Grammar police, quick question: Hoth-tastic or Hoth-riffic?

Burrrrrr, that was cold and a little damp. I undressed from that ride in front of the washing machine, because there was no way my wife was going to let me leave those slushy clothes anywhere else in the house. Awesome to attempt riding in 12+ inches of snow, but I can now confidently say: cyclocross in snow is hard!
Morning Gents,
Feels great to wake up and read on the boards that PP is clear to ride.  Thanks for the update.  Jule, that Van Dessel looks like it is made for the snow.  I am heading to ride some laps at PP around 11:45 if anyone wants to join.  Wearing a Red Pearli Zumi top on a silver gunnar crossbike.  I will stop at noon where the new member riders meet up.  Cheers.
Neil was the last man turning laps out there when I left so I think he is our new "KCC WInter Champ."   I think I win that honor based on percentage of body fat alone.  Nice seeing you guys out there.

you must have been reading this: http://deadspin.com/5980132/donut-flavors-ranked

"Please note that I'm not gonna include any of the crazy boutique flavors available at hipster donut shops. I'm just going with the standard offerings, so don't bitch about Maple Fried Chicken Strawberry not being on here"
Any game plan for Sunday ride? Anyone have idea if 9W will be rideable tomorrow morning without 32's & a shovel?
@Ros- Seems that all of the talk of riding tomorrow has migrated to the Annual Superbowl Ride thread.  The upshot is that it sounds like a select few may still be considering heading over the Bridge with a possible 8AM departure from the Jersey side of the GWB for points north. However, concerns have been raised as to whether the bike path on the GWB will have been reopened at that early hour. In addition David Stokes has looked at the weather forecast (which predicts that temperatures will  remain in the low 20's until 11AM and wisely suggested that ice may be a dangerous hazard on the ride.  Persuaded by that argument, a few of us, myself included, have punked out of the big ride tomorrow.  There does seem to be a possible plan percolating however for some riding in Prospect Park tomorrow.  For more...go to the Superbowl Ride thread.
@Neilx – Thanks! I found the thread. I think I will also skip the potential 9W adventure tomorrow and probably do PP if it's not extremely icey out.
I am in for the PP ride today.  I have no fender either.  As Aaron said, what time are you all thinking?
I'll be heading to the park around noon.  I can't ride for too long, some big stuff due this week.

I believe Ros and Aaron know what I look like, but for those who don't, I don't have kit yet and instead sport a Fabulously Fred(TM) yellow fluo jacket on a blue and orange CAAD10.  oh, and no fenders.  so just follow the hydrant-like flow of slush and salt spewing from my rear tire.

mostly i just want to see what the park looks like.  i can imagine the laps will proceed at a gentle pace, at least initially, given the high chances of ice and slush puddles.
I'll be in PP today. 11am on.
In at 11:30. Gold Cross bike w rear fender. Kit is lower half Kissena, top half stealth....cycling satyr style.
Make it 11:48 for me.
running a tad late, more like12:15. i'll wait at the triangle until i see some guys in kit.
@Brendan, @Neilx, I should be out there in PP at 12:30. Will try to link up with you guys.
Just came back from two hours in Central Park.  I saw maybe seven people on bikes.  Rode with one.

CP is in very good condition.  Pretty dry on the roads.  The worst spot in the park is the worst spot in the park.  Which is to write that the road at the south end, from the 7th ave exit to the 6th ave entrance is covered in ice, save the "bike path"

Following JP's lead, a prospectus on Prospect Park:

roads are fine, some slush in places, but didn't notice any particularly troublesome spots in the 2 hours we were there.  more people than usual, including lots of kids sledding.  thankfully, the lack of snow on the roads meant that sleds stopped before the road.  certain sections of road are narrower due to snow, but that's mostly on the side roads and inlets than in the loop itself.  overall: green light; riding was quite pleasant due to sun and lack of wind.  glad i ventured out.

it was more dangerous getting there than getting around once i was there.  lots of the non-park roads are covered in slush, with cars jutting out into the bike lanes or unplowed bike lanes.

if you don't feel like having to rinse your bike off afterwards, stick to indoor options.  still a healthy bit of moisture, especially with the sun glaring down on the roads.

@ Brendan - thanks for the update.

It looks like the rain and warmth tomorrow will be enough to wipe the roads clean (and hopefully take most of the salt with it).

Tried to hit up 9W yesterday at 2pm but GWB walkway was still closed - went to CP instead and did laps.  It was beautiful out - almost no cyclists but plenty of runners and tourists.  I found myself thinking, why don't I come out here more often?

And then I remembered why - because it's crowded.
For those among us who don't live the jet set life, every weekend is training camp.  Every Sunday ride is training camp.

Next Sunday's ride, that of February 24th, is the last Sunday before the local road racing season starts.  This is typically a ride that everyone who is planning on racing in March should do.  We roll out to our usual, visit the Rockleigh criterium course, do some slow laps, some fast laps, a sprint or two, and then resume the ride, with typically the V's, IV's, and I/II/III's splitting into groups and doing the rest of the ride in these groups.  All should be hitting 9W on the way home with a hard paceline.

If you don't think you're ready for this, come out this weekend to prepare.  If you think you're ready, come out anyways.

damn, there's no "i'm intimidated" button
THe intimidation should just be enough that you come to the ride prepared for everything.
Damn it!  I would love to be able to make the ride, but unfortunately I'll be in London with work.

Got mah drink mix, more resilient tires (the better to avoiding bringing the group to a halt while I change a tube), and a gel or two.  Now I just have to ensure I get to bed at a reasonable hour on Saturday.  Quite excited.  More excited than intimidated.  Thanks for rallying the troops!

Argh - can't be there either.  One day* I'll make it to the pre-season training ride.

*by which I mean, one day someone will schedule it for Saturday instead of Sunday.

I will be there, tubby, slow and not ready to race in March, but that was never the plan. I am saving myself for when real racing starts, and I don't freeze.
Brendan et al,
On the gel note, may I suggest to those who are concerned about their ability to complete the distance (whatever distance that may be) always having at least one caffeinated gel in your pocket.  This is the "use in case of emergency stash.

And for those coming from brooklyn, it's also not a bad idea to eat a bar immediately upon crossing the GWB.
Feb 24th ride --I will plan on joining in this, which should make my last group ride before taking-up residence in Portland. It will also be my first group ride in a damn long time!
Anyone riding tomorrow, Saturday, up the 9W?  If so, wanna meet at the Brooklyn Bridge at 8 a.m.?  Drop a note if you wanna ride.  Thanks.
