I'm currently in negotiations with Live Update Guy with a view to them covering the race. I need to be able to follow the action!
@Mark I'll live tweet from the peloton.

You'd have to sign up first to do that. And are you sure you want to do that? I'm just going to ride you into a pothole just like last year.
We have trash talking ladies and gentlemen...."And now, let the wild rumpus start !"image

I'm in. Most likely to pin number on wrong side. It's been a while.

Also most likely to follow Rene up the hill as he soft pedals away on the parade lap.

Will there be one of those this year? It does get a wee bit confusing when Charlie's going through his race announcements and starts screaming "Guys, no parade lap this year!"

The problem with the parade lap is that EVEN IF "everyone" agrees, there's ALWAYS one dude who didn't get the memo and launches an attack.

Reg'd last night, first race ever - better late than never. Looking forward to seeing everyone.
DEFINITELY A PARADE LAP.  Or three.  I'll go ahead to make sure there are no civilians on the road.  Don't worry...

I say no parade lap. It never works - someone always attacks - and it slows us down too much in front of the other fields.

I agree with Jules. And Jules, I'll join you on the recon.
I feel an idiopathic heart, knee and back problem coming on. I say parade lap and I'd like a push up the hill please.
enjoy the race fellas.  go fast, go hard and keep 2 wheels on the ground.
I was being jokey.  Parade lap after the race is over, before we go to Kondatori.  Doing it at the start just screws up the timing for the other fields.
COMPROMISE ALERT!
No attacks until top of first hill

I'm in...knee problems and a hand full of races = confidence is high that I can win.  I can see my press clippings already...:
Before the start Saturday, Yack admitted that his club championship victory might seem unlikely to some, but he said it was the perfect course at the perfect time for him to win." “This is a lifetime of work to win this club championship,” Yack said. “I hope people appreciate everything I’ve done. It’s so complicated to get to this level. This is the hardest victory of my career so far.”
If you need to find me after the race I will be staying at the Best Western in the state of New York.
Alright I'm signed up... If this race was 400 meters I'd say you guys should worried.
+1 Ginger

In the immortal words of Lo Sceriffo, "I can hold anyone's wheel for 30 miles..."

So get ready for a wheelsuck of monster proportions, followed by a truly mediocre sprint.

Chris "Horner" Yack eh?

Also @Thierry, I don't see your name on the list...!

FWIW, there are apparently on 3 spots left for the KCC championships. Also, the bikereg site contradicts the email blast and says you can register day-of. Of course, with just 3 spots left, that may be kind of moot.

But I don't love the idea that there's that small a field limit for our club championships, on a club with 100+ riders.

@ Marc - Pre-reg is easier for everyone, especially your teammates that will be getting to Prospect Park at 5AM to volunteer to work registration. You are right, the field will fill up regardless. I'll see if Charlie can expand the field limit. It was probably based on historical numbers. 35 would be huge for us.

@ Everyone.

We can agree on a neutral lap - but not on a parade lap. The problem with the 15mph parade lap is that we will get caught by other fields and fuck the whole race up. A neutral lap can be done with shared pace making and no attacks. It depends on what everyone is up for. With a neutral lap we can all just agree to ignore Harry when he goes off the front.

I think if one (wo?)man solo'd to sweet victory from the neutral lap, it would become a KCC legend.
"Save the parade for after." Somebody slap that on a Save Ferris water tower plz?
I don't really see the point of a neutral lap. Neutral starts aren't usually celebratory or social, they're practical.

In this case its neither social or practical. However its likely to be annoying as someone flies off the front.

What's the point?
The point is that we have quite a wide range of fitness, experience, confidence and raw speed. If the club championships gains the reputation of becoming a slugfest from the gun, then it may degenerate into a handful of the strongest guys getting up early one last time to beat each other up. Weaker riders won't bother to come and eventually it will peter out and become irrelevant. The recent history of this championship event was a team time trial, where we attempted to keep as many people in the rotation as possible for as long as possible. The race format has changed, which is fine, but I can't see how a 22 mph controlled first lap is so onerous. I might even show up!

Former (?) KCC rider Jan from the Czech Republic already did this . . . twice I think . . . the true lone wolf of the club.
