I don't really need to add anything more than what has been said. I think, looking how well John did both in the sprints and the final that we can take some pride in our work.

One thing. At the end, Patrick, me and John had a line set up as we were hoping to set something up for John (sorry I ran out of power in the end and couldn't do more, earlier sprints took their toll). Anyway, we were on the edge of the runway, literally brushing the grass with our spokes. We were here (on the right of the peloton) as there was a strong wind on this section of the course coming from the left. We were were doing a great job sheltering from the wind and staying together, about 8-10 wheels back with 2 km to go. Anyway, some total cnut (black guy in what I think was a black/red jersey) started shouting at John 'let me through, let me through', being very aggressive. He was trying to squeeze between a NON-EXISTENT gap on the inside to move up for his shit 275 watt sprint. Anyway, through a mixture of fatigue and him bullying us he forced his way through. I was a bit gassed at the time, trying to keep an eye on things and hopefully contribute what I had left to John's effort, so I didn't say anything at the time. In hindsight, the guy was a prick. He was too weak to get into position earlier. He was too weak to get into position by coming on the outside. He was too stupid to know where to be at that point (we'd only done the lap 9 times previously with the same side wind...). On many levels he was a shit cyclist.

Anyway, I say this for two reasons. John, if you can identify this guy, I will have words with him and Charlie at the next race before the end of the season. It was totally inappropriate, showed a total lack of skill and safety. Unfortunately, I can not give a positive ID on the goon. Secondly, what is it with these total loser Mark Cavendish wannabees who do nothing all race and then think they're owed at the end? As described, this guy was lacking on many levels (cycling isn't just about pedalling hardest for longest, needs a lot of thought). Total twat.

That sounds a lot like James Joseph, except he has a really good sprint for an old man. He's a really dangerous racer and many of us have had words with him after various races. He won't change.

Totally agree that the overall result was great. That said, there is always room for improvement...

One thing Adam & I talked about after the race that I think we should consider is dedicating specific guys to specific lead outs/roles. It is really hard to cover moves AND lead out for two premes AND do a quality lead out for the finish. By having everyone do a bit of each we're spreading ourselves too thin. In an ideal world we could leave one or two strong guys with John hiding from the wind for the entire race and give him the fully Tony Martin/Mark Renshaw bullet train lead out at the end.

^ugh - I hate that. There's a lot of that nonsense at Floyd. I know everyone was tired, but I rather than talk to Charlie I think the best thing to do in those situations is to NOT GIVE GROUND. Let this knob get pissed, bitch, whatever - he needs to learn that his behavior is not only lame and weak, but dangerous and problematic. I think most guys, if they keep getting shut out, will learn eventually that they can't keep doing that kind of stuff and get away with it - even at Floyd aka the Wild West.

James Joseph has physically shouldered me off my wheel. He knocked me two feet off my line, easily. In the heat of the moment I just bombed right back at him and took it back. With the whole peleton behind us, it was really fucking dodgy. He has no respect for the safety of others.

@ Adam. I appreciate and agree with your assessment. Unfortunately that nut-job is the infamous Burrowes brother whom I have an uneasy truce with in the sprints, I let him through just because of that.
He is fast and experienced—tied for third last night (top 5 all season). I don't quite get the psychology, he's all about the hustle: working the combines to sew up a sprint and comfortable taking risks. I think he was panicking because he thought he would ride our train to the finish, Adam faded a bit and he was boxed in. Generally I try to steer clear of this transactional crap and I could be wrong for playing his game, but fact is he can outsprint me and could make life difficult for me.

@ Jules, Ideally we just have one serious train at the end for the cash money, gives us the element of surprise and we just lead out late for the primes. To have you guys doing all those long lead-outs and chases (minus Jim) was indeed a gargantuan task. You nailed it though

we, ChristianR aka the 'Kaiser,' &i had intentions of placing in the money last night; alas, 'team' Mineola arrived w/full compliment of 5 riders along w/a couple cat3 sand baggers. plan was to go with a break(almost never happens) or make our own @Lap3 togo. so, i start upfront and go out at pace 27mph after turn1 to thwart the standard mass sprint at the end or at least not let the "Big Legs" have a leisurely ride to the line(question is, would sprint be at turn w/300m togo or in the wind w/600m togo, this IS the crucial bit if only knew?), Christian comes up&keeps a good high pace then pulls out, to check if Mineola will do any work, NO! so, i pull infront@turn2 at pace and pushed into turn3 then backed-off and let an independent push the wind past turn4. 4Laps togo, Christian and i are wheels 3&4, Mineola has come up and i say 'lets split this pack' response is 'we have other plans today' around turn1 its a big group we push a bit and then let others pull out front into turns2,3&4. 3Laps togo, cross start/finish increase pace tight into turn1 i attack &pull @30mph w/a gap of 300m look back for someone, nobody, ease a bit to determine if i can stay away alone for 2.75Laps(i/we want to be in top3 at end)...and the devil says 'not very likely, harry.' so, i keep a good pace& ahha, the Mineola train sweeps behind me fast into turn2 with Christian in tow, i jump on to second/third wheel round turn3, right, finally 'race-on!' and then phweewsh Mineiloa's leader/captian punctures, train slows &pack is back together before turn4. 2Laps togo, another big group around turn1, FDNY &a couple independents attack and pull around turn 2,3 and into wind past4. 1Lap togo, pass start/finish i hear Christian say "listen up harry' as Mineloa's breakaway man comes to the front and is instructed to go, he picks up pace, but, not enough to get away just enough for the devil to comment again 'why go out front, ride his wheel' he holds it through turn 2,3 and then Bam! @300m from turn4 here comes/there goes the pack 6/7 of sprinters, Mineloa's lead out falls away, i jump to catch a wheel as Christian zips past in full pursuit, i hope to hold on &out-last these beasts, nope! got one, thats it, Christian finished 6th, me7th w/3 Mineolas &2new independents.

so, same story different day.

Congrats on staying in green John and nice work to everyone else who helped make it happen!

I had an encounter with dangerous riding/bullying myself. On the second to last lap as things began to heat up a little in the peloton, I was fourth wheel behind a couple Mineolas. We were just crossing the finish line at the time when I notice another Mineola guy to my right who clearly wants to draft behind his team mates in front of me. Problem is I'm perfectly aligned on the Mineola wheel in front of me on the right side of the peloton, and there's no way this guy can draft his team without bullying me out of the way. So this prick pulls up along side me, and suddenly starts frantically shouting "hey, hey, watch out!" thinking that I will accomodate his idiotic decision to move up on the right halfway into the grass so that he can draft off his team. I was already fed up with all the Mineola moves by that point, that I just looked right at him and shouted back "SO GET THE F*** OFF ME THEN!" Put in his place, the prick eased off and never tried it again.

I stopped racing at FBF for among other reasons, the asshole Burrows brothers. Actually, the eldest is a reasonable guy, but his brothers...

Some of you may recall how I got bumped and squished and nearly killed by assholes from United and Mengoni and when I had words with them after the race, their explanation was, "well, that's how we race, get used to it."

I don't have the time or energy for bullshit like that.

Marc, what I understood is that one of them was implying very seriously (and very nicely) that since you were not a sprinter you shouldn't be there sprinting against them in the first place... Conclusion: you're the one to blame if something happens to you. It reminds me of some of these SUV drivers when I have the nerve to ride on their roads.

Bertucco's got a bee in his bonnet this week! If he's directing that fury into his training I think we have a dark horse contender for the club championships.
