I did my best to get the best looking ones, so if you really want one where you look like you're going to shit your pants in agony, let me know and I'll see if I can find one.

This is our family site, so I'd rather you download them and repost, rather than throwing the link out to the public.

Anybody who wants a disk of the full 4k images talk to me offline and we'll work it out - I'll dropbox them eventually but it is going to take DAYS to get them all uploaded.

Videos are massive (some are 10-15 minutes long) I'll work on getting the best onto YouTube.
@ Aly: I remember having camera trouble on day 1 - but there is enough evidence that I put the hurt on you guys to keep me happy in my forced "week + of no training"

I don't think you gave this one up without a fight!

Thanks so much Jules!
Damn Jules, that's awesome.

I have such warm fuzzy memories of that week....
("no homo")
Was one of those rides "the donut ride" route south through Redondo to Palos Verdes, up a switchback climb?

Did that in December. Bigger crowd though.
@JP I've heard of that ride but I'm not sure where it goes, but from what you're describing, I'm almost certain the answer is yes.
If by "donut ride" you mean one where the Johnston Brothers take off so fast their rear wheels spin up a cloud of rubber smoke, then yes, pretty much each day :P
We ate nutritional bars. No doughnuts (or muffins).

the picture you took is where the ride regroups at the top of the "switchbacks" climb by Marymount college palos verdes.
Gents! You missed out on a great ride out here in California yesterday.

I got a nice late start leaving culver city at 11. By 12 I was at our meetup point; waited a couple of minutes but noone showed up!

Went North on PCH until Mulholland Hwy ( Right after the state park we stopped at the first day, before Yerba Buena) It turned out to be a very civilized climb- a bit of uphill followed by some downhill. I stayed on Mulholland and did the incredible descent before the rock store. Stopped there, bought a muffin. Ate it. Bought another muffin! Ate it as well.

Did another 10 miles and turned on Stunt road, one we haven't done but was very similar to the 5k climb we did on Friday. The top had an amazing view of the pacific. I thought I would stay on that road down to the pch but somehow got onto Saddle peak, which took me to the one way Tuna Canyon road- truly epic, tight corners and some really steep sections. Weaved in and out of standstill traffic on PCH and then rode back on the beach path, sun setting behind me.

It probably wasn't as epic as todays CP race but a great ride nevertheless
@ Woj: Sounds splendid!

Yup, looks the same :)
@Wojciech: looks like there are infinite varieties to the routes in the Malibu Hills.
Yo dudes, a few of you went out to L.A earlier this year together, did you go with your bikes?

I have to go there on business for 10 days from this Sunday and while I wont always be based in L.A I should have a few opportunities to ride mornings/evenings.

My question is can anyone recommend particular routes I should check out and perhaps more importantly where I might rent a bike>?

Ill be based in Santa Monica,

Cheers
Ashley message me your email address and I'll send you the cue sheets from camp.

For bike rental maybe try Helen's Cycles, Performance, Wheel World, or Predator.

It's that time of year again…

I am excited to announce the second iteration of Kissena's (informal and not too serious) California Training Camp.

This is four days of hard work and fun in the Los Angeles area over the weekend of [TBA in late February - see below]. Last year, most guys flew in on Wednesday and left on Monday.

Some background for those who don't know: I lived in Los Angeles for seven years, so I'm closely familiar with the Santa Monica Mountains - truly some of the greatest riding in the country. I will lead some epic rides with long, solitary mountain climbs and sweeping, fast descents with glorious, shimmering ocean views.

Last year we had a blast. It was truly one of the highlights of season, and I am thrilled to be doing it again. All are welcome, however, the following notes are very important:

(1) This is an informal thing and I while I will be helpful, I will not play organizer or chaperone except to a limited extent. So, while I'm happy to make suggestions as to where to stay, maybe help find a team house, answer questions, and so on, riders will have to get themselves there, make their own arrangements, keep themselves fed, and show up at the ride jump off points at the scheduled times.

(2) All are welcome. However, everyone should know that this will be a very challenging long weekend. Lots of miles, lots of mountains, and the standard no-drop policy will not be in place except on climbs. And even then, if you are WAY behind (some of these climbs are an hour long) we may not wait.

BUT:

If you are new or not in great shape **do not be deterred**. I will create cue sheets and ride maps so no one has to worry about getting lost. And really, its not hard to find your way around with a fancy cell phone and/or a decent sense of direction. It's basically North to South on PCH, and either up a mountain or down it back towards the ocean.

Bottom line: even if you're worried about being able to stay with the group, we'll make sure you are taken care of and get you back safe and there will be lots of team hanging out and learning time.

So that's it. Let me know if you are interested so we can start to get an idea of numbers. As for dates, we are probably looking at the weekends of Feb 21-24 or Feb 28 - Mar 3. I'll post a poll.

ummm...HELL YES! and I'm bringing my bathing suit and a thin cable lock for some post-ride jump-off somewhere along the coast!
I'm in for it!
