Reminder.
Thursday morning 6:30 am in Prospect Park.

You bring your CX bike. I'll bring barriers and cones.

You should know how to figure out the location inside the park.

On a somewhat related note: Has anyone gone to Smorgarsburg in Prospect Park yet?

RINSE & REPEAT

6:30 Thursday AM. Come for the barrier practice, stay for the heckling practice.
Thank, Dan. Was about to post.

You bring your cross bike. I'll bring barriers and cones. We'll setup in a way that allows to practice the infamous HPCX uphill barriers.

Tomorrow 6:30am. You should know how to find the location in the park.

cheers!

I'm still looking for the local! If you get this in time, text me 917-960-0884 (serves me right for not confirming ... :) )
it was dale and I this morning, we setup some of the most technical barriers ever.

Never saw Scott, if we don't hear from him in a few hours, we should consider sending a search party.

searched and searched, but didn't see y'all ... got a couple of laps in after the searching around.  Next time for sure (the next Thursday I'll be in town is Oct 29)

Have you ever been to Smorgarsburg in Prospect Park?
I haven't, but I clicked on the link, I think I rode by that area, but come to think of it, I did not ... I wrapped all around the lake in the lil pocket areas, as I thought you might have been hidden in there... will head to that local next time!

I'm gonna get some laps in this evening (starting ~7:15pm) , if interested in meeting up, shoot me a text, 917-960-0884.
Tomorrow - Thursday Nov 4th. 6:30am to 7:30ish.

You bring your cyclocross bike, I bring cones and barriers.

You will need to figure out the location.

PSA from Kasia

From a friend:
A friend of mine was attacked by a group of kids on the hill in Prospect Park up towards GAP tonight. They lined up across the road and pushed him towards the running lane, where they had set up a log. Luckily for him, he was able to bunny hop over the log, and got to the police quickly. At least a couple of the kids were caught. He’s fine, glad he had the cycling skills to evade them.

This is an especially dark spot on the road, so beware, and tell anyoneyou know who cycles in the park at night.

^That's outrageous
Just saw a similar email thread from the Parks Community Board
Tomorrow (Thurs Nov 19th). 6:30 am to 7:30 am.

You bring your cyclocross bike, I bring cones and barriers. We do drills, practice skillzz, and workout any post party hangovers. Stairs might be included.

You should know how to find the actual location.

11/25 7AM Ride around the park a few times, at winter speed (fast enough to stay warm, slow enough not to get sweaty).

would love company otherwise I'll be fine on my own.
cx post:

FDNY Training in Prospect Park:

Dear Community Committee members,

This email is to notify you that today, Thursday, December 3, and the two following Thursday’s (12/10 + 12/17), the FDNY will be conducting drills and training on-site at the LeFrak Center in Prospect Park. The training is expected to begin at 7pm, last about an hour, and will take place within the mechanical areas of the building. Some 36 uniformed firefighters in 6 trucks will be arriving and then departing the site and we therefore wanted you to know that what is happening is planned training, not an emergency.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Best,

James

Word on the street is that people are getting clotheslined in prospect park. Watch out!

Word on the street? I mean that is kind of serious, but anything to back this up like a PPA post, or is it a rumor?
I was out there this morning and saw no signs of hooliganism, with the exception of my snotting on my own arm and leg and shoe.  I will practice better aim when there's actual daylight.

sounds like it was last night.

If you scroll back far enough you'll see an almost identical story from last year - the circumstances are oddly similar - the hassidic ambulance, the rope that went from "clotheslining" to "in front of my wheel" to "on the ground" and injuries that sound pretty devastating with no hospital or crime report to follow...

I have no idea what actually happened but it's fair to say we do have real communications with the 78th, the park administration and other local teams/clubs.

None of our channels are confirming this incident.
It looks like Dan Chabanov saw it firsthand as he tweeted this:

dan chabanov @danchabanov

Saw a cyclist get clothes lined in Prospect Park by some sort of rope across the roadway. Almost got caught on it my self. New worst fear...

I saw the aftermath of a dirtbiker clotheslined by a neighbor with a fishing line when I was externing in Baltimore.  The fishing line caught him in the neck, cut through his trachea, one carotid, and halfway through his esophagus.  Guess his neighbor thought he'd teach him a lesson.
Yeah, saw that. I'm reaching out to him.
Um holy shit? And what in the actual fuck is wrong with people?
Exactly, who are these people with the ropes?

I'll be there at 6, John.  Look for me in Kissena kit.  Roll at 6:05.
Smooth laps with John this morning - nice to meet you.
Cold, dark and wet out there, a few other riders and runners.  The bad sections of road near 3rd street have been filled in and topped off so that all the cars running over those spots will tamp it down, except that cars aren't allowed on that section of road anymore.
Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to switch the race finish back to the old spot before the turn to center drive.
Nice to be outside while I can.  My trainer winked at me as I left - yes, we'll ride together soon enough.
likewise, see you around Bruce. Will be out there all winter as long as my tires don't slip out from under me
