I am coming out to PP around 6:30 with my brother & a non-racing friend. Casual ride to spin out stale legs. No openers, just happy to be pedaling a two-wheeled machine in sunshine today instead of starring at my screen.
Hey Guys -- I was riding in the park this evening and noticed that the DOT has cut some lines into certain areas of the border zone dividing the pedestrian/runner lane and the bike lane. These incisions *appear* to be in preparation for some sort of barriers. The areas that I noticed these workings were coming into and through "the gauntlet", that is, the curve after the descent. If obstacles are placed here, it's going to be rather interesting. Also, I noticed the cuts at the top of the park, approaching the main exit... yeah, that location where runner and walkers gingerly cross without looking back, or better they look back see you coming at 19mph and keep walking as if they didn't see you (they did, but it got filtered out of cognition, since humans weren't designed to recognize oncoming bicycles as a life-threatening danger).
Anyhow, who knows the scoop on these insidious incisions?
no barriers that I know of. The are repainting the lines and adding new lines so they needed to grind off old stripes to go to the new 1 lane of car traffic pattern.
FYI: They are putting a stripped crosswalk @ GAP across the park drive. No light, just stripes. I thought this was a very bad idea, and said so, but they are going ahead with it.
Kracken Ashley and I caught up on our Ragot home work: - almost-puke-inducing out of the saddle KOM sprints. - 200+ sewing machine downhill sprints. - 2 x how dare-you-pass-me-boy-racer sprints - 1 x Cavendish chin-touching-front-wheel sprint Pleasant evening. Hope to make it out for TT in the morning.
New power record for everything down from 6 seconds to 1 second. 18.55w/kg (granted all from my first effort)
3 standing sprints from slow to almost stand still 3 seated sprints from same slow/no speed 3 standing sprints started at speed Then just when I thought I was done met John who kicked my ass for another few acid reflex inducing sprints. Tried his kamikaze downhill sewing machine spin out while my 1996 trek wobbled under me, got 180rpm out of the old girl, I cant imagine going higher.
Good to see a few brave faces out this morning. Humid, grey and eeeeerly in the morning. I could only pry myself away from my pillow by admonishing myself that openers *must* be done ahead of TOK.
@Jules Yes you were definitely doing a more intense workout than us. Good luck this weekend to you and the other Killington Killaz (I know, I know not an original name, but hey it works again).
I would have like to join the social crew, trust me... In other news, looks like the striping is just about complete. Sadly the grooves left where they tore up the old pain (at the top of the uphillhill by GAP) seem to be permanent installation art now.
Bummed to have missed every morning (and evening) this week. Hazards of work - 3 straight 9-10 p.m. nights = major suckitude. Hope to make it out tonight and tomorrow morning....
