Prospect Park Weekday Morning Training

Ha! Sadly I know what you mean Bruce.
A nice morning to be out, and I almost took back the KOM along 5th ave going to the park that David Lipscomb took away from me the other day, but more training is needed.  2 seconds off.

4 of us at GAP this morning, a good group on the Peloton riding circles, and so many Brooklyn Triathletes out today, you couldn't swing a rope tied to a hydrant without hitting one.
(Too early to use that yet?)
We rode together a short distance before everyone broke off to do their thing.  I spied Tim back on his bike (nice to see you!), and Strava shows me other teammates were out circling the park for some good morning training.

And the only thing better than passing a triathlete doing time trial cadence while on loud carbon wheels and super expensive bike parts, is passing him with a more expensive bike.  (OK, passing him with a less expensive bike would be great, but I absolutely have to keep justifying it, even though Mom said I should reward myself).

I went home and after eating a cheese omelette for starters, had some granola and coffee for breakfast.  Hill repeats make me hungry.

Love reading the morning training report Bruce..

A misty morning on a wet road at GAP today, with Thierry, Dale, Konrad, Jeff A. and Jeff C.  We watched Mike P. screaming by on a hot lap.  Then clipped in and rode in a single paceline but it really started as an attempt to catch Konrad who makes going fast look way too easy.

Dale dropped back to do some training, and I broke off before the Start/Finish for 2 lap TT practice, and once out of the KCC slipstream, regretted my move, though I imagined I was on the front instead of off the back.

On my second set of laps, I was joined by Ingrid (Good morning! Nice to see ya), and then just past the temple a cyclist in generic kit jumped on my wheel.  I'm aware of the no-drafting policy when doing TT practice, but also considered the fact that every time I looked between my legs and saw his wheel, I was motivated to maintain if not pick up my cadence and speed.

I see that I shaved 26 seconds off my second set of two laps, which is a large enough change to tell me that the draft pushed my speed, as this training ususally sees me at the same time or a few seconds faster on the second set.  My legs still hurt and I was drenched when done, so I'll consider it a good workout, regardless.

Strava shows me that I just missed seeing Craig Z, Tim, Joel and Adam, and I see that Jeff A didn't get enough punishment on yesterday's ride so circled the park for a few more laps.  Nice job everyone, good to see the riders I did, nice to see a lot of people were out this morning getting their training on.
Re: the unwanted drafter - either sit up and wave then through or nose blows...
I got to the 4th st entrance of the park at 6:06 so missed everyone, but I had my trusty ipod so I was OK.

Would I be correct in assuming that if I uploaded my file to strava I would also be able to see where I was in relation to the other Kissena's ? (Although this does seem like a piss-poor second to me arriving on time and having real human interaction.)

I also had a close following drafting rider today. I find that a squeeze of a bidon into their face usually does the trick.
However on this occasion I did NOT do that, because he was bigger than I was.

I do believe I saw Eloy also doing laps.
We must have missed you by about a minute, Ian.
Once on Strava, you'll need to 'follow' other riders so you can see a list of workouts that morning, though if you ride during close enough times, Strava may say you rode with other people.  There may be others who have loaded their rides but I don't follow so didn't see that they were in the park this morning.

You can join the club, and then see what's happening for the week

I think this is an invite only, now?
Meredith and Jessica, nice job yesterday.  Man, everyone rides long on Tuesdays while I sit in the office having more coffee.
Tuesdays are the new Sunday

i saw you there this morning , great to see you back!
Got soaked, but was fun.

Again tomorrow (Friday) 6:30am stupid slow. 20ish miles.
Left leg drills for me this morning.  I almost turned back for arm warmers but absolutely refused, what with it being June.
My ride was so slow that I had the distinct privileged of riding with Joel, Thierry, and Dale, all at different times, as they cruised up to me like a Navy frigate on inspection duty and, observing the listing dinghy, gracefully motored away.  I did manage to ride up the hill once with my left leg, and then half the hill on other laps.  I'm going to keep that in mind the next time I've got both feet clipped in.

