Tour of the Catskills

@Adam I was thinking two races had passed since we went with that big group (and stayed in that weird house, and won the team competition!) but I guess you're right.

Still, last year I see only two in the 4s and one in the 5s and zero in any other category. Not exactly huge representation. I remember wanting to do it but knowing I'd be alone in the 3s.

Anyway, I'm very interested this year - I've always loved this race.
I'll race it if Bertucco races it.
Can you guys please stop whining about the TT at ToC? Realize that the few seconds advantage that shmoes like me with TT rigs gain is quickly obliterated by the minutes lost to climbers in the following stages. This, without any doubt, is a climbers race. Stop bullshitting yourselves into thinking that TTing even matters in this one.
Relax your face, Vlad.  It's too pretty to frown.
Ok. I'm better now.
Im most likely in for this

I'm totally in for this race if a see (TWICE) a fat man with a 250-watt threshold not get time-cut and finish.
Apparently in 100 degree heat *i* have a 250 watt threshold
Just signed up!

This is perfect for me as I am attending a wedding in Europe on the 10th August so will have an enforced rest week the week immediately after this race.  Also, as of now, there are ~11 weeks before the event.  A perfect build period.

If anyone else is interested in doing this and would like to arrange lodging with me, please let me know within 2 weeks.  The last few days of May I will be booking my accommodation either single or with others.

Finally, I will be heading up to the course probably ~3 times before hand to recce/pre-ride.  Anyone is welcome to join me.  These will be early morning departure and back in the same day.
I'm likely but not quite ready to commit.
I'm probably gonna come just to sit around the house and eat.
i'm in for catskills.

driving back from hunter saturday, thierry and i were pretty sure that we went down devil's kitchen.  i am definitely going to want to pre-ride that as it's already playing mind tricks.

@Mark and all...for Devil's Kitchen...no need to pre-ride, just get the lowest gear you're think you are going to need, and buy one that's 3 teeth easier.

Harhar.

Seriously though, the gear you can ride a hill in recon, can be very diff't than the gear you are going to need to race it.

A lot is going to depend on where they place Devil's Kitchen in the race, but I will say, for those of you sick of big group sprints in supposed climbing races and just want to turn off the brain and out-muscle your competition...Devil's Kitchen is the climb that will do it. Of course, there's always a at least a few guys who are just as strong and maybe stronger than you, so you can't shut off the brain completely!

In the money more like it
I would like to head up to the Catskills this weekend to check out the TT and ride the first stage.  Would be great if anyone wants to do this with me and split costs.  It's a bit hard to do alone.  Don't have to be registered or planning on registering either it either; beautiful riding up there makes it worth the day trip.

Adam

I might come with.  How much does the day trip generally run?
If we make an early start, I can get the car the night before, then as long as we are economical with time I can get it back to the rental before they close, meaning a one day rental.  In my experience, I have been able to do that for $110 including gas/tolls, which, using my super smart brain, makes it 55 bucks each for two.  Another person and it gets cheaper, of course.

A little rich for my blood just to ride around for a few hours. If we can get another couple of people I'm in though.
I'd like to...but man, 6+ hours in the car is a shitty way to spend limited weekend hours. Hmmmmm
This is why being underemployed is awesome, Ryan. The weekends don't mean so much.
Just do it! That's 3.  Plenty good.  Also, from Brooklyn, its 2 and a half hours each way.
Adam,
i am in...unless i can get into the Dave Jordan race in CPk on saturday.
let you know a bit later today...otherwise count me in as3rd.

If you can wangle a car, Harry, Sunday is good.  Otherwise, it's a 2-day rental for me as my local Avis is not open Sundays for return.
@Adam,
no, won't be able to either afford of wrangle a car for Sunday, sadly, understand the problem of the 2day rental;

so, you will go Saturday, understandably.

if you still have room for me Saturday and are so inclined DO call me early (after i've either raced or had an early breakfast) i will be ready to go &will be in city at most any convenient rendevous location.
thanks,
-harry
