Sounds good. If you want I can meet you at GAP around then, or I'll just keep my eye out. I'll be in a Kissena kit on a black Ridley. Hope to see you.

I don't know where the GAP is. I think the Grand Army Plaza is a safer location. If your not there i'll look for you inside.

I'm not a native speaker of Brooklynese but I'm pretty sure GAP = Grand Army Plaza
Oh, sorry my amateur move.
GAP = Grand Army Plaza, inside the park where the access road makes a little triangle and meets the park drive.

My first time meeting at GAP, I looked at a map and was totally confused (its a big plaza, it spans many blocks!).

if bitches want to step to it . . . i'll bring out the muthafuckin jawbone
Guys, gonna have to roll earlier than that. Plenty of sun; BB at 8 and GWB at 9?
Is the thimble still in Ryan's butt? Joe?
Ryan has it. But I might fly back early to take it back.
i can do 9am if Jules is gonna go dealbreaker on us

keith: can you swing that?

pls confirm

i'll bring jawbone, but might not give it up
9 ok for me (sort of). But we need confirmation.
Ryan? Jeff?
why no racing tomorrow?
AVD
The family is leaving for the week on Monday.
I'll be at BB at 8, no hurt feeling if I'm on my own :)
9 at GWB is fine. Prepare to die!!!!!!!!
OK, looks like we are on for 9:00 at GWB (8:00 at BB)
Jules should probably wait for Ryan and hope to see me on the west side bike path.
Ill be there 8am BB
not gonna make it. Had to yell at my neighbor who continually plays loud music 24-7.

Have fun!
Jawbone and Thimble United
Two of the contestants. I'll let them tell you their story.
super rad day

so nice to be out with my KCC homeboiz Aly, Jules, Ryan, Stokes and Keith

we took river road north where the 1st thimble battle went down. jules led ryan and i up front eh boat basin to through the 180 and continued to hammer until the trees cleared ont eh right. jsut as it got a little steeper, i put in a dig to see what was what. it gapped them a bit and i laid it on, easing up then pushing in 15 seconds intervals, constantly looking behind to see just how close Jules was (close!) i could see him get out of the saddle on the uneven pavement near the top, so i poured my last bit of juice on and crested the former site of the No Passing sign a few seconds in front. Oh . . . apparently, JP and Ragot removed the No Passing sign . . . cause they hate freedom, i assume. Ryan bequeathed me the thimble at the police station. So proud.

bad ass sprint up to the state line. i led it out, stokes jumped first, then ryan passed him, but jules took it in the last 10 meters (on the hoods, no less!).

dirt road to piermont, then the battle for the jawbone started: Ash, Tweed, Nike Lane. Jule sled from the bottom on the brutally steep slope of Ash, quickly dropping Ryan and the rest. Holding his wheel as he muscled up these first ramps was the hardest part. Once we got onto Tweed, I went to the front, putting in a few exploratory digs on the false flat. as we hit the 2nd to last incline up Tweed, Jules laid down an extremely proper attack. I went cross-eyed following his wheel, but had enough breath to wheeze out an honest question, "do you know where you're going?" because the left turn to Nike Lane was approaching. His "noooo!" was similar to the sound a gazelle makes just as the lion catches him. I came around him as he crumbled and finished a few seconds up at the dead end in Nike park.

keith (who had missed the start and time trialed up fromt eh bridge) met us at the top of Tweed. At the deli in piermont, we reconnected with Aly and Stokes (who had missed the turn), laughed at the George Carlin bits that Keith and Jules were performing (i snarfed nesquik) and watched Aly guzzle down a half pound of Mayo-rich potato salad.

the last contest of the day was southbound on the stateline. Aly picked up the pace at the foot, Jules latched onto his wheel and I latched onto his. Jules came around Aly halfway up and dropped him. The pace was extremely high (spiking me up into the 500's several times. Jules put in a monstrous 20 seconds at the top and I just couldn't come around him. Dude rightfully won the THimble with a brutal 2.5 minute effort.

Paceline on the way back

Pinkberry on my block

A great morning!
I dominated my solo group ride, featuring a similar Ash/Tweed/Nike to the park with the little water tower. Dropped all the southbound 9W stragglers. Won the gridlock westside bikepath swerving TT. Beat the fixters over the Williamsburg bridge. It was awesome.
Thimble, MINE ALL MINE!!!!

(great ride, proper race report when kids are asleep)
I really enjoyed this group ride! beautiful weather on top of it. it was the perfect follow up to racing the day prior, this is the kinda stuff that's gonna make me stronger. and now to chinatown for some sweet massage action.
lucky pig
Great ride today; met up with Ryan & Aly at the BB then cruised up the west side where Stokes did his usual Ninja-strike "appearing" silently on the wheel. WDC joined us on the far distant shore of GWB where William and Ryan held the day's Talismans aloft.... thusly we proceded down the Alpine coast, wind-burning our eyes and lactate burning our legs from the boat basin on up.

On the way we encountered a Troll; standing beside his car stopping cyclists to shout, wave inarticulately and point. We discussed various defensive tactics (fireball, magic missiles or urine) but decided mockery was our forte and continued on.

Upward from the boat basin I was feeling spry and William put paid to his stated appetite for the Legendary Thimble, so long hidden in Ryans darker hiding places. I hung on to his creaky wheel gamely until the exposed portion when Sir Will dropped the hammer and I settled for a new 5 minute PR; shattering my older record(s).

I made a long bomb Johnny Wrongway style attack at the State line sprint and pulled victory out of my arse, as it were; shattering several power records on the way.

From there we followed he mysterious unpaved wormhole, to Piermont, where the Jawbone was put on the altar of contest. Upward form the river we followed tweed to nike, and I clung like an angry marmot to that damn creaking blue frame, but despite my last ditch attack - I had lost track of time & space by then - Sir Will pranced away and I hung on for second, fearing humiliation at the hands of Ryan's dancing climbing style.

Gassed, we united with Keith aka Eastwood Jr. and descended back to town to reconnect with Aly & Stokes, who had been off chasing rainbows or unicorns or such. After some good chatter about Evie's hottness, Carlin's cleverness and Aly's remarkable performance diet - mayonaise soup - we headed home.

Back through the dirt-paved wormhole, the final assault was the State Line climb, where I grimly pressed my big ring into action first on Aly's wheel and then out on my own; nemesis "blue creaker" on me like a bad habit. At one point I *swear* somebody was hanging on my saddle I felt so slow; toward the top I left the saddle and remarkably no one came by.

Sir Will, ever the gentleman patted me on the back and stuffed The Thimble into my pocket. SWEET, SWEET VICTORY!

I don't care if was won (as were my park sprints against Malcolmson) against a tired or courteous foe; I'll take a win of any kind and REMIND YOU ALL of it until my dying breath.

A quick paceline home where I followed Sir Will up the final sprint unable to come around and we were Brooklyn bound.

A fine day out with the lads if I do say so myself.

Thanks Guys!