We spied other teammates out this morning as people are getting ready for weekend racing or long group rides.  Nice to see you guys today.
It was also nice to see you Bruce, apologies for my bitching and moaning, It could be signs that I'm getting tired of riding.

Is your bike name the Antelope?

I got out this morning, 6am GAP, and said hello to Avi and Dale.  I went on my way to do slow laps and work the rest of this summer flu out of my system.  I spied Eric riding with the Prospect Peloton, Eloy, Craig Z out for laps, and Erika, plus the tri club doing their Tuesday laps.

Nice to see teammates again, be out on the road.  My plan is to do more slow laps over the next couple of days while I get used to being back on the bike.  I'll be at GAP 6am.  It's been a hard season for me, but it ain't over yet.
6am GAP on a warm, humid morning.  Jim, Thierry and I rode some good, solid laps, with a couple of harder efforts thrown in.  We saw Jeff C tearing it up on fast laps (you look good out there), picked up a 4th rider in non-team kit who kept up with us but didn't join, and we strategized about how Patrick and Brendan can keep their L&C colors, but won't share it with anyone because it was too good; but I'll give you a hint, it involved riding really, really fast.

Strava is showing me other teammates were out this morning. . . running.  I forgot we were allowed to do that.  Nice to see everyone out getting their exercise on during these summer mornings.
Running?  Lame. (Okay guilty.  But seriously it is so gross out there without the on-bike breeze).
Also guilty, I confess.  I'm running the NYC Marathon in November, and it's time to start getting ready for that.
I'm planning on heading out Tuesday morning , But have been fighting a chest infection, are you guys doing specific work outs or just laps, the large group maybe a better option if you are going hard
I'll be tomorrow July 8th 6am at GAP. No specific workout, just roll for about 25+ miles.

See you then
I'm not sure I'll make it out on Tuesday so I'm glad the team colors will be flying in the AM.
I've been pondering the best coaching advice to give to a diverse group of fitnessed riders. I've decided that specific workouts are not the answer. Instead, I want the morning crew doing a few things:
Tuesday. 2x2 lap TT efforts. Start at base of hill by zoo, finish at kom line.
Wednesday. Group ride focusing on smoothness and paceline smoothness.
Thursday. Hard group ride. 30 second to 1 min pulls in a double pace line.

That should do well for you.

You can also choose a day to focus on the hard pace line but then leading someone out up the hill to the new finish. Regroup and go at it again with a new sprinter.

Jim and I rode circles today in the park.  We were passed by Jeff C at one point.  And we saw Lynn Murray stretching his leg across the top tube like some kind of Yoga Magi.  It was pretty impressive.  He's looking to use those stretching skills at the upcoming R&A, no doubt.

Last night's 5 minute storm blew branches and debris all over the road, but nothing too dangerous.
Missed you at floyd last night Bruce.
I saw some photos up on FB and they called to me.  I'm trying to get my a$$ in gear so I can get out there.  I don't give a crap about getting dropped anymore, since that's what Floyd's all about anyway.  You're either working on your fitness or your self-doubt.
Magic 8 ball says all signs point to Tuesday
Hoping to be out for tomorrow's paceline.  If the park isn't too awful I'd love to do some KOM and new finish line leadout drills to prep for the next L&C.
I'll try and get up there early enough to meet you David.

This morning there were several KCC peeps doing their thing, generally all solo. I saw Jeff C as I was doing my worst(s) on center drive. Adam F came by me quickly as I was doing a cool down lap. Jeff A came cruising by me on the hill and then Thierry saddled up next to me for a few pedal strokes up the hill prior to my departure. Good to see everyone out there.
David, Craig, what time + where in the park do you meet?
Eloy -  6am at Grand Army Plaza entrance. Roll at 6:05.

I'm also likely for tomorrow.
