Prospect Park Weekday Morning Training

Laps at 6am tomorrow (Tues) if anyone is interested, weather will be 65 & partly cloudy
ok, guess i just had to experience that for myself to truly appreciate all that nature has to offer...some experiences Sam  Olsen & I had during the PP ride this morning:

water bottles froze (expected)

no amount of human intervention was able to keep my toes warm, after 40 minutes they got cold despite having insulated socks, shoes, & booties on (unexpected)

sorry bud, but I must report that apparently Sam was frozen to his pedals & came to a falling stop at the end of his ride

indoor trainer purchase coming in imminent future, stubbornness brought down to a tolerable level

Everyone has a threshold of how low of temperature they can tolerate.

For some it is 8°F for others 38°. sunny and dry, like today, allows for lower temps.

For me it is 18/19°F -- Below that it is simply an exercise on how fast will my hand, toes and everything else freeze (usually 55ish minutes), plus some non-glory on the fact that: "it was so cold my bottle froze" but otherwise a trainer workout could be time better spent.

The only threshold of mine that goes up with time away from my bike...

John, Chemical foot warmers...the ones that are very flat and have an adhesive background have cured most all of my numb toe issues.

Still, an indoor trainer is an extremely valuable tool.
I might could get up in the morning to roll around Prospect Park to check out the new pavement ... if I do, it will be a 6:30am timeframe start.  i'll confirm later this evening
Jules is running a skillz and drillz session tomorrow, Monday, morning at 6:15am.  Meet at GAP!  This is especially helpful for those new to racing/riding in a pack!
looks like the weather is finally starting to break, will be out in Prospect Park Tues-Thurs mornings this week. 6AM start at Northern end of the loop for all those who would like to join
Meeting place is always GAP (grand army plaza entrance) which is what I think you mean by northernmost loop.
yes, there! thats where i will be, not soo good w acronyms haha
I should be out at least a couple days this week. 6:00am GAP - roll at 6:05.

Unfortunately I can't make tomorrow morning but highly encourage anyone new to racing to get out there and bump shoulders (and bars) with Jules.

Good sprint practice this morning with Jim and John.  It was still chilly, but light out early.  We saw a large NYCC group forming at GAP, and some riders, like me, trying to figure out how to ride outside again.
No real formation of a Prospect Peloton yet.  I think this is the week people are realizing they really can start training outside again.
I'll be out tomorrow at 6am GAP, 6:05am roll out.  Will be doing the Peaks workout (35 min tempo plus warm up / warm down)
Delna and I are planning on going out tomorrow at 6:15am. We'll meet at GAP. If anyone else wants to join!
love me a good flat at 6:30AM, first one of the year

Another gorgeous morning in PP. Rode with John, Chaim, James, and Eloy for a few laps and then the group broke apart a bit as John had a big Kablooey flat and other folks did some proscribed workouts. Saw Scott on the side of the road at GAP.

Watching the sun rise over the lake is an awesome way to start a day.
First prospect park laps done and I couldn't have dreamed of a nicer start. The sun rising over the lake really was awesome, it puts CP to shame. Really enjoyed riding with the group and can't wait to do it in Kissena kit. Until next time.
Who's up for thursday?
I should be there.
A warm morning with Jim, Scott, and Eric, nice riding with you guys.

After 2 laps of tempo I got dropped, shifted into the small ring and watched a growing contingent of riders doing intervals sliding past me.  My legs were a little swollen from yesterday's River Road ride so I took it easy.  How pleasant that park is at 12mph.

I spied Jeff out there doing hard efforts before we gathered, and Chaim kicking some smoke under his tires as well - you guys are looking good.  Nice kit.

I realized when we pushed off that Dan was rallying the troops, not posting he would actually make it out by 6am!

Looking forward to a day off tomorrow.
Nice to catch you guys for once! I won't be able to make many of these, but it was good to see a small group out this morning. Jim: I experienced serious bike envy with the new Giant. Looking fast! Which prompted this brief exchange with Bruce: how long is a carbon road frame supposed to last? Of course, beating the crap out of it by racing 50+ times per year with many trips to FBF is one thing, noodling around the park for a few hours per week (what I've been reduced to) is something else...
Your trek carbon frame should last you a lifetime.

I think 8 years or so, as I am learning, may be a more realistic expectation.

Generally speaking, a good frame will dramatically out live the components on it.

---  obviously, your mileage will vary.
Thanks Eloy! I did come across this article:

http://cyclingtips.com/2015/08/what-is-the-lifespan-of-a-carbon-frame/

Which does say that a good carbon frame should last a lifetime. I've looked for this kind of info before and never found it. Must have been at least a year or two since I've done so as it seems there is more "respectable" information on the interwebs now. This one is actually a very interesting read.
who's up for a Wed AM 6AM GAP meetup?
I intend to be there.
There
I guess I better show up too, unlike last time where I gave a call to action, and proceeded to sleep in. Be warned I am slow, fat and look more like an ewok in a POC helmet, than a sleek bike racer.
Sorry I missed you guys this morning.  Went out for some delicious seated hill repeats.  The Strava flyby shows that, other than a quick wave this morning, by sheer coincidence I missed you guys on each half circle of the park.

Bruce, we're glad your practicing going fast up that hill. Sunday is the day to see if all those times you were practicing not throwing up on your top tube have paid off.
