1st goal of KCC cat4's should be to defend Green Sprint Jersey(andy daSilva), we need a plan: who? what? when? do we have a road captain?
i can either, work for a KOM or a Sprint, will likely be toast at end of race, or i can hold back for a late attack.

Pro 1/2/3s. I'm probably not going to be racing on Saturday, but you guys should be talking about how you are going to approach the race. As many of you know, sometimes park races can be downright pokey.
But with Foundation's traveling team hot off of Speedweek NRC crits where they were going blow-to-blow with United Healthcare and other pros, they could be having a "bad day" on Saturday and still be flying by local standards.
Mengoni is bringing some guns to the party too, Axis has Erin Korff, Colavita's Durso, and well, you get the picture. It's going to be a hard race.
And with rain looking likely, I think a breakaway just may win this thing. Kissena is sending the biggest team by a fair amount, and we've got some legit horsepower in there too. You must stay up front though, especially important with the bad weather.
Anyway, carry on gents, discuss amongst yourselves.
Fully realizing no one asked me...feel free to mentally give me the finger (but not in real life please. I'm sensitive) but just in case, I wanted to share my own thoughts...
Harry's roll/role call is a good start. You might consider breaking down the group into general categories of racers. Again, no need to micro-manage this down to who exactly is going to do what and when, but some role-playing can't hurt.
- Rainy day = higher chance of breakaway success (also crashes, but let's not go there)
- Staying in top 30 guys = higher chance of being there when you need to be there. YOU FEEL ME BRUHTHA'S!?
- Protect your Sprinters = higher chance they can get it done.
Some of you guys I know better than others, but based on what I've seen and/or read in recent race reports, and preferences expressed on this thread, I had this idea...
Sprinters and wing-men: McKay, DaSilva, Nelson, Yacks, Tillman, HEB
Breakaway dudes: White, Owens, Roazen, Condon
Rolleurs: Nelson, Owens, HEB, Roazen, Maronilla (guys who will make sure the pack doesn't dawdle and/or principle chasers should a break get away without a Kissena in it)
Enforcers: HEB, Owens, Maronilla, Yacks (guys who aren't afraid to attack with fury)
Leadouts and sweepers: Whoever is around the dude going for the sprint!
Finally, if it comes down to a bunch sprint for 1st, and you happen to see White bringing McKay or another sprinter to the front, you jump on that action and take your pulls, stay on target and watch the magic happen.
Okay, sorry...me again. I had a Dr. Pepper today and am totally jacked up and not tired. This time I'm back for the 1/2/3 guys.
Looking at the 103-rider start list again, the weather, the horsepower...I really feel like this is going to end up in a breakaway. There's probably a million scenarios, but it's hard not to imagine it happening around one of the intermediate sprints.
This may or may not be relevant, but of the top 10 in the overall standings only 5th (Stalin Quiterio), 7th (Scott Gregoire), 8th (Juan Carlos), 9th (Lynn Murray) are registered to race.
This IS relevant...our own Ryan Johnston appears to be sitting in 14th with 4 pts, which is not all that far off of top 10. Especially if he scores in the overall with so many top point getters apparently will be DNS-ers.
Okay, back to scenarios...maybe Axis' Korff is going to go for KOM points (he showed that he's got some serious watts to get and hold his gap last week in the fast Master's race), lights it up, takes the points, stays out there, cue bridge up efforts from Bezdek or Murphy from Foundation.
Or maybe Dioslaki sees the rain, knows he wants to stay out in front of any sprinting madness and launches his typical 1st lap attack up the hill. Normally this doesn't work but, the if the right people bridge up, that's the race.
Mengoni's roster filled out in the last few minutes before online reg. closed. You should be aware that if you are in a break with Pollo or Pollo Jr., THEY WILL NOT PULL THROUGH WITH ANYTHING. In fact they will ride the break so "poorly" when you see Pollo Jr. Placing top 20 in a NRC crit in just a few weeks, you will wonder...but that's how he rides. But if you've got their teammates, Barouh, Breech and Borrnow back in the field, you can be sure they are blocking. So that's something, at least.
And then there's Stalin Quitero...he's infamous for being a great breakaway rider...hahahahaaaa....owhh...
So, if you get in a break, pull through, watch the other guys, and make your own judgement as to how hard for you yourself to work. Don't obsess over passengers or other dingle-berries in your breakaway, but do include them in your "race-winning" calculations.
It's not going to hurt to let other breakaway friendly teams that you are interested in a break. It might not help, but it certainly isn't going to hurt. Maybe, for example, instead of chasing JP down the second he gets a gap on the field. They'll sit back, let a gap develop then send Breech to bridge.
If there is a break, and Kissena isn't represented, then you've got a decision to make. WS United has one of the field's strongest sprinters. It's going to be their job to bring the break back...but maybe Kissena sends a couple of their rolleurs up to help. BUT, our strong breakaway guys HAVE TO BE READY FOR BRIDGE-UP ATTEMPTS by other strong riders.
Finally, taking a cue from what JP was saying in reference to last week's Master's race, we need enough guys at the front, or close enough to counter attack when our guys are getting pulled back from their efforts. The overall speed of the race, the weather conditions may make it hard for guys to get away period, but you still want to give yourself your best opportunity to podium. And you can't be all that helpful to the team from buried in the middle of a 110-rider field.

