Thumbs up! Looking forward to reading the reports!mperlberg said:Ryan and Joe both in the top 10.Ryan snatched up a few KOM points as well.
Andy won the first sprint
Jim got 3rd in the second sprint
Tito narrowly missed some KOM points
Race finished in a field sprint. I got 9th (dick spot).
not cool. especially since JP missed the start and did the right thing by sitting it out.Little story: Came across Diasloski as I was rolling slowly to the start/finish on my flat. He said he thought the race started at 6:30 so he missed the whistle. He then jumped in on the third lap, took some green jersey points, got in the winning break, took money.
Any 5s want to do some group drills and coordinate for next week?
my guess is that it is a moot point since nobody protested at the race. I agree that he knows better.Jeff Owens said:Dioslaski should be suspended for the rest of the series. That dude knows better. He's been doing this a long time.
My report:
Before the race Mike told me and Joe that he thought we should look for early moves to try to eat up KOM points. So, that's what we did. After Eric drug me to the front early in the first lap, I took turns with Joe covering just about everything. Then, after the downhill on lap 3 (or was it 2?), with a few guys from the right teams lingering up the road I saw Dioslaski start to go across and I figured that move was probably one to be in.
Next think you know I'm suffering in the break with (sorry, I still don't know names in the 123 field) Mengoni guy, AXA guy, 2 Somervilles, Dioslaski, and that dude Carl who ended up winning. I'm pretty sure I was the only Cat 3.
The first few laps of the break were hard, hard, hard for me and I suffered mightily (although I still managed to snatch 2nd in the first KOM sprint). Hearing calls like "9 laps to go" when I was already suffering that bad made me go "uh-oh." At some point as we came across start/finish I heard JP call out "you can't get dropped from this Ryan." That helped as it stuck in my head. And eventually I looked around and realized others were suffering too, in fact some looked worse than me. That gave me a little confidence, and once we were well established it slowed down a bit and I actually felt pretty good.
I tried to contest the 2nd KOM sprint but it was hard with Somerville having a lead out man, and I was on the front too soon. Got 4th out of the points.
I did my share of work throughout. Not the most, but certainly not least. Somerville and Mengoni guy were annoying the whole race. Especially Mengoni guy. Total wheel sucker. So last lap I just started leaving him in the wind. He bitched at me to close down a gap and I just said "exactly." I sat on his wheel for most of the lap assuming he wouldn't be willing to let the race get away from him so close to the end, and assuming that he'd be a good wheel at the end.
I ended up getting swarmed in the sprint (my legs felt like they were about to cramp as I sprinted) but I hung on to beat one guy - so I didn't actually get last out of the break!
Many thanks to the Kissenas behind me helping us stay away. Sorry I couldn't buy coffee, the Dioslaski drama made the payout take ages and I didn't get to Konditori until everyone had already coffeed up.
However, I did get to watch Scott savory suffer like a dog every time up the hill. He looked as bad as Jeff Gottesman who is quite a bit older. Kinda funny.
But I completely disagree (except for the pretty smile part ;-). 2-3 laps may not sound like a ton, but it adds up, especially in a break situation.
Whoever took laps out to fix a flat last year in a park race (FBF is generally ok, no?) should have been called out and prevented from reentering. And the mechanical situation was punished (I'd also argue this forum is rather public and often bleeds into the nyvelocity boards. It's a small community).
And sure, it's just a park race. But you can say that about almost any amateur, or even professional event. At a certain point you have to have respect for the other racers and efforts people like Charlie put in to make it legitimate.
One last thing: calling out a fellow rider who cheated doesn't mark everyone on his/her club as shameless. Nor does it put forth the idea that Kissenas are perfect. Poor acts need to acknowledged for the simple fact they shouldn't be tolerated.
I mean, what if the next park race, Ragot just decides to start on lap 4 or 5. Is that ok? Is the limit 2 or 3? If so, wouldn't everyone just start showing up late and saving their legs those extra 10 miles?
Not only did the one Kissena, confess to the forum/club, he also confessed and apologized to Charlie personally. And, if memory serves he also got suspended/resigned from the management team of the club that year too.
So, I'm going to say punishment served.
There was also another related, yet unrelated incident that got really ugly, really fast, and I can't remember if I was told some of that stuff in confidence, so I'm going to keep my mouth shut. Except to say that what happened today with Dislowski is NOT EVEN IN THE SAME LEAGUE as the errors in judgement made by aforementioned Kissena rider. But who knows, maybe he'll have a change in heart, confess his sins next week and return his prize money?
p.s. the whole, "it's just a park race" crack just drives me nuts on so many levels...but I'm too tired to rant about that too.
Apparently I got the first green jersey sprint. Jim did a great job getting me up there, but one more guy would have made a world of difference. Its my fault for not communicating my intentions to get the green until the last minute. I ended up sprinting from much further than 200 meters, pretty much died before the line but threw my bike and must have just gotten it... Right after the sprint i attempted hopping back on, some where half way up the hill i vomited up my breakfast,(I have a bad stomach and really need to make sure i eat three hours before i race) and didn't have anything left to close the gap that opened.
Oh well.
now I really want that green jersey!
