saw it twice already, quite good. its incredible how little emotion he expresses though, it must be a british thing, I'm not sure. It's not that he's boring because he isn't but he tries so hard to be anticlimactic it seems.

That was GREAT.  Thanks for posting Adam.  I watched that tour and were convinced the Sky guys were juicing (with something that promoted weight loss, fwiw)  It's impossible to say for sure, but I really like the Wiggo depicted here, and I was glad to be reminded of how classy his leadout for Cavendish was.

i def want in on his diet regardless, he was at 4% body fat before the tour. I don't think he's a terrible communicator, it seems he abhors everything fame has brought on and that 'it's just a bicycle race' despite the fact that his wife absolutely loves it but come on...when you've worked this hard at a goal, don't tell me you don't enjoy being in the spotlight at least a little bit; and I'm certain that he does, the least he could do is smile about it a little!

It's not so British to be a poor communicator, it is very British to minimise outward emotion and try to be as modest as possible.  I think that's pretty much what he is about.  I agree, Aly, he does try very hard to be very anticlimactic.  However, interestingly most of the filming was prior to the win so I guess you have to be reserved in case you screw it up and don't win.

I don't think he's a poor communicator.  He's just not particularly comfortable in the spotlight and his testiness doesn't go down well.  I actually think he's kind of funny (maybe it's a British thing... but his raffle comments on the podium on the final stage were I thought brilliant).<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

 

The Guardian carried a three-piece series based on his new book (which I am not sure is out yet): http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2012/nov/02/bradley-wiggins-interview-tour.   Worth a read.  I walked away with the impression that he was an intelligent, humble guy… that swears a hell of a  lot.

The raffle comment was hilarious! Dry as a bone.

I have yet to watch the interview, but I recall reading an interview with Wiggins-- a number years ago--perhaps in Procycling -- I think when he was on Cofidis.  At that time, the general impression among U.K. cycling press was that he hadn't lived up to his "promise."  What I took away from it was that he at one time had a real drinking problem and perhaps suffered and continues to suffer from pretty serious depression. (From what I recall, his estranged dad [who was at one time a pro cyclist) apparently had a bad time with drugs and alcohol himself.) When I hear/see Wiggins, that's what I often think of, i.e., that despite his tremendous talent and success, he's still dealing with those issues in one way or another.  And it is that which perhaps tempers his exuberance.   [Another ill-considered amateur psychological analysis presented for your consideration.]