BUT, our strong breakaway guys HAVE TO BE READY FOR BRIDGE-UP ATTEMPTS by other strong riders.- If a strong man breakaway gets away without us we're basically fucked. United is not strong enough to be a big help, essentially we'd have to do the work on our own. The moral of the story is that we should always be looking for orange helmets up front and making sure we never slide too far back. We've been getting better at this as a team - we need to perfect it. And then remember, if you get into the break the weight is now on your shoulders, so do whatever you need to do to hang in.
Apart from staying at the front which we're getting pretty good at. I'd like to give Ryan a shot at some kom points. But more importantly I'd like to lead mike and Ryan up the hill. So that mike and Ryan can keep going.
This can give us a shot at kom points but also two in a break. The idea isn't to sprint so much as to separate from the pack as if we are, but then keep the pressure on. I have a picture hanging around my house of us doing that for mike. Myles is making a cell phone call in the background...
One thing to keep in mind, try setting up on the Right side of the field for the Sprints, and on the Left for the KOM. This usually gives you open lanes to move up cleanly for the respective targets. Also have a clear direction you are coming off the front from. This saves your guy from having to come around as you're slowing down. So if you're pulling off, say what direction you're going in, maybe even point with an elbow, just communicate.
That admonition to communicate also goes for riders all throughout the line. communicate up the line, that you're on your guy's wheel (or not), that way they can focus on the wheel in front rather than trying to look back.
Only me, Aaron, and Rick who are pre regged. I'm assuming most others are either doing Hunter or sitting out this weekend.
Even though there's only 3 of us, let's try for the same thing as last week. When the pace picks up during the bell lap - probably around downhill - try to move up safely on the right side and we'll attempt to organize for a short leadout/sprint. Aaron, my goal this week is to try to lead you out.
I would keep an eye out for Foundation since they have last weeks 2nd place Charles Altcheck riding with a few guys. Otherwise I think most people are doing Hunter so the big guns from Ride Brooklyn aren't racing. Lots of unattached riders so stay clear of any sketchy dudes!
Also, I like to goal of chasing KOM points because it gives us a chance to springboard away. I think I should shepherd Ryan and allow JP and Mike to hunt for the breaks off of KOM sprints.

Yeah...probably. LOL.vlad said:123s, if it stays together, expect Foundation to line it up and drive it for Euris or Neil. Everyone will be looking for them at the end. We may want to spike it earlier because they're probably faster than us.
FYI looking wet out there late in the evening into tomorrow morning. Why couldn't we race today instead...
