I will be out at 6:00 AM endurance pace for 90 minutes starting at GAP.
ill be out around 8am for some tempo
i'll be out at 6am for some recovery laps.
oK, folks, it's time for the weekly training schedule for the park warriors.

Tuesday - 2 lap TT efforts. I want you to start at the start / finish line. do 2 laps as hard as you can. Rest for one lap, repeat. Try to make the second effort as good as the first. DO NOT DRAFT EACH OTHER! Remember to press on the downhills and back off on the uphills.

Wednesday - Group riding - paceline 2x2 and rotating. If you don't know what these are, look here: http://www.westchestercycling.com/PDF/pacelines1.pdf

Thursday - Hard Efforts! After warming up for two laps, I want you to do 8 hill climbs on center drive. Start by the containers on the bottom and go as hard as you can for 30 seconds. Then turn around (safely), get to the bottom and do it again.

Have fun folks!

Coach Eric
Awesome thanks, coach.
Ugh. I can't wait for TT efforts.
These all start at 6am at the triangle? If anyone has a more flexible schedule and wants to follow this later on in the day, hit me up. I'll shoot for 6am but I'd be much happier a little later!
I'm working nights at my job now so I don't know how often I'll make 6am. I'll be following the weekly schedule, just a bit later in the day most days.
Jay I'll send you a note when I'm headed out. Tomorrow I'm shooting for
7am.

i'm in for tomorrow a.m.
6am that is..
All,

I'll be out for the 6am workouts when possible (though this week is not great for me). I've done almost every variation of the things Eric is likely to throw our way.

We'll meet at the GAP triangle and roll out at 6:05. I am likely to get out earlier for the longer workouts (like the TT efforts) cause I generally need to scoot not long after 7:00 but I'll join the group at 6:00.

Lt Dan also knows these workouts very well (maybe too well) and many others know the general gist of most of them.

These will make you stronger and also makes getting up in time for the early morning park races seem like not a big deal.

See you out there.

Jim

Meredith, the park opens to traffic at 7am...
^ Not nearly as big a deal since they limited it to one lane last year.
wimps.  what's a little rain? Joel and i smashed it.  actually, joel smashed it.  welcome to spring!

Great hard effort laps today. Nasty outside at 6am, raining the entire time. The large scope of Kissena members really came into play today. Chances are someone will always be there -- It was great to find Mckay at GAP this morning. It turned a crap weather day into a profitable quality ride, keeping the other in check. Great ride today Mckay. I'll be there tomorrow. cheers.

I'm headed to the park in 20 minutes. I'm not sure where the start / finish line is for the TT so I think I'll just make something up if I don't see it on the warm up lap (I figure at least one this week is better than none). I'll do my best to get up in time for the hills tomorrow, which is what i need the most.
@Meredith Martin‌ the start/finish is at the little triangle just before Center Drive on the east side. That's usually the same start/finish for races as well.
Good little group this morning for some nice hard paceline riding.  - Joel, Eric M, Lt Dan, and myself.

We saw Thierry on a different program.

I should be out for the Center Drive intervals tomorrow.
Count me in for the Center Drive intervals, too.
Ok if Kayt is going I'll go.

I did the TT today as best I could, not really knowing how to work my
watch. My first lap was 11:28 and my second was 11:40; lots of room for
improvement!

Sorry guys, I'll miss the 6 am meet-up. I'll be out a little later (7ish) if there are any other stragglers who had a late night.
Oh man I slept right through both alarms. Kayt, if you can do 7am regularly I'd be more than happy to sleep an extra hour and do these workouts with you regularly. Headed there in about 15 for a quick "as many hills as I can do before 9am"

Also: I had no idea Strava saved my splits on prospect park! That is so cool. So according to that, yesterday the splits were actually 11:14 and 11:18, I think, though at one place it also says "your PR 11:06" which confuses me. Anyhow, I'll see what I can do next week to improve it!
I am thinking I might also be more likely to be out at 7:00 on the mornings I make it out.  Will keep my eyes on this thread for others.
Sprints this morning, as prescribed by Dr. Ragot.  After taking the bitter medication, one feels swollen, and tottery, and of course one wonders at the efficacy.  Is this really good for me?  Saturday will tell.  But misery likes company, and it was good to see Jim and Eric suffering too.  A bit diluted at this time of year, perhaps, but full strength tonic is a matter of weeks away I think.
Emily, I''m happy to join for a 7am club! I went out around 10:15 (after my Pilates class) to try to do my hills and got through three before I realized that turning around "safely" and going back down is illegal. Learned that from the nice cops at the bottom of the hill. Soooooo I lied and said I dropped my key but my "get out of tickets" charm wore off when I was 25 or so. In any case, I hope I brought no ill-repute to the club. I'll loop all the way around to Center drive and cut through the park next time.
@Meredith, sorry you had to learn the hard way.  After the hill, take the shortcut through center drive if you don't want to do the full loop.

Charlie, our race director, emphasizes the below in race emails, but all points apply for all other times as well.

2.  Do not ride the wrong way (against traffic) before, during, or after the race.  This is not only our rule but a general traffic rule.  The Parks Dept has informed me the Police will be issuing tickets this year.

3. Do not ride on any pedestrian paths.

4. Please be courteous to other Park users.
Hi David:
I had ALWAYS followed those rules, but this threw me off from the earlier message:

Thursday - Hard Efforts! After warming up for two laps, I want you to do 8 hill climbs on center drive. Start by the containers on the bottom and go as hard as you can for 30 seconds. Then turn around (safely), get to the bottom and do it again.

I read that and thought -- huh, am I supposed to get to the bottom by turning around and going down the hill? So it's my bad reading. No worries.
We may be getting hills mixed up here.

You want to do those efforts on center drive, not the hill on the main loop.
Ah understood.

Just so we're clear, the hard efforts are for Center Drive, the road that cuts through the middle of the park NOT the actual hill after the zoo that goes up to Grand Army Plaza.  Entrance ("containers") is on the left immediately following the start/finish line.  It's not a dramatic hill, but it is certainly enough that by the 6th interval your legs will feel like they want to fall off.  I called these "The Worst", but that was before we started doing full Center Drive intervals.
