I watched Scheldeprijs live this year, and it pretty much drove home the point that professional bike racing is nothing I would have ever wanted to do. Start watching about the 40 min mark for a truly harrowing finale. Cobbles, rain, and a huge bunch at high speed = multiple disasters! It was nerve wracking to watch on tv.

Oh snap! After looking at the comparative prices and weights, I was wondering what the main advantage of the rotors was. Similar weights, but the FSA are $400 less.... Granted, the rotors look a bit cooler. Maybe slightly lighter or stiffer or something.

Great Unique Tour of California Stage 1 POV footage. A friend of mine was in the Race Director's car, the big white SUV which comes by at :56 into the video. He wrote: "We spent the day with the best seat in the house, Jim Birrell's car. We were in front of the break, along side, in the peloton in front & back, pretty much anywhere we wanted to be. Amazing experience. I've driven a bunch in caravans, but there's nothing like being the king."

Scene of next year's training camp?

I've done most of those climbs.

The whole thing sounds like torture. I would love a February ride there next year... but beware weather can suck in the winter. Certainly won't feel like a "california" training camp.

the crazy bike carrier - made it to the summit (sans bike) but apparently was part of the recent climbing "window" that resulted in 4, possibly 5 more deaths on the mountain.
