What secret list is this? Just like Ragot to throw something up in the wrong thread(?) with no explanation of what he's done, or how he's done it. This looks like a cut-n-paste job, one that might save me a lot of time the next time I do a list.

Also yesterday there was a tree down on RR, right before the first climb.  Passable with a dismount, but kind of a buzzkill.  Hopefully cleared by now.

It was.  And yet I didn't get a PA ALERT.

Heading out around 9:30am Wednesday 24 October for a few hours on the west bank of the Hudson.

Assuming the GWB is open tomorrow, I'm up for a ride if anyone else is.

Yesterday, GWB north side was open. Took the normal Sunday route up to Rockland Lake and found lots of trees and powerlines down. Probably shouldn't have ridden underneath trees suspended only by power lines, but I'm still alive.

A couple of places were impassable, but mostly the ride survives intact. No electricity to ANY of the traffic signals I encountered. And there's a flashing sign by the bridge that says there is a 6pm curfew for pedestrians.

Unclear if that means the walkways on the bridge shut down after 6 or just the cops will be really dicky to you if you are walking around Fort Lee looking for some hot Korean Food.

South side was open even though sign said otherwise. Sweet!

River road was open and basically clear.....until the top after the first little climb next to the stone wall. I rode around the fence but it was filled with debris and not rideable without fatish tires.

So I took the switch back route (which says NO BIKES. Anybody know why? I've done it before) which drops you off where 9W starts if you head N straight from GW.

It's a fun little climb. Wish it was legal. Very euro feeling.

I've always been told the illegal climb was thus because they were concerned about rider safety descending it.  Word is people have actually gotten ticketed. The one time a cop stopped me was at the first switchback, at the end of an 80-mile ride.  He just made me ride back down and go out the other way. 

Here's the deal with the switchback aka my favorite little hill-repeat kicker:

Cops WILL stop you if they catch you on it - I've been stopped twice (which is nothing compared with all the times I've ridden it) and told to go back down.  I've often thought that if a cop DID ask me for my ID I'd play dumb and say I didn't have it (look at this ridiculous spandex suit!  you think I keep my ID on me?).  If, then, the cop threatened to take me in, I'd magically produce said ID.

Honestly, I think the bigger concern is your own safety - there are a lot of blind spots on that little climb, and while cars aren't exactly screaming up the hill, if you're riding blithely up and a car comes quickly around the corner it could be trouble.  Just be careful and aware if you do that route - both for po-po and for your own skin.

Re ID on a ride. It's my understanding that while operating a bicycle, if stopped by a police officer, you are required to provide truthful information, but are NOT required to carry an ID.

I could be wrong here, I'm sure some of the clubs lawyers and/or dudes who get stopped more than I will correct this info soon.
