""This is one of the very rare instances in which we would advise against regular exercise."

#FML
DISlike.  Need a kickstarter for one of these...

So, you doctoring people.  WTF is this?  It's been almost 3 weeks since I was run-over (under?).  Mostly, the ankle is still swollen and has developed a loud "clicking" noise sometimes.  But it's painless.  And the broken scapula piece sticking up on my shoulder/back is only painful if I touch it, sleep on it, or lift my arm over my head.

This is also mainly painless..... Unless I touch it!  It's also very, very hard and warm to the touch.  Almost like a bad insect/spider bite.

Safe to ride on?  I can get my foot in a cycling shoe, so I was planning on cruising slow at Prospect tomorrow, midday after the massive Tour stage (should be a doozy).

Froome go bonk again please.

Ok it doesn't look that bad in the pic, but it's raised and like I said, hard/warm/painful-to-touch.  Otherwise I don't notice it.

Just a massive vein that exploded?  Bone bruise infection?
@Jeff Owens-  i know nothing about medicine, but I do know (1) that the leg looks nicely groomed, and (2) that the thing looks hurty
@Jeff Owens - not sure what it is, but it looks similar to what my friend's leg looked like after he got bit by a botfly....(this is not what you have, because, brooklyn ain't zambia).

in short...this resulted in botfly larvae in his arm: (http://www.cracked.com/article_15816_the-5-most-horrifying-bugs-in-world.html  scroll down to read, but, DO NOT click the embedded video link if you have a weak stomach.)
Ok cool. So while I got completely demolished by a car at high speed and have relatively minor injures, now I either have Froome blood snail disease, flesh eating bacteria, or a conjoined twin trying to birth him/herself.

Thanks, duders!
Owens,
It reminds me of the massive bruise I got on my leg when I was hit by that cab a few summers ago.  Eventually, it went away.  I believe the bruise was from my leg hitting my top tube.

Of course, I'm not a doctor.

Did somebody say "snail?"  I can't get enough of posting this video.

ICE it.
Take a pen and draw a line around the border.  If it's bigger in the morning you should be worried about cellulitis, which is BAD
@ Owens Wouldn't hurt to neosporin it every couple of hours (repeat application makes it work)
You get x-rays? Not a fracture right?
Alright this shit it getting more red.  Go back to the same ER?

Why am I so cursed?  Did I dig up a mummy in a past life I still gotta pay for?
Fuck this leg.
Which ER? Stay away from Methodist. But def get that thing looked at - it's an angry mofo. Don't talk to me about being cursed :(
I've been to Methodist in da Slope 3 times and have always found it good!

However, I just found a guardian angel that helped me out....
You are probably allergic to black markers.

Seriously, don't you have a GP or someone to look at you without going to the ER?
Did you break the skin when you crashed?

Better.  I have smart friends with like, degrees and stuff and they know other smart people. Winning.

Lucky you!  I busted my schnoz playing hoops about 12 years ago and went there - sat waiting to see someone for 7 hours before they sent me home, having not made it past triage.  The only bonus was getting hit on, while still covered in my own blood, by a 23-year-old girl suffering anxiety from her recent multiple gunshot wounds.  Stay classy, Brooklyn!
This reminds me: for all you bikey-type-racers out there, get your tetanus shots updated.  Like, now.  Especially you crossers'.  After I got power-hooked into the fences on the second day of Providence last year by some d-bag in a blue and white kit (the worst cross crash I've had), I developed some really weird full body aches and pains.  Most alarmingly, my jaw started to get really stiff.  I looked into it, and the rest of my symptoms weren't far off from the first stages of tetanus either.  And it had been at least a decade since my last tetanus shot.  PANIC!!  More research revealed that tetanus is rare these days, but if there were a perfect recipe for contracting it, it would be a bike crash.  Road rash and cuts, picked up out in the wilderness over large areas of skin = massively increased area ripe for infection.  Multiply with muddy grassy field or forest (I can practically smell the horse poop at Nittany), and that's about as tetanus-y as it gets.

Jeff, this doesn't at all sound like what you have, but it reminded me of my scare last fall.

And if this doesn't motivate people to get some shots, just look up the long term effects of tetanus.
Dude, go to a doctor.  Spreading inflamation tends to spread, and antibiotics will be easier sooner rather than later.  Also, go now - if only because all the commute accident victims are going to flood the ER in a couple of hours.
Most alarmingly, my jaw started to get really stiff.
Sheeeeeeit.  That's some systemic shit there.
Cue SHAMELESS PLUG for the Park Slope Urgent Care...

Kissena's "Team Physician" works there when she isn't managing mass-casualty pileups at Battenkill (see below)

Sorry to take away all the focus on you Owens...but I did my ankle in off the bike. I was bouldering at Brooklyn Boulders and I fell off the wall. I realized I wasn't going to keep climbing, but I still rode my bike home and I wrapped my ankle and started icing it. The swelling got disgusting, like I was smuggling a lemon in my sock, so I went to (Jules shameless plug here), and got an x-ray. Apparently I broke my ankle and I now have 4-6 weeks of crutches, leg elevation and baths in my future.

2013 cross season looks dubious...I doubt physical therapy and banging around a CX course are complimentary.

Ugh Dan! Sorry to hear. Luckily you can still belay with a gimp foot...
Damn, that's bad news and good for you for going to get it checked on.  I probably would have waited far too long.
Heal up, and everyone take warning that cyclists should not attempt any other sport or activity. It can really interfere with cycling.

@Dan- I'm really sorry to hear that.  (By the way did they tell you to apply that cat to the affected area every ten minutes or so or do you just have it around for general companionship purposes?)

Dude... climbing isn't a sport... it is life...

Dan - that sucks. You were missed this weekend and we wondered where you were. This explains it. Heal up.
Is Shirley jealous?
