It's not lighter when built up.  Seat post weighs more than frame tubes.
I also think that people like the look of post sticking out.
One of the reasons ONCE liked it was team boss Saiz liked having fewer sizes--his Liberty Seguros team was on BH frames, and everyone had the same size.

I know the aesthetics of bikes have changed, but the older components are just so elegant and beautiful compared to the super techy look of the newer stuff.  Like how campy's original ergopower shifters tried to emulate the older brake levers.

Sorry, Yacks, I love me some vintage stuff, but old aluminum frames were basically the awkward braces wearing stage of frame design.  Old thin tubed steel and newer carbon both beat it out in the looks department.

When I ride sand, I look exactly like those dudes!! I like that Paul Herygers can still ride it like it is nothing, and that either of those two guys, if they dedicated some real time, would probably kill it.
