Looking fowerd to floyed this week who is doing the 3/4? Some idoit dicided to stop in the cat 4-35 in the pawling mountin race crashed in somone crashed in to me boke my derailer that race sucked.
Raced my first 123 race tonight, and it was awesome!
The pace wasn't that much higher, the attacks/ sprints were from a different world however. I told myself to stay cool and only go for one of the many attacks/ bridges if the guys whose wheel I'm following goes. After two laps this happened and we got in a group of 6 that included myself, mengoni, united, Westwood and two other guy (I'm not familiar with these guys yet so it's hard to remember exactly who I was with)
We worked great together. Splendid, aside from united not pulling at all cause his team mate was in the jersey and back in the pack. Understandable. With three or so to go I guess they got bored of being in this break that had atleast one side of FBF Tarmac - gap and decided to attack one another. After that they gave up whatsoever and let us get caught. I was sure I would get a top 6 ): After we got caught I believe Dan tells me "you're super strong dude but you let us ride you like a motorcar. You shouldnt be working more then the rest of us".
Great I'm in a 123 break and I'm told I'm working too hard. How awesome!
Didn't really contest in the sprint, but I was the first u25 rider across the finish line (25th) giving me 5 points. The sprints also came and went while we were in the break and I got third once giving me 3 points.
Rene I believe crashed out (but was walking and looked alright) and Keith (from the looks of where I was) gave everyone a nice leadout on the final lap!
John leads the 3/4's sprint competition by 2 points so if you can help him out next week
yeah the sanchez lady got scared when a rider moved to close to her on right and turned left right into me causing our handle bars to hook and sending flying over the bars. Went to the hospital to check out my wrist nothing broken just my right shifter and some really bad road rash all over.
woj, congrats on your first race as a cat 3! You will find, that across categories, average speeds don't vary too much, but as you noted in your report, it is the intensity of the attacks where the major differences lie. Also the length/total time of any given attack will vary much more than an average speed.
As you race with stronger guys in the higher categories, you'll find that you'll have to race with both your head and your legs to succeed. Getting in a studly break is awesome, but getting abused by your breakaway companions is not. Unless you have teammate back in the field for whom you are trying to keep a break going as long as possible, then it is to your advantage to "feather the throttle" somewhat so that you have enough gas in the tank for the sprint, the following of attacks from break itself, or just getting back in the field and still being competitive. Again, it's a different story if you are racing as part of a team plan, but if you are racing by yourself, or just one other teammate, then it is your responsibility to give yourself your best chance to place at the end of the race.
Good job, Wojciech! Sounds like you had a great race.
Rene: I hear even CVS carries stretch-net gauze now(the fishnet looking stuff you wrap around limbs to keep dressings in place. Better than tape). Hope you heal quickly.
With Wojciech moving up to the big kids race (and doing great), I could do with a bit of help with the sprint primes tomorrow night. Points are getting tight! I could return favor with lead-out for finish, instigate breaks or just hard attacks to soften the sprinters.
John, I can commit to riding the last two races of the series with you: 8/16 and 8/23. I may even be able to do the 9th, but it's two days after Catskills, so we'll see.

Planning to ride down to FBF from GAP/PP right around 6 if anyone has decided to go out. If not I'll see John & whoever down there.
Humungous thanks to Rich, John and Stephane for the assist with the green jersey tonight. John S. on the front for a lap selflessly chasing down early breaks until he could chase no more. Rich was on the front keeping the tempo high for S1, then Stéphane took over down the back straight (check those watts!). Rich took over from him again and took it to the limit into the finish headwind. I wish I could have delivered, but got swarmed in the sprint and took 5th. S2 looking around and noticing a distinct absence of Kissena jerseys, apparently I'm too much of a whip cracker! But managed to wrangle a 1st in S2 and (I think) hold onto jersey. Much appreciate the sacrifice guys, I owe you a beer. I was cooked for the final sprint, maybe 15th.
Great to see Mark out for some Floyd. He got a bit of Mad Max in the 123—nothing like a bunch of entitled sprinters.
Props to Henry who got 4th? in the 5's in a breakaway.
All my record numbers at FBF the other day were inflated. I had cleared my computer that day, but not zeroed the torque. (I had done that on another PT on my Indoor cycle earlier that day and my poor memory made me think I had done it on my bike computer.) I realized yesterday my numbers were just too high on my way to FBF, even if I raced to get there. Bad timing, for I don't think I ever pushed so hard for 5 minutes that was not a climb. I'll have to do it again...
John, my wattage reflects my effort to chase the break (two guys) three laps before the finish (no real tactical value, but as the other guy said (JT?), it was fun! That's why I said I was not a factor. First time on this "long" course (did the short course on Thursday), I'm still just figuring out how it works.
@ Stéphane. Ahh, that was you hammering on the front—couldn't see. S2 is usually 3 to go and it's where the shit hits the fan as people attack because the field is strung out and the sprinters are tired. I seem to find myself digging really deep there just to stay on. I also, have to give it up to Carl who was looking out for me at the back.
hi all, harry here, kissena newbe. i'm the 'henry' that john m. referred to above was @ fbf last tues in cat.5 race.. turns i out finished 5th as got caught out front as lead-out for the 4 others (from the break)sprint finish. still, was a blast! pulled hard kept pace, stayed upright, my 1st flat race &4th race over-all in cat.5. pace was fast 26.6avg, new territory for me. great to meet a couple known kissena faces: jm, marcB, Stephane and a couple new ones. look forward to seeing a bit more of you all in future& will follow along on KCC forum. -h
yep, 5th out of 5. i definitely have plenty to learn re:being 'ridden hard and put up wet' ie. watching finish from behind. will be out in PPK for race tomorrow am. -h
