I was there for a bit this afternoon. Beautiful weather with a nice breeze coming off the water. Massive scene with big crowds, a dozen food trucks and Six Point tents scattered about. Just before the Last Chance race the wind picked up and blew the course fence (that same orange stuff we use at Supercross) all over the place. They ended up having to tie up all the sponsor banners. Bummer. Anyway, I'm probably not going to make it down there this evening. Have fun.

I held myself back from saying it, but I'm glad you did Dan. Pileups like that don't happen when the people in the back have brakes.

It's such a shame; a real nighttime crit in that location would probably get just as many attendees.

Not to sound like a complete wank...but why not just let people have a front brake on their bikes...you are not on a velodrome?

I had a blast Saturday night, i even convinced my wife to come along to her first bike race ( Shes getting leg Tattoos in the morning;)
I haven't been for a couple of years , but it seemed noticeable to me that the whole race is way faster than it used to be ,

That crash at the start of the women's race sucked and was unfortunate.

RHC simply restarted the race. I am not 100%, but think only one rider did not make the restart because of road rash. Ultimately, as bad as it the video looks, this crash was mostly irrelevant. 

The racing, the quality of sportsmanship, athleticism, skill, and strategy exhibited by both the women and men fields is unrivaled by any bicycle race in the United States. It is a show. And it is amazing to be there. 

CONES!

If you look closely, you'll see the rider hit a big flash some fool had clamped to the fencing, hard to see if she hits a cone and then the flash -- i.e. the crash was maybe caused by the rider/cone. This "photographer" was removed from the venue.

I rode with the winner. I feel super special now.  Those guys were crushing the park but definitely avoiding the Cipo event.
