It was 4 in the break. An acceleration with 1.5 laps to go left me unable to respond and broke us up into two groups of two. We didn't reconnect. I outs printed my guy. I'm fried. Not enough rest from 4 days off. Need to recharge batteries more.
I took 4th in the one lap ITT, and then 3rd from the bunch sprint in the circuit race.
I kinda blew a beautiful leadout from Eric. Came around a little too soon - thinking I was already to the slight downhill. Instead, I gave myself a long slog at the front and was caught by 2 guys at the line.
Brooklyn folks...if you are considering making time for Riverhead, I suggest making time for Thursday's at Rockleigh. A really great summer training series.
1st, 3rd, and both primes. 2 Kissena's in a break of 4 away most of the race. Caught with one to go by bridging group of 6 that brought another Kissena with them.
~40 dudes lined up on a beautiful Friday night. Some hard attacks and surges right from the gun. At one point, it looked like the field was split but somebody dragged it back together.
Prime bell is rung. Ragot attacks and gets a healthy gap. Vlad follows 2 chasers. No reaction from the group.
Vlad's group joins Eric after he wins the prime, and the group of 4 start pulling away from the field. The field goes slowly behind. Myles, myself, and Andy cover everything. It looks like it is game over.
Then a chase group of 7 slithers off the main group. Al B. of Mengoni fame leads the charge. I join them. I figure the break have a good 2-3 minutes. In 6-7 laps, no way we'll catch them.
Then, with 4 to go, we hear a 1 minute gap. I start disrupting the chase every so slightly more, but the gap looks to be coming down fast. With 1 to go, they are in sight. Al jumps across. Then I force Chris, the chubby faced sprinter kid closes it down the rest of the way.
The pace lulls, I tell Vlad to attack hoping that give him a shot at the long solo win. With a group of 11, there can be enough indecisiveness that a move like that can work. This time, although Vlad drove the pace really hard, he didn't get enough of a gap and just strung the group out into a lot of pain. At the base of the hill, we're all in a big group. Eric gesticulates to his right side, I take this as a signal to start his lead-out. At this point, only having been in his group for 10 seconds, I wasn't sure if he was ready to sprint after the long day in the break. I guess he was!
I jump hard. Eric comes with. As I crest the hill both calf muscles alternate full cramps. I let out a bit of a scream. It fucking hurt. Then it hurt more. Eric comes around. Then I look back - all daylight. Shit! Eric will surly win but can my wobbling cramping self hang on for 2nd? I try to charge back into his slipstream but he's a little to far gone. I mash and jump and do everything I can to make the bike go forward but I'm caught just at the line and end up 3rd. Not bad for a lead-out man.
Good day in all. The 5 of us took home $95 in cash money. Good enough to almost cover all our entry fees.
