Got one at InterBike.  Not terribly comfy.  Have yet to ride with it for more than a half-hour.  They claim you should be able to wear the thing ten times before it gets too gross.  I'm thinking of doing some intervals with it soon.

It makes sense to me that if it's easier to breath, then your respiratory muscles aren't working as hard to suck air in and out, but until independent data arrives I'd be on the fence.

arguably, the more oxygen you're able to take in, the more power you will have.  And you'd notice a difference between breathing through a 1cm straw and a 2cm straw.  

Not suggesting it makes a difference, but the idea is fairly simple.

Actually the argument would be "the more oxygen you are able to metabolize" not push into your lungs.
Put your hand up if you ever stopped pedalling hard because you weren't able to metabolize enough oxygen.

Jules, if your diaphragm muscles don't have to work as hard to push/pull air then wouldn't you conserve energy? The position of your head, the condition of your septum, chest vs belly breathing, how relaxed you are, all contributors... Team Sky do the cotton wool soaked in Olbas before every TT. I'm inclined to believe they did some homework on that. 

Also this car is obvs faster.

Seems that inhaled air has ~21% oxygen, versus ~16% in exhaled air.  Even **if** under duress during hard exercise you became an oxygen sponge and actually you took up 2x even 3x as much oxygen, meaning that your exhaled air oxygen percentage fell to maybe 11 or 5% oxygen by volume, that still means that you are 'wasting' that 5% volume of inhaled gas which is tasty, useful oxygen, by spitting it back out.

Perhaps the argument is that the percentage never changes.  After a shallow breath and a deep breath, perhaps you always end up taking in that 5-6% oxygen volume, ergo the larger your breath the more oxygen you can take up?  So, bull ring allows easer breathing and perhaps more oxygen that way?

In either case- must see data before I believe at all.  Might be placebo, or part of the routine of getting in the zone, which is particularly apt for TTs.
FWIW - I bought some. Might have some extras for the next group ride.

I'm with Adam. It's not how much o2 you can get into your lungs (or even your blood) it's how much/fast you can metabolize it.
