sounds like a great way to assess your VO2 Max
Good news: we're about to get some fresh tarmac in PP.

Bad news: west drive is closed starting today, until the 8th.

I guess it's PP hill sprints and central park rides this week
Hey John - how do you do hill repeats at PP? Do you just ignore the one way bike traffic rule?
Center drive hill repeats are your friend. The other alternative is to ride up the hill, ride out the park down Flatbush, and re-enter just after the PP Zoo.

Nope, go outside of the park.  Never ignore the one way bike rule, especially not when wearing Kissena kit ;)
Ha! Oh trust me I would never.
Put on the street jersey and practice rolling down the hill backwards? Going to stick w central park I think.

Also, unrelated yet awesomely coincidental that as I was reading these posts a branch fell from a tree and landed right in front of me while walking haha so thanks to the extra .5 sec distraction of this post I will be riding CP this week after all! Haha kissena saves lIves
Center drive hill repeats are killer and there is two way traffic so you can just roll back down.
They began moving machinery to tear up the downhill this morning, not sure how much they've gone through or if there's any road left when you come out of Center drive.
The top part of the road has asphalt just after GAP, though I don't know how far it goes down.  I'm hoping top half loops may be possible next week, 'cause gotta love me some hill repeats.
Their giant Cold Planer looked like it had been purchased after doing battle on Hoth.
Road is now torn up all the way down to the southern-most entrance. They're making quick work of it though – Wouldn't be surprised if center drive was reached by Tuesday or so. Feast your eyes on this gorgeous tarmac :D

was at the park this morning. reiteirating the post above...

The whole west drive from grand army to the coney island ave entrance have been torn up.

They started repaving already, and it is repaved from GAP to the 3rd street entrance.

Weather is usually the biggest delaying factor on these projects, but they were getting ready to start paving from 3rd street on.

It is not clear whether they will touch the east drive at all.
so it looks like they're going to done repaving by then end of the day friday?

I guess drawing lines is their next thing.
if weather/rain doesn't get in the way, assuming only one pave coat is needed, they should be done sometime early next week with the West Drive, not counting painting.
Who is up for giving the park a shot tomorrow? I need to do some sprint workouts, and I hate doing that on the trainer.

6AM @ GAP
Rain until 9pm, 6am shows 30F, feels like 19 with 16 mph winds.

Come, Leonidas. Let us reason together. It would be a regrettable waste, it would be nothing short of madness, were you, brave King, and your valiant troops to perish... all because of a simple misunderstanding.

Not sure if anyone else went out this morning. My timings tends to be later than the 0600 meet up....anyway it was really cold. Did two full laps and then the workmen started so I did some small laps. See image for update to planed section. Everything else is very smooth indeed. Can't help but feel as though you can tell where the potholes are going to form already though.
this is awesome. I am so there tomorrow.
Weather permitting, they should be able to make progress today, tomorrow, and Friday.
Just got back from morning laps - it is gorgeous out there. Just a final 20 feet that is unfinished.

Howdy to whoever that was also doing Peaks crit sprints — that was me in the black and fluorescent green (Tinkoff green?) kit.
spent a few minutes in the park, as mentioned, about 100 meters by the Coney Island ave exit triangle, at the bottom of park, remains to be paved.

Wheather permiting, they should be all done today.

They were also marking up to paint lanes. starting from GAP.

Hey Ben, that was me.  Nice ta meecha.  Thanks for the shout out.
I got out late this morning; it was 51F and that renewed a bit of spirit in me.  A couple of more days and I think we're through this weather.
I was out.  Bruce can vouch.  Crit sprints, yay!
Rode a few laps today, they clearly didn't do much yesterday, but were paving the last 50ish meters today. I would jump the curve and ride a little dirt trail for a few seconds and get back on the road (which is totally illegal, but no one said anything)

They should be fully paved today.

The lane markup was almost at the beginning of the downhill. I presume they'll start painting next week.
I second the recommendation of the dirt detour!
All paved.
was there today for a little while, rode a bit w Jeffrey, and yes, all paved.

Paved smoother than a baby's foot. It's glorious. And crowded.
it was crowded yesterday, and windy, but nice and smooth pavement.

Because there were no lines it was pure anarchy. People walking and running everywhere, and cyclists riding into the joggers lanes to get around folks. I realized if it is lane markers that are the only thing keeping this thin veneer of civilization going, we're all screwed. I would like to point out in Mad Max: Fury Road, no lane markings at all (see where we're going).

If this is the future I'm changing the sticker on my top tube to from Lt Dan to Imperator Danerosa.
rode 90 minutes yesterday, found it to be fine.
