Yes, she's as cute as you think. It's hard to tell in pics just how muscular pros are in the context of each other, but in person, it's clear to see her legs are in another universe of rippage.

And yes, I asked her to tow us along. She laughed. Too bad I didnt' have Leroy with me....

She did offer to ride along with us, but she was doing intervals and I'm sure she really didn't want to poke along with a bunch of noobs. But she was very nice.

Good ride today with Jeff and Aly. Ran in to John Kniesly at the GWB and he ended up riding up with us. After a flat on RIver Rd. we powered up 9W only to be caught and schooled by a super fast/fit/hot Evelyn Stevens. Very cool. Then up Ash Rd. briefly to muffins at Bunburry. Tan lines reinforced, legs wobbly, lovely day.

Did RR, and a repeat on Alpine - on my way up from the boat basin passed Rene on his way down, for some reason panicked that he was gonna catch me and hammered up the rest of the climb.

2nd time up felt stronger and faster than the first (not sure of times - comp conked out), so that was a good sign. Getting my race legs back.

Anyway, I did ye ole low road to 303/Storm Rd/Christian Herald and back. A Jordan/Zephyr guy sat on and I towed him back to the bridge. He pulled once for about 20 seconds. Who are you, Gerrans? Snap! I felt like a field trip leader. But he was nice and said thanks. I should start charging people by the mile for the fat-boy specials.

Why are cyclists retarded (using this word literally, not making fun of the developmentally disabled)? Is it so hard to roll up to your would-be locomotive and say, "Morning, would you mind if I rode your draft back to the bridge? I'm totally smoked and need to get home in a hurry."

Meh, he was nice, I didn't mind. It looked like it was going to rain and I *thought* he would help me get home quicker. But.....no. He was the caboose!

Although, you're right: it would have been prudent if he at least let me know he was there. I seriously had no idea, for probably almost 5 miles, I think. I'm not sure how long he was there, but I assume that long b/c I passed him going up that one incline coming south and then didn't notice him until the Korean restaurant when I looked down to put my bottle away and noticed his shadow. Just dangerous not to let someone know. I could have sat up to eat gels (right, Ryan?!) and I wasn't pointing any road hazards out. At least I didn't have earphones in, eh?

Yes, peoples, even if the roads are public, the right thing to do is to ask if you can sit on a group of individual that passes you on the road. Few will say no. If they do, it's either because they're doing a specific drill that you'll mess up in some fashion, or because they're jerks. In either case, you don't want to be behind them.

To explain the gel comment: Ryan told me on one of the hills at Killington, some dweeb cat 4 (of which I include myself) was riding on the front of the group decided to take both of his hands off the bars and start chugging gels, etc. This, of course, caused him to immediately lose a few mph's, since well, we're cat 4's and some of us are oblivious to how much we suck and what you shouldn't do in a pack, much less a race. Ryan told him that if he wanted to eat just go to the back, so that he didn't drop like a stone into people behind him.

To which, of course, he took great offense and started cursing. Criticism = insults to the hypersensitive lots of amateur cyclists it seems.

If you're eating, you're probably going to "slow your roll", so be conscious to keep the pace up, or, as Ryan told the guy, get the fuck to the back!

This doesn't exactly relate or belong in this thread but since you all are discussing bad bike etiquette I'll relate something that happened yesterday morning in PP. We had a decent size group, I think about 10 of us, all in Kissena jerseys, rolling along on our first lap in a two up paceline. I had just taken a turn at the front and was drifting back along the outside and I come to the last Kissena jersey and parked on on their back wheel was a guy in cut offs, a tank top, and keds with a ulock in his back pocket, and no helmet (unless you can count his fantastically wafting coif) on a track bike. No brakes. I comment out loud "that's not a great idea" and he launched into me saying that it was a free park, that we didn't own it, and he could ride where he wanted. I calmly said that he could do whatever he wanted but that it's a bad idea to ride in a paceline, unannounced, in a crowded park, on a fixed gear, with no helmet. I didn't want to argue with him because I tend to think that when we're out there in full kit taking up our fare share of the park that we shouldn't expect others to just make way for us and to think so invites a negative response to the club. However, what he was doing was dangerous not just to himself but to us. After a half minute of gentle cajoling he slid out of line but the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. Not exactly sure what the take away is here but just thought I'd tell the story.

and BTW, JP your post about not riding with a camera made me snort my coffee (with grass fed heavy cream of course, yum).

@ Jim I think you did the right thing. I'm sure there are a bunch of one-liners people can use like "this is a club ride" or "we're practicing for a race" that will get the point across. At the end of the day it just sounds like typical NYC/BKLN agro-bullsh*t; leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

Last tactic I suppose would be to drill it for a few minutes and give 'em some of the old "fat boy special" coif, keds, u-lock and all will be snotting OTB in no time
