I might get two frames from this Scott Foil warranty fiasco, so mulling a training bike build. Would need a gruppo that's BB86 friendly... suggestions/donations welcomed. 105?

John,
I've heard the new 11speed 105 is pretty nice.

@John The new 5800 series 105 is nice, but if you want to be able to interchange stuff between the two bikes then you will need to stick to 10 speed.
I have 10 speed 105 (5700 series) and it works great. To be honest it shifts about as well ultegra 6700, I found the braking was not quite as good but some aftermarket Yokozuna cables made a big improvement.
If they ship your new frame all internally wired up for Di2, then both bikes will be set up for it. In which case you might choose to make use of it and just replicate what you have (Ultegra 6770).
My final comment would be that if you intend to ride this in poor weather then, as counter intuitive as this may seem, Dura Ace holds up much better. It does not get as pitted and corroded as the lower groupsets. If you were planning on mechanical shifting them I would highly recommend 7800 Dura Ace. Those external shift cables really make a difference, and you can get all the parts on ebay pretty cheaply.

Actually only the components close to the road benefit from the extra finish that Dura Ace brings. So drive train and pedals. Shifters and Brakes you could use Ultegra 6600.
Or you could do what I do : I actually use a 5700 105 drivetrain on my winter hack. I can get the parts on ebay for pennies so when they begin I fade I just toss the part out and replace.

You may consider doing what I did with the BMC's. Build them up as identically as possible so that you can easily switch from one to the other. This is great assurance when you ride as hard as we do. The warranty replacement frame is the A bike, the carbon repair bike is the B bike, but the fit and equipment is basically the same.
Worth the extra bucks IMO. Same saddle, peddles, stem... you get the drift. The only compromise I made was going with Ultegra on the B bike (which I nearly preferred until my cranks exploded on Saturday).
It's nice to be able to drop your bike off at the shop and be patient with their schedule while not worrying about it disrupting your training and racing schedule... and personal life if you still have time for that.

Thanks fellas. Identical Would be nice but it's $450 for 105 vs $1300 for DI2, seems like 105 is a no brainer.
Oct 01, 2014 at 01:08 AM
What length cranks do you need ?
Oct 01, 2014 at 05:43 AM
You have a foil 15 right? Di2? Those frames are di2 specific, no mechanical cable stops, and afaik no way to convert it unless you get creative with a drill.

@John
I checked my parts drawer and I may have some stuff you might be interested in:
Ultegra 6770 Di2 (front and rear derailleurs & shifters)
Ultegra 6700 crankset (172.5mm 39/53)
All in great condition - we can work out a price if you need them.
I also have a couple of the external Di2 batteries and a handful of shimano little used10S chains (ultegra 6700 and DA 7900).
I only have a set of 7970 Di2 wiring - which is no use to you. You need the newer e-tube stuff. It may come pre-installed if that is an electrical only frameset. Otherwise ride can get it all in 48 hours.
Finally if you need BB bearings I have a brand new set of ceramic BB86 bearings. Made by F1. Still shrink wrapped.

@Mattie Thanks for the reminder. I was thinking of getting creative with a drill, but it would be a major project and a dicey one.
@Ian Big thanks, that'd be awesome! I'll email you. I have ultegra brakes kicking around so this would be perfect. Just need to wait 2 weeks to see if they donate the old frame.

@John no worries, I am off to Italy in a few hours anyway, back late next week. we can catch up then.

a bit random, but will try here before craigslist.
Air purifier. I got it after doing some renovations to get the left over dust under control. Worked really well. It's still in good condition and doesn't need a new filter yet. Paid 130, would like to get $50 for it.
Oct 05, 2014 at 07:28 PM
I'll take that air purifier Mike.

I have 105 shifters 5600 (external cable routing) on my commuter and finding that it's getting in the way of my handle bar bag. Anyone interested in trading 105 shifters 5700 (with internal routing) for my 5600s? Don't need anything pretty, just something that works.

Anyone have a large rudy helmet up for sale/ grabs? The retention thingy broke on mine this weekend and is being held together by tape.
Oct 08, 2014 at 04:59 PM
Call up Rudy and they'll send you a replacement for free. Also, you can yank one off any old/crappy Rudy helmet. They are interchangeable.
