(aka state line @9w).

thanks kcc s...h;>
I wish I could have come out but didn't do anything this weekend, apart from getting a massage on sat and going to jfk on sunday. im gonna go for a long 2h+ endurance ride tomorrow and then hang the bike until california. target weight is 145lbs as well, i have time until this matters anyway.
