@Neilx No she's not prescription, but she decided I needed my crotch warmed on a 85 degree day. I wasn't exactly moving very fast either.

@eragot Shirley is on the other side so as long as you don't tell her, I think I am ok!
Due to injuries this will also be my 3rd season in a row without cx. We can just drink all the beer instead.

Let us know if you need anything, cap'n Dan.
I'm in the middle of a long course of antibiotics (doxycycline). Can anyone validate how miserable and weak I feel (as in barely able to maintain tempo power levels)? I don't think the bacteria are the issue (Borrelia burgdorferi) because I otherwise feel fine.I know that the pros are constantly making excuses about not being able to race because of antibiotics, but wasn't really expecting to have a problem.
WEIRD.  I was just reading about Borrelia Burgdorferi Goodmanella yesterday at Bellevue when we were dispensing doxycycline to a patient.  At least you haven't been in the hospital for a month!

I just finished my MRSA antibiotics and rode at prospect for the first time in 5 weeks yesterday.  I was also very slow and miserable.  Then again I'm always slow and miserable (S&M).

We can have an S&M ride this weekend if you want.  Inappropriate...

Ah ha. It was you. Luka yelled "Kissena". I looked up from our position near the lake. Large Kissena rider. 430 or so. White bike is all I could tell. I asked Luka if the bar tape was pink. He didn't know. Only two choices Clifford or Owens. I told Luka that it was probably Owens. I didn't get a chance to wait for a lap and be vigilant. Turns out I was right. Kissena-daar in operation.

@dstokes-I can only validate anecdotally that I too feel weak and definitely get depressed during a long course of antibiotics.  No idea what the mechanism is.
@dstokes--Cipro wrecked me for as long as I was taking it.  I got progressively worse each day on the bike and more tired each time I got off the bike.  But I guess pissing blood was worse.
SMOJ! I hereby officially deem 2013 to be Kissena's year of the sick and injured. Also mesmerizing animated gifs.image
Anyone know of an orthopedist that does ankles and takes no-fault?

Thanks
I think CX is not for me.  My shoulder injury from a dooring accident in 2010 reared it's ugly head after Saturday's clinic.  The accident caused the soft tissue inside the socket to tear off the bone (about 80% loose) and according to my surgeon will never reattach without pins.  Too much scar tissue built up so he cleaned it out first and told me to see how I felt after physical therapy.  Turned out it was liveable and so we opted not to go through more surgery.  For every day life, it's mostly fine outside of the occasional "catch" where I have to re-rotate my shoulder so it moves freely again and doesn't hurt.  After Saturday's clinic I felt my shoulder catching more often and hurting during usual activities, like washing my hair in the shower.  It's gotten better since a few days ago, but I don't want to risk aggravating it any more and having to go under the knife again.
Solution. Don't wash your hair. All better now. Time for CX again.

Feel better.
Sounds like you'll just have to develop your heckling skillz... or sign up for the LAPD

No way. Yang has beautiful hair that demands constant attention.

I don't know, Yang. Washing your hair is a pretty weak excuse. Now, if you experienced the pain while shaving your legs, that'd be another story.
@Adam, I experience no pain when shaving my legs, only OCD bliss...
So last Monday while returning from Cunningham with Phil, I took a little spill outside the US Open when I hit a curb I didn't see that was submerged in a pond sized puddle. I banged the elbow and scraped it under the water. Although I kept the wounds really clean and put bacitracin on it 3 times a day everyday,  this is what I woke up to on Sunday morning. I'm saw the doctor yesterday and am now on a ten day run of clindamycin and sulfamethoxazole. The swelling is down to about 10 perecent of where it was. I don't have a fever.  I feel fine (no antibio side effects)and am avoiding alcohol, caffeine etc.

Can I still train while on the antibiotics? I was thinking of waiting a day or two till the remaining swelling was gone and starting up again.
Yes, you should train. I felt like crap while on a recent dose of antibiotics, but continued to ride in a diminished capacity. I don't think everyone feels this way, but don't be upset if you cannot maintain your usual power output.  I don't think it is going to hinder the healing process, which now under the control of your pharmacist.

It's that time of year - go get a flu shot.  @Owens will bring you a bandaid with a bear on it.

there's another player (besides Markel) in the bike insurance market: www.velosurance.com

i requested a quote.  insurance newbies should note they sell different types of insurance: bicycle (your frame breaks), medical (you break too), and personal liability (you break someone else).  those who have health insurance or homeowners likely have the last two already.

you can buy each separately, but, confusingly, the quote via their website doesn't really break them down.  the agent told me the bike only was $199/year for my CAAD10, which when you add up every little piece on it that i ever bought (derailleur, chains, wheels, etc) is valued at about $2,600.  that is with a $300 deductible (lame, but you can pay more to lower it).

i don't think i'll buy it right now, but it's nice to know i can pay $200/year to have the option of replacing my bike (minus the deductible; also they will just repair if it costs less than replacing) if it gets totaled by something that's my fault or the fault of someone who refuses/cannot pay me.
Was off the bike for nearly a month and been getting back into riding, increasingly hard, over the last 2 weeks. Did 25 miles at tempo on Friday, heading into NJ, a faaast 50 miler yesterday AM, and then 25 miles home-- and my right achilles is killing me.  damn.

Am hoping to be in good condition for the last 2 graveyard FBF races and finally get some racing in this year-- any suggestions beyond rest, ibuprofen, and tiger balm?
ICE. 15-20 min two or three times a day and certainly after any exercise.
Before and after pictures of my clavicle. Just thought I'd share.

Yikes!  How are the ribs?

It's hard to say. By the end of the day my back is killing me. I assume it's the ribs but it could be the strain of the sling. I did get the stitches out yesterday so I'm free to hop on the trainer now. Just need to muster the early morning motivation.

No rush; CX season has barely begun.
Rumor had it that Sir @Vlad the Destroyer was on two wheels last week... is it true?

Anyone ever torn their ATFL (anterior talofibular ligament)?

Finally got an MRI as the pain from being run over 3 months ago was lingering.  Seeing a specialist next week but sounds like surgery.

Fun times!

@Jeff Owens. Sorry to hear that. Ugh.
