As a summary, here is the bike paths information of Belgium.

There's 2 types of public bike paths in Belgium. LF is the name of cycling route in Flemish region and RAVeL is that in Walloon region.
LF stands for "Landelijke Fietsroute" (means "national cycle route"), while RAVeL stands for "Réseau Autonome des Voies Lentes" (means "autonomous network of slow ways").

Although you can't see it, everyone's right shifter is attached to their front brake caliper. International folks, international.

Is there some kind of black bike rule in effect in the UK?

Things I learned about Belgium on my ride today:
- It is entirely possible to have to ride into a headwind for your entire ride.
- Rain and serious wind will wait until you are as far away from your house as possible to start.
- As soon as you even think about complaining, you will round a corner and see an 8 year old in kit on a bike a few sizes too big for him (still tiny, though) in the drops sprinting behind his dad. htfu or stfu.

Did you bring tape for the shoes?

Is that sun?  When I was just out there it was sunny for 4 days as well.  Mass Kissena relocation project phase 1.

Shhhhh, if you visit and blab about the nice weather they don't let you come back.

 

Weather in Portland is absolutely perfect for about four months (June - September) then turns grey and rainy for the other eight.  That said, it is a cyclist's paradise.

Hello from Sunny New Zealand (rub, rub).

Hey, guys. One of the things I really miss about NYC is the tight-knit and active cycling scene. Out here in Geneva the places to ride are spectacular, but I'm only just beginning to make friends, and that is almost entirely due to the velodrome, which is the closest to Prospect Park that there is here, where one actually feels like they are part of a community. The Swiss teams and clubs come off as being cliquish (even to a Swiss guy I was talking to), and any races that I can find are few and far between. When I return for a visit in a couple weeks, I'm really looking forward to seeing you guys at the races, and hopefully an upstate ride. Until then, here's a shot of me at the local 166 meter velodrome (apologies for the old kit). This place made wintertime a much more tolerable experience.

Wow Nathan, that is a sick playground you've got there. I've only ridden something that steep once and it sure felt like a looooong way down from the top... The second thing is the cherry burns and the splinters if you bail. BADASS!

So you can only turn left now? but I bet you're REALLY good at that.

Well, I just found out that I can get a 1-day license and race Masters, so we'll find out how my right turn ability is when I visit! Fortunately, most of the Prospect and Branchbrook courses are left turns, so I should be okay. Man, this makes me happy. I'm gonna do some intervals at the velodrome tomorrow to celebrate!

Stopped off here on the way to Normandy... checked out the engraved cobbles and the local bike shop.

hanging' with my dad after a very fast 50-miler this weekend in NJ:

I'll be climbing down from my lofty Swiss mountaintop and spending a few gritty days on the other side of the pond in my old Bklyn neighborhood, between the October 14th and 20th. I'm looking forward to seeing some of you guys in the park or upstate.
