I'm sure this has been said before, but probably the best thing you can do the day after a hard ride or race (unless you are purposely stacking up 2 or 3 hard days in a row), is NOT to take a day off the bike. Rather, get on the bike for 45-60 minutes, spinning easy. REALLY easy, like 90-watts easy. Active recovery.

So for example after a weekend of two hard races, Monday is active recovery and Tuesday is off the bike if you really need an extra day of rest.

The Friday night skate kids tossed a skateboard in my general direction last year... running at me and hollerin' and such, I saw it coming so I slowed and steered around/through them, pedaled onward, I made no expression and no comment. It was just two of that crowd that pulled the stunt. I've rolled by that group 100 times since without incident. It may or may not be kids from the same general group, probably not.

Then there was a trio of kids last week... about 10 yrs of age, one of them makes a run at me, screaming in foolery, I had the same response --casually avoided him, non-plussed, kept riding, didn't look back.

Although I'd love to mount a paint gun in my aero-bar extensions for these moments --it's best to be cool. As for reporting to the police, I'm not sure if that would be effective... perhaps if the police hear enough people noting the behavior, they'll check take some action --look out for these offenses/offenders.

You know, it might be useful to have a Kissena etiquette guide for city-riding. We are a group of rather civilized cyclists, but even I get puffed-up at times and blow-up at pedestrians doing stupid stuff, and sometimes I think my riding could have been (could be) safer. There are so many situations and topics to cover, it would have to be a rather general guide --at least the 1st edition. Apologies if this suggestion has come-up in the past or is in discussion now on a separate thread...

And yet, people complain about cyclists. Go figure.
If you guys had more tattoos, they wouldn't fuck with you. Seriously, it was surprisingly smooth today, even at 2pm. I didn't detect the pothole sections I've heard about. There were the usual salmon and clueless swervers/runners with earbuds, but it was generally nice. Hadn't been there in 2 months. Still, going in circles is not fun. Wish it didn't take that extra 30 minutes to get over the GWB from my place.
How did I manage to be in the park at the same time as three of you and saw no one?

I too saw Nosson, but he was not kitted up.
Oh my forum! There's a comment above that seems to have melded someone else's draft with my comment as I was drafting it... I didn't write "I've seen those kids and always tried to steer clear, but that's fucked up. When I first started running and riding in the a"

Not that I don't think it's "fucked up", but I usually steer clear of those flavors of expletive in my writing (although I use them liberally at-times in speech). Anyway, I gotta say this is a fucked-up piece of forum software.
Sorry, Norm, I think that was me. I started the draft, decided to amend it, but lost my place in the html. Don't blame the software: this was user error. I fixed the post.
Ah! cool... that's right it's easy to jump right into the html snippets... I've likely done the same by mistake. I was a little jumpy from getting only 50g of carbs today. Anyhow, no worries!
but before we jump to conclusions about asshole teenagers, let's keep in mind all we know is rumor at this point. What I saw today looked like a total cluster fuck of 10 fallen riders with 2-3 injured, one seriously. They were giving police statements.

Mike
TEN fallen riders?
I dunno. it looked crazy. could have been lots of people all put their bikes down in the exact same place to care for the wounded. only looked like 2-3 hurt.
I saw one on the ground and perhaps another hurt. The rest were helping.
Ill be 2x20ing this evening around 730pm.
I was a little early and just missed the madness yesterday, any news of wtf?
going out for about 2hrs and may finish on Ashley's wheel motorpacing for 20mins :)
I'll be there at 5:30 a.m. doing a completely ridiculous workout. Join if you want to hork.
I'll be out between 5:30 and 6:00 tonight. I'm still Kissena kit-less, so if you're out I'm on an all black CAAD 10.
@ Mike: we aren't ignoring you - trying to see if we have any left in the "stockpile" while getting this season's run ready to go. Stay tuned folks.

Jules, figured we are all busy, just meant as a member not riding in gear, hard to tell, so look for bike. Sorry if that comment was taken to imply I felt I was being ignored.
No worries Mike! I didn't take it like that at all; my inbox is filling with new requests and I feel guilty I can't reply fast enough to everyone :)

(Have fun out there; don't let the teenagers too close though)
Thanks Jules! No issues out there tonight that I could tell. Hopefully that was a one time incident. I can imagine a lot of people are thinking crap, I forgot to order a kit (myself included).
Since I'm unable to race this weekend, I'm heading to the park at about 1 to do some intervals for 1 to 1.5 hrs.
I will be there at 6 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) for sprints, and again around 6:30 p.m. for some four-minute intervals. Weather permitting. Join in the pain.
I'll be there in the am. Bit of threshold, little rest. NEW shoes
Change of plans -- won't be doing sprints. Anaerobic capacity kitchen sink workout around 6:30 p.m.
Heading there now for a couple of hours.
I'll be there by 3:15 for a 2x20
Headed out around 2:30 for several 9-10 minute efforts.
Heading out around 12:15 for some four-minute intervals.
Make that 1pm.
